James Tracy, a communications professor at Florida Atlantic University known for dabbling in conspiracy theory, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy by arguing that the Sandy Hook shooting may have been staged.

"As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers, there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends," writes Tracy, a tenured associate professor of media history at FAU and a former union leader.

In another post, he says, "While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place ? at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation's news media have described."

In a December 20 post at his blog, The Memory Hole, Tracy claims that the media were complicit in cutting out evidence of a second shooter. These claims have to be taken with a healthy amount of salt, though--Tracy thinks that the Oklahoma City bombing and 9-11 were both staged.

What little credibility he has left gets jettisoned in another post four days later. Tracy thinks that the lack of public scrutiny of the victims' families is a good reason to question the official narrative. And in a New Year's Day post, Tracy suggests Sandy Hook may have been an emergency drill, and that the White House employed "crisis actors" in an effort to make it easier to push for gun control.

Oh hey, just to fan the flames of conspiracy theorists out there: According to Google one of the Sandy Hook relief websites went up and was cached three days before the shooting ;)

Reminds me of when WTC7 was announced by reporters to be collapsed before it even happened. But is there an explanation to this besides conspiracy?

The date isn't when the site was published. Its when the site was last fully indexed by Google. Or so its believed. No one really knows for sure, because Google doesn't tell. It definitely changes and updates, though, so its not the 'first published' date.

Trust me - anyone that thinks this was staged is a hardcore moron. I have two one-step removed connections to people involved in the SHES Massacre - thats all I will say about that. But it wasn't a conspiracy, it wasn't done by the government, and it wasn't anything but a f***king psycho.

Well the original broadcasts on the local CT news did have and show the second shooter that disappeared, so there is that, and I also like how the story went from the Bushmaster being in his car to him shooting everyone with it, instead of the handguns like originally reported, but I'm not the one asking those questions

Ugh. Yeah, go harass the grieving parents of dead kids to satisfy your delusional worldview. Scumbag.

Why is this any different to all the 911 conspiracy theories? Seems to me there's always some crackpot blathering on about this stuff.

You really should read his reasoning, before labeling the professor as a 'crackpot'. ;)

The media reporting on the Sandy Hook shootings was terrible, with numerous factually inaccuracies and made-up nonsense. It's not due to a conspiracy though, rather an attempt to garner ratings by constantly bombarding the viewer with "breaking news". It was the same with the Aurora shooter.

Unfortunately people would rather believe in elaborate conspiracy theories. It's sad that so many people's lives are so devoid of meaning that they have to manufacture elaborate conspiracies where none exist. There are tens of thousands of firearms-related homicides each year, so there really is no need to make up high-profile shootings - politicians really don't have to manufacture anything to have grounds for restricting firearms.

A few things we know;

people make a lot of noise over events they don't know much about, and near always assume the worse. This gets passed a theory on what happened to others. Someone uses that as hear say and an assumption of facts is created.

The first news reporters that are grabbing a news story go by what the public tell them and they try to put a news story together on information they have at the time. a bit of media leeway is given until a statement is given by the police of actual facts.

If it was a conspiracy, you'd have thought the white house or whoever is behind it would have gotten the facts straight before unleashing the actors or hired hitman/men and letting the media and public in on it.... or maybe that's the plan, give so much false information that people dismiss it when its right under their nose.

Setup or not, the frenzy was done by a person not the weapon. However the media or white house or whoever set it up or are reporting on it have created some what of a black lash on the use of guns. Maybe it was already time with enough parents hating others for having them, could even be that the whole thing was staged but people still don't want guns, or at least want others to have guns. We're still going to have crazy people running around and plotting to kill, next time it might simply be mowing people down in his car or downloading pipe bomb plans off the internet.

Yep. There is a race between networks to "get it first", this usually leads them to getting it wrong. Sometimes woefully wrong. Journalistic integrity and ethics are taking a backseat to rating and sensationalism.

Ignorant people stay ignorant

Interesting vid. People cant seem to get their story right.

The amount of people involved in this is far to great to maintain and hold such a vast conspiracy. The only one screaming conspiracy are the ones outside of the box, those who were directly involved or affect by this have said nothing about this being a hoax. To call people who don't buy into this conspiracy ignorant is based on ignorance itself.

    • I hope this encodes in to AV1 or AV2 as currently tiktok uses h265 and h264.
    • Qualcomm reportedly in talks to build custom video chips for TikTok parent ByteDance by Karthik Mudaliar Qualcomm is reportedly in advanced discussions to provide custom chip-design services to Chinese tech giant ByteDance, the same company behind TikTok. According to a report from Reuters, Qualcomm could be involved in designing custom silicon tailored for ByteDance's massive data-center workloads. If it goes through, the deal would make ByteDance one of Qualcomm's early anchor customers for its fastly growing custom chip-design division, For years, Qualcomm was the king of making smartphone processors and modems. The company has also been moving into the PC ecosystem and other formats such as on-device AI for Android XR headsets. However, this particular deal is about Qualcomm's custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). For a platform like TikTok, ByteDance needs hardware that can help it ingest, process, and serve billions of short-form videos daily. Generalised hardware is no longer the most cost-effective and efficient route, which is why ByteDance is trying to develop custom Video Processing Units (VPUs). VPUs designed specifically for ByteDance’s algorithmic needs could drastically reduce data-center power consumption and improve encoding speeds at an unprecedented scale. The underlying tech behind these processors is actually from Qualcomm's recent acquisition of AlphaWave Semi, a high-speed connectivity specialist company. By combining AlphaWave’s high-bandwidth IP with Qualcomm’s architectural expertise, the company could begin mass production by the end of 2026, if the talks go through. All this also comes at a time when U.S.-China tech relations have dwindled. Escalating trade frictions between Washington and Beijing have severely impacted the export of high-end AI chips from U.S. firms like Nvidia, AMD, and Lam Research. Yet, the Qualcomm-ByteDance discussions show that U.S. tech companies are still actively seeking growth avenues and are open to doing business with China, where regulators still permit. Reuters notes that the outcome of this deal could be uncertain, and ByteDance might also seek partners other than Qualcomm. via Reuters | Image via DepositPhotos.com
    • Look who's back!
    • I wonder how driving laws around the world will change. No way to really tell if people are using phone. Same with smart watches i guess even now and those silly built in tablets for controlling the car instead of buttons.
