Windows 8 RTM 90day TRIAL .iso out!

Recommended Posts

Can anyone think of a logical reason that Microsoft would have to make it not upgradable to the "full" version once it's released? Kind of a crappy move.

It's a trial for businesses and is an Enterprise SKU, not Pro or just plain 8. So in order to make it upgradable you'd have to have an Enterprise key.

Now if this was a Pro trial version I could somewhat see the point, but would still be ok with it being locked down like this to help avoid a bit of piracy.

If you have access to the retail disc from another purchase, you can install that as a trail, you just can't go through the installer, you need to manually extract the install.wim and create the boot records, that would allow you to upgrade to a full version should you choose.

EDIT: That's also probably limited to 30 days.

I'm sorry for bumping such a old thread though I didn't really feel like opening a new one, well I wanted to give Windows 8 another try with the recent mods out but I noticed that the Evaluation download doesn't work anymore. It always loops me to the Server 2012 Evaluation page which doesn't work either :( Is it just me or did Microsoft remove the download? :/

Thanks xendrome but that's exactly the site that fails for me, no matter if I pick x86 or x64 I get taken to the Live Login screen and after I login it asks for my data and as soon as I click continue I'm at the Server 2012 page. Oh well googling the filename lead me to a direct link on Microsofts servers so I hope it's okay if I just use that >.< I mean it's hosted by Microsoft and it's only a free Evaluation so eh...

I just tried it Sky and the download starts just fine for me

have you tried a different browser?

Well that's interesting o.o I tried it with Firefox 19 and whatever version of Chrome I have and both looped me :/ Oh well if anything that makes me feel less bad about using the direct-link because that means that it's still fine to download it and only the re-direct is broken for me, thanks :p

Can this dual boot with Windows 7 like the Consumer Preview, and Release Preview did? I'd hate to hose my Windows 7 install just for an evaluation. My guess it simply cripples Windows one that period is over, and you simply have to reinstall Windows 8 while being able to keep 7.

this ?

The link works fine with chrome. ( At least here :p )

Well that's just my luck! :p

this ?

I remember reading somewhere it can dual-boot but I'm not sure I don't mix it up with the RP in my brain so better look around first :/ I will only use it in a dedicated VM^^

    • Google DeepMind published a document on June 18, 2026, that may be the most consequential admission yet from a frontier AI lab: alignment training alone cannot guarantee that AI agents will remain under human control, so structural containment must be built before more capable models arrive.............. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/318758/20260620/google-deepmind-ai-control-roadmap-when-alignment-fails-defense-depth-takes-over.htm
    • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
    • I'd basically agree. The only point I would add is to be careful not to treat science as a religion, complete with priests, dogma, and blasphemy. Humans are highly susceptible to religious-oriented ways of thinking since it aids in forming communities of like-minded people. The problem is that when this happens, nobody wants to be ostracized from the group by saying that a deeply-held idea is wrong. Science and "peer review" are not immune to this behavior, unfortunately. In the end, finding truth is our own responsibility and we can't depend on others to hand it to us. Skepticism is key, along with curiosity and the willingness to critically evaluate and consider ideas both new and old.
