EA's response to being named the Worst Company in America

Recommended Posts

wow, way to come off as arrogant pricks

edit: is this actually a real response from EA? because I see the Dorkly logo in the corner

I don't know, I thought so at first but replies on their twitter page are saying it might not be

EA was voted worst company because of it's public relations..... unfortunately the oil companies have great public relations, EA on the other hand.... no... this isn't a look at the companies ethics, its a look at how people perceive them

This is their actual response: http://www.ea.com/ne...e-can-do-better

Lol, I read that, got to the 'simcity not about drm' and stopped reading, they still can't admit it... And that is why for the past... I don't even know how long, 10 years now? I haven't bought an EA game.

Parody response aside, I'm really not surprised they got voted as the worst company, they are (at least in the video game world). In fact, them having the Star Wars MMO franchise via Bioware is a perfect bit of irony really, as you won't find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy elsewhere in the videogame industry. ;)

I think "gamers" today don't enjoy themselves anymore. They just sit around bitching about how every game they DON'T play sucks, and then even the ones they DO, they're somehow not getting enough. I'm not saying there aren't ever valid arguments, but half the garbage that gets posted just makes me want to avoid MMOs and multiplayer games altogether, if only to live in comfort for the fact that I won't have to hear one of these whiny asshats ranting on about how a game they spent $30 on "sucked" after logging hundreds of hours to it.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to stand up when a company does something rotten. However, for EA to sit atop the throne, crowned as the worst company, I can't but feel this is just BS first-world problems.

The thing is, this is not a "general public" vote... The people who voted for EA are not likely to be non-gamers, the people who took part in such a poll and voted EA are going to be gamers and those who care - basically EA's audience.

They genuinely cannot even understand their own audience anymore. And their response (not the image posted but their actual response) was in no way likely to help the situation.

it's a fake as no company would say their products are mediocre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Ratner) However i am surprised at the amount of backlash for EA, i didn't think they did anything more 'evil' than other large gaming companies such as Activision and Ubisoft. I enjoy quite a few games from EA and never let that sway me when purchasing games, if i did i don't think i would buy games from anyone apart from Nintendo and Valve.

I went ahead and brought simcity, i actually really like it. It's not Simcity 2000/3000 but it is a good simulation game. It takes a different approach of instead of building cities you build regions, something which was kind of predicted in SC4.

Don't get me wrong i don't like DRM and would love to be able to play Simcity offline, i do believe the whole we need the cloud to power this game is a farce, i think that the majority of the always online culture is that they wanted the game to be very social which is really evident from the region setups, so i think the cloud stuff was a way to ensure this feature was added and used.

As for the multitude of add-ons and micro-purchases, i don't really care, as long as they are not needed to complete the game or play the game in it's true sense, i treat DLC, Micro-purchases as i do in forum topics i don't like on the internet, i don't comment, i don't buy em, i simply ignore them.

As for the quote, it depends on who has voted them the worst company and the context they did it in. If we over generalize then all companies are 'good' apart from Exxon and BP, this allows 'good' companies to slip in standards, just because there are worse companies doesn't mean that all companies can be pulled in when they perform badly. If the consumerist was comparing consumer electronics companies then they have every right to say that EA is the worst if voted by judges/public. If they were talking of all companies then of course EA is far from the worst, there are plenty of 'evil' companies out there, including the BP's, Exxonn's and most of all the pharma's and banks.

    • OpenClaw now has native mobile apps on iOS and Android by Karthik Mudaliar OpenClaw, the viral open-source personal AI agent, now has its own mobile app, available on both Android and iOS. Users can pair the app with an existing OpenClaw gateway and can start using new mobile-native features that are now available on the app. The app supports all the existing features you'd already have seen on OpenClaw's TUI, as well as some more, such as real-time and background Talk mode, action approvals, sharing from iOS, and optional access to device capabilities such as camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These features are available on both the Android and iOS versions of the app. What's important with these apps is that they don't run OpenClaw on your phone, but are actually just companion apps that require a running OpenClaw Gateway on an existing device, on macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2. To pair the app with your existing OpenClaw gateway, users need to run the command "/pair qr" on the TUI or existing chat interface, which brings up a QR code. Users can then scan this QR code to pair it up with the mobile app. There's also an option to manually pair the app by entering the host and a port. Previously, OpenClaw had been available on phones via WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Matrix, and others. Now, with a native mobile app, the interface is much cleaner and more focused on just the OpenClaw, of course, with the added support for camera, screen, location, and more. It's important to note that OpenClaw comes with its own security warnings. There's always a chance of prompt injection with these tools, so users are recommended to double-check authentication, tool policy, sandboxing, and execution approvals rather than prompts alone. For users well-versed with the AI harness, a native mobile app makes it easier to approve an automation, share a link, use voice, or let an agent react to phone-side context.
    • Google pitches Spanner as one database for all AI agents with these new featues by Karthik Mudaliar Google Cloud is introducing new features within Spanner, its distributed database, as a place where enterprises should keep their data, using which AI agents could make smarter and better decisions. In a detailed blog post, Google highlighted quite a few features coming to Spanner, including relational data, graph relationships, vector search, key-value access, full-text search, and operational analytics together in one database architecture. Google says that today's systems aren't well-made for AI agents. There could be data that is present in one system, search indexes in another, embeddings in a vector database, and relationship data in a graph database. This fragmentation isn't great for AI agents to do their jobs because they don't have access to all of this data in one place. This is where Google is positioning Spanner as a solution. Spanner is already a globally distributed relational database with strong consistency, and Google wants its customers to see it as a broader data layer for AI applications. The company introduced something called Spanner Graph, along with integrated vector search, full-text search, a Cassandra-compatible key-value endpoint, and a columnar engine for analytical queries on operational data. Google also added that its ScaNN-powered vector search can support indexes with more than 10 billion vectors, while the columnar engine can make some analytical scans up to 200 times faster. All of this isn't just exclusive to the Google Cloud Platform, and there's support for multi-cloud as well. This comes via Spanner Omni, which Google says is a downloadable, containerized version of Spanner that can run on Kubernetes and in environments outside Google Cloud, including Microsoft Azure and AWS, and even on-premises infrastructure as well as edge deployments. Google says that customers who are interested in the full-featured edition should contact the company, and there's no word on commercial availability or separate pricing. Those interested can read the full blog by Google Cloud, which details these features individually.
