Status is, I've JUST finished everything, now I'm bringing it home and gonna merge it with the the last copy of the AP. I'm going to then post all the details (size, etc) and then I'm going to give it a test run. I'll post what I found (errors if any), and then... if it's all perfect, I'll start uploading. The site is done (as much as I can do for now... you'll see what I mean when it launches here soon)... and yes, all the forums point back to here, so don't worry. :)

Huzah! Perfect timing, just got the notebook back from a repair today, gave it a fresh install... Not to mention I'm going out for dinner... which means I'll have something to pass the time!

hes santa? that must mean that Raptor is the easter bunny?, i wonder if theres any easter eggs in the autopatcher.

its the 16th in new zealand now, wheres the all singing all dancing, uncanny autopatcher?

just kidding i can wait another week as long as it works.

JESUS people when you see links, its ready to download, when the site is updated to 2.0 its ready.

Flish and Raptor are not sitting on there hands. Calm down, sit tight, all will be done ASAP. Please stop putting pressure on the guy. He is going as fast as he can while making sure this is 100% ready for all of you.

we'll get the link soon enough and me and jono, will get cracking on setting up a method to slipstream it into a unattended install CD for WinXP.

im writing a tutorial now. all i need is the link, but this give time to talk to jono and polish the guide...

if you all have any ideas, notes or comments about what we are doing, i'll setup a link for the guide in a bit.

This is a bit pointless now but I had to atleast put my .02 in :)

Hi,

Wow I spent the last two weekends trying to figure out how to make an automated Windows XP CD that would install all the patches and hotfixes and a few other programs. Someone had pointed me to a guide at msnf.com. After spending days trying to get it to work I was about to give up when I was at a different forum and someone had mentioned this new program called AutoPatcher XP and I was like @#% why didn?t I learn about this earlier. I still think it was divine intervention that led me to find the link to the Neowin forums. After finally getting the automated setup for my Windows XP disk and SP1 and the windows update rollup pack integrated into my Windows XP CD. I figured I would stop trying to figure out why my updates were not installing. It was a long process because I had to reformat many times to try to see if the install was working.

I started using AutoPatcher XP and I was really impressed as it has a nice ?clean feeling to it?. I figured while everyone else had given you their thoughts and feelings about the product I would try to give you mine even though that you are about to release a new version of the program. That will probably clear up the issues that I find with the program!

The biggest one that I hope you have implemented in the new release. I think everything else I want to say has been mentioned but I just want to hit on a few big ones. I hope you do some drop down description thing for each patch and update saying exactly why a normal person would want and need the update. IE: ?What the heck does this do for me? Just kind in basic terms. For example: Why should I care about deleting the .NET user account!? Is it causing a security risk by not deleting it? The same goes for everything listed in the program. Why does the average Joe Give a rip about this update or add-on. I actually found a lot of good programs that I never knew existed because of your program. Like the integrated spell check on the IE bar! This may take a bit of work trying to write something up for each individual thing but IT WOULD BE WORTH IT!!!!! I found myself going to google and searching for the diffrent addons to find out what it would actually do to my computer and what was good and bad about the powertoy and programs if I installed it and it was sorta of a pain.

I have noticed how people have said how they just want an AutoPatcher XP with only windows xp updates and no addons or anything. I don?t mind having the add-ons as you have made the AutoPatcher totally customizable by the user so we can change the way it looks and delete the files that we don?t want! This is what makes AutoPatcher so kick !@$. The one thing I do have a problem with is including programs on the CD that are not made for Windows XP. I think they should only be valid tools that won?t hog system resources or programs that could possible crash windows or programs that have a history of crashing windows.

The other big thing I would like to see is some type of built in cleaner file. It would be nice to have some type of automated process that will clean up the windows files and folders after doing a fresh install. For example deleting out files that no one needs and will not harm any program or crash windows by deleting them!

I would also like to see a major reorganizing of files and folders and have things put in nice and neat order with some logic to the files in the folders. It?s was just way to messy for anyone to try to fix up and organize!

I also noticed that the files are getting rather large. Is it possible or will it eventually be needed to put the files to span across two different cd disks!? I would love to make a lot of automated processes when doing a clean format of windows. It would be cool to make it so right after Windows XP is fresh installed it asks for the autopatcher xp disk and just start installing the patches automatically!? Just hope this is something that

It also seems to me that it takes forever to install all the updates.. I am not sure but it just seems very slow and very long to get everything installed. Is there some strange performance issue or am I just nuts!?

Other than those few things I think you guys could bottle and sell this nice neat little program! I can?t wait till the new version comes out before I start sending money to you guys via paypal! What a great little program that will save me and people I know tons of hassle because I know tons of people that still use dialup because broadband isn?t available in the area!

I don't think it was a useless post at all. I think it brought up some good points and ideas. Also I've been interested in this project since the November release when I started to look into it further. I say this is a great program and I've donated some money and will most likely be donating a Christmas present as well since I don't expect people to spend this much time to do something like this. I think this is a great idea and am very happy that some people can take the time out of their busy lives to do such a great project for all of us. This is one task that has been getting way out of hand every month with Windows XP. I've got a broadband connection and it has been getting pretty long to download these updates. I reformat my computer so much that it does become very time consuming. I've been using Norton Ghost for the last couple of months but for some reason everytime I restore my system it just never runs like a fresh install. For some people on Dial-up it isn't even worth it to get their system up to date. I also don't understand why Microsoft doesn't allow you to download the updates to your computer. If they do allow this they don't make it said whatsoever on their website.

This is a great program and I will say again it is great what you are doing as far as effort and time goes. You have so many other things you could be doing this holiday season but you are choosing this. Hey if you can give a gift to the world this gift can reach a whole sh*t load of people by the first of the year.

Keep up the good work and I will be looking forward to getting the December update whenever it's ready for primetime. Don't rush on it and pull a Microsoft Windows ME.

he didnt say the long post was useless....

he said his post was useless....

and you can dnld the updates as files...

mess around on the lefft side of your ms win update

and invoke the catalog.....

have fun....

flish !!!!!!!

if you dont hurry up

well have to send more money....

great job

as far as simplifying the automation process, jono has a bad a$$ batch file that automates the entire process!!

just run the file, enter in some directories and with in minutes you have an iso to burn to a CD that will

have SP1a and the auto patcher slipstreamed and during the install process, it will install your custom autopatcher

updates. here is the link for the guide and how to do everything.

AutoPatcher SlipStream Guide

as of right now (12.16.2003 12.01) its sitting on my desktop awaiting the download link for the file.

within hours it should be up.

    • On the one hand, it shouldn't be difficult. You buy a computer, you decide what OS you want, which browser etc. Simple enough. But that's the techie side of things. My sister, my mother, wouldn't bother with such a thought. And I'm pretty sure that if you presented a window asking them what to pick they would say, "I don't care! I just want to access my Email!"

    • Anyone who expects MS to play fair is a complete idiot.
    • Everyone behaves like Internet Explorer just never happened and Edge is whole new thing all while Microsoft is pulling the exact same ###### it did back then. Sigh.
