An open letter to *some* members regarding Jokes forum

Recommended Posts

I guess some people are jealous that others are happy... so they create "an issue that needs to be fixed" as in... they find it an "issue" when people are happier then they are... so they feel they have to resort to this to make themselves happier in this way rather then taking the high road and improving themselves.... weaklings.

The thing is, those doing the complaining could be posting jokes to show us dullards how it is done. Instead, they sit back and criticize those who try to post.

like I say.... if you think that person A's stuff sucks I'd like to see you do better!

Post jokes? I don't have time for that. I'm too busy attempting to decipher these puzzling unfunny jokes :p

Simple solution, give us the option to pick what forums are included in the minispy/forum posts area on the homepage..

People that don't care about social aspects, or news, etc, can just hide those areas of the sites.. People who do, can leave them included..

The problem isn't the posting in the forums. It's creating a thread like:

"Why did fred eat the apple?" with the content

"because he didn't have a potato"

it's posting for the hell of posting, it's not funny, its not contributing to the community. Those kind of posts are best kept to PM. While I am okay with the facepalm jokes that Turion and Warwagon post (for the most cases) it's the stupid posts that I dislike. The posts that contribute nothing other than to increase a post count, one line of random words, or an inside joke aren't needed. If you are actually providing something, a new avenue that's one thing, but to spam the board with nonsense makes the forums look bad.

That's just my thoughts though.

A lot of times the comments are funnier than the joke.

That much is certainly true, I sometimes get a good chuckle out of the comments that get posted after the absolutely shocking jokes i've seen.

You know, everyone has a different funny bone. What makes one laugh may not make others laugh. Planet Bob? Come on. I loved the series, but that part was not even close to being funny. So who gets to determine what's funny and what's not? I'm not saying I don't agree with certain things, because I do. The things that determine a ban shouldn't include a bad joke. A joke that is titled "Dog" and then answered with "Cat", isn't ban worthy, but it is worthy of a warning.

These warnings do pile up and when they reach the number for banning, then ban them.

But to ban for what others consider tasteless or unfunny, not cool.

Maybe we could Vote on a Joke -- after 10 dislike votes, the joke is automatically Deleted PM'd to the OP on the hour every hour for a week. ;)

Yes, I'm ahead of my time.

Fixed that for ya ;) :p

Wait, is this really pointed at Warwagon? So what if some members don't find his jokes funny, I don't but I wouldn't ban him from posting them. Jeez.

No, it's not pointed at warwagon, his jokes are jokes, it's pointed at the copycat(s) who are trying to be warwagon and failing

No, not even that I hope.

I think it's merely about posting spam.

Just spam literally.

As in stuff that doesn't even qualify as joke - neither good or bad or whatever.

Just as random bla bla trying to either derail the subforum, raising the post count or seeing how the community reacts.

Now, any joke, good or bad or even horrible, I think should stay the flip in there and we can actually just apply the usual "No Spam" rule.

I don't see how this needs such a big announcement, as I think we can just enforce the "No spam" rule and deal with it just like in any other subforum.

If people want to jump on the bandwarwagon (pun!), let them. At least they should show that they genuinely tried making people laugh, now topics like "Hello" and the first post being "Bye", that I would qualify as spam, a question in the title and a lame answer as punch(or lack thereof)line, that I think can stay.

    • I was using searxng for about a year , self hosted, but results were starting to timeout and eventually it became unusable so I switched to degoog. Much better for my needs, more polished and add-ons like maps and calculations etc

    • Hello, I am not as familiar with AMD CPUs as I am with Intel's, but as I understand it, that's a mid-range CPU from about three years ago.  I would think it to be fine for everyday casual-type use.  A larger SSD might be better, but with storage prices these days that's a decision that has to be carefully thought about. • Ocenaudio 3.19.5 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.5 changelog: Fixes crashes related to audio devices on Windows (DirectSound and ASIO) Fixes several crashes and memory corruption issues Fixes opening several headerless files at once, which previously dropped all but one Improves batch export by suggesting and remembering the destination folder Fixes accented and non-Latin characters in VST plug-in and compressed-archive file names Adds zstd compression support and updates the archive library Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
