NZB Matrix is DEAD! :'(

Many of the indexing sites obviously have these DCMA people inside them, and are contributing towards the takedowns. They'll never win though and someone else will come along and fill any void.

UseNet has been around for 30+ years, and will outlast this blip

One less way for people to be cheap, oh noes :(

If anything, usenet et al have made me spend waaay more on media than ever before.

And no, I don't mean usenet provider subscription costs. :D

Guys, there are also a couple of good Dutch sites and some German language nzbs that often contain both the German as well as English languages for your linux iso's!

Maybe if companies didn't stick to such archaic ways of distributing their content people wouldn't have to look elsewhere.

US shows rarely come to UK free to air channels, when they do they are usually at least a season or two behind, shows regularly switch channels from season to season or in some cases don't get picked back up or move to pay channels. If you want to skip that you have to wait for the whole season to finish and then wait a few months for the show to come on DVD/Bluray.

If they make it so difficult to consume my content I don't have any issues with downloading TV shows. Thats not a justification, its just my reasoning.

Because it's crucial for you life to not be a year(though today it's usually a month at most) behind Americans in shows.

Well that's a bit of a douchey way to respond to how someone chooses to source their entertainment. We get it you don't like people downloading tv shows or movies

Where did I say it was?

A lot of shows I watch and have watched in the past have switched from channel to channel on free to air and sometimes even to pay channels, some shows were even dropped mid show without explanation. Why should I have to suffer TV channels fighting with each other to gain the rights only to drop them, why should I have to put up with a DVD only release of something months after a show finishes airing even though the show was in HD on US TV.

Most of the stuff I watch I consume by legal means such as catch up services, my subscription to Netflix etc.. the ones that aren't available I have no qualms with downloading as it airs. So stick your holier than thou response where the sun doesn't shine.

Hmmm... Well you know, and sometimes there's even a complete availability issue.

Hey, if anyone can find me a legal source for the tv show W.I.T.C.H by Disney in GERMAN - I need season 2 that never made it to DVD or Bluray...

It got aired ONCE or so I think and back then I wasn't paying attention to the show, now I'm hooked up by season 1, I asked Super RTL (they aired it) whether they know where to obtain it and they only replied that a DVD release is yet to be announced.

I'm pi**ed like hell and there aren't even linux iso's about this, so yeah: I dare you find me a legal copy of WITCH Season 2 in German, I'll probably pay almost any price as I'm just dying to get the show.

Now, English is no problem for me personally usually, but once you get hooked up to the synchronization voices of one season it's hard to accept anything that comes after that.

Well if you choose to steal...

In the mind of people like -T- it isn't stealing, it's sticking it to the evil media industry. Never mind that such an attitude is counter productive at best.

So you're saying it is crucial for you then ?

The tv channels pay for the right to distribute the show, if you don't' want to pay for the channel with the rights, then wait for the DVD/BluRay/Netflix/HBO/itunes/..... and pay for you entertainment, being a few months behind the Americans won't kill you.

Its not as easy as just paying for the channel with the rights, you get stuck with a 12 month contract and have to buy a bundle of channels just to watch a show which is why I watch free to air TV.

I'll 'steal' it if I choose to, they only have themselves to blame when they won't shift with the market. I usually end up buying their crap on DVD anyway, I just download it to watch it early.

If its available legally thats the route I take, if its not, meh.

I think the point he's making is that he consumes his media on his terms, nobody elses. Regardless of legalities. The morality of this is open to debate.

Now the big boys in the industry see it this way: Oh no pirates are ruining our business, let's make every attempt to stop them where we can. Thing is the guys using newsgroups to consume their media with solutions like sickbeard, couchpotato, plex, etc. get a far better end user experience than any of these "legal" alternatives. And the fact is people are still paying ?20+ per month to use these services. It's just that money is going to usenet providers and not the industry.

Well there's something wrong here isn't there? Clearly people are willing to pay. The issue is that there are no legal options that offer such streamlined experiences as the likes of what I've mentioned above. Pay ?20 per month and get 1080p bluray quality movies/tv shows and stream them from your home server to any device outside or inside your home network. Or pay for netflix/lovefilm with their poor quality and limited collections. Or pay for a movie on iTunes which is riddled with DRM and limits the devices you can actual play the the movie on.

I just think the industry should be trying harder to compete with piracy and offering more innovative thinking-outside-the-box solutions like I've mentioned above. I don't think people care who they pay their money to, if it's ultimately pain free and nicely packaged.

umm, no, it pretty much isn't.

It could be understandable or something, but morally, it's not up for debate.

Exactly!!! I've said this before.... I'll happily pay ?20 a month to download tv/movies in 1080p :) just like I do now.

It's their own damn fault, nzbmatrix was great but it will just be replaced by something else and then that replaced by something else, these big companies need to compete rather than try and destroy!!!!!

Exactly Axel, I pay for usenet, Lovefilm and Netflix. I also watch shows on iPlayer, ITVPlayer, 4od and 5Fwd. iTunes is the closest but the DRM means I can't use the content outside of iTunes which is unacceptable.

If they all got together and offered a streaming service like Hulu but with a large enough back catalogue and up to date catch up service I'd gladly take the ?30+ a month I pay for all 3 and put it into such a service.

They are too busying fighting each other with their own streaming services with their own rights to shows forcing people to sign up to multiple services, its ridiculous.

I'd argue that it's up to debate taking into account the questionable morality of the industry. In which case: "###### for tat" may be a better way of putting it. :)

    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.

    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
    • Getting further away from the artistic study of mental disease that was the first game... (which never needed any sequels to begin with) But I get it, a company has to make money. And the second was at least visually impressive, if not in any other way.
    • If its the devs fault you would think Unreal would help M$ take full advantage of Unreal and work with them to fix the performance issues. Otherwise they are catching unwarranted bad press.
