Haven't seen it on any of the X1 games though.

We wont see it that much this gen for both the One and PS4. I know a lot of people refuse to acknowledge it but the matter of the fact is the video game market is changing.

Back in the days we had 2 consoles and the PC. And a PC was very expensive. When i was young a gaming PC could cost well over 2k. A console was something around 200$ i think. Today you can build a fairly good PC for around 1k. A console cost between 400 and 500$. The price will even get closer next gen i predict. I remember when i bought my ATI Rage Fury. I paid lot of money for it and it was outdated some months later. Today you can go out and buy a 200$ card and it will do the job for 2  years.

Today we have mobile (phone, tablet, ipod, portable console), we have "PC" (windows, mac, linux) and we have 3 consoles. Soon mobile/indie games will be playable right from the TV hardware. We are not too far from the day you will be able to play games like Machinarium on your TV hardware using a PS or XBox controller.

These days there's no reason for a company to remain exclusive. There's too much to lose and not enough to gain. There's too much potential marketshare missing from being exclusive. We will see more and more games released on PS4/One/Windows/Mac/Linux(SteamOS) Like Kingdom Come. It will cost a lot of money to buy the exclusivity for a 3rd party company IP. I'm sure MS did pay money for Titanfall not to be released on PS4 and i'm sure if the game is popular it will cost them far more money for the sequel to remain exclusive. Most of the exclusive this gen will probably be 1st party IP.

I don't remember it ever being used in official ads or print etc, but I'm certainly aware of the term "console exclusive".

Microsoft's official term was and is "Only on Xbox". Used to be included on cover art:

That's probably it. "Only on Xbox"

That was definitely used on Xbox games that were also on the pc. Someone can find a list of Xbox games with that tag and see how many of them there actually were, but I remember it coming up a fair bit with people arguing it was bogus because it ignored pc releases.

Well like I say, that label was for Xbox games, long before the 360 too.

Games like Halo 1, Halo 2, Fable 1, Gears 1 etc were all released exclusively on the Xbox platforms. They were later ported to PC, so the "only on Xbox" no longer applied. That changed as the 360 got older and games like Mass Effect 1, L4D etc was released at the same time on PC and the covers still included the "Only on Xbox" stamp. Well, it wasn't only on Xbox  So that's probably what you remember people arguing over.

The term "Console exclusive" is just something I think the gamers or press came up with to say it's not on PS2/3 or vice versa Xbox/360.

And actually it isn't a great description to begin with. It could be confused with something that's only released on PS3/4 and 360/X1 but not on PC (i.e Vanquish, Bayonetta etc) (N).

I'm pretty sure it hasn't.... I may be totally wrong, but show me another game, that came out on a Console, and was also on PC that was touted as an "exclusive" to said console. I just skimmed this list and couldn't find any marked as "YES" in "Exclusive" that came out on PC as well - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_exclusives_(seventh_generation). The definition of Exclusive is very clear - not shared : available to only one person or group, thus, if it is on Xbox One and PC, it is not an "Exclusive"

Actually the term "exclusive" has been frequently used to refer to a game that is exclusive to one console while also being released on PC. Sure it's misleading but that doesn't stop publishers using the term.

I'm not saying those people have permission to stream the game just that they are. So do so at your own risk.

Realized I can actually use Twitter at work, and bam it looks like it's okay.

Stupid question potentially, I signed up as well as a few friends, he got in and I didn't. Now he isn't that interested in playing so has offered me his key... is this ok, is the key tied to you in anyway? I assume not but I don't want to use his key and block it if its somehow tied.

Just got my key. I went for the PC key but due to a mistake they sent out XB1 keys to some PC users.

Here is the way to get a PC key if you have an XB1 key by mistake.

Hopefully should be on tonight to give it a go.

On X1, the beta looks a lot beta than the Alpha but still not that great. It looks quite poor maxed out on PC tbf.

Amazing game though, really awesome. Getting <30ms~ on the European DC's. No network issues, excellent servers. What I like to see.

It is based off of Source. So you can't expect much from it.

If they nail the gameplay. Which sounds like the have. Then graphics don't matter at all. It will just annoy the PC Master race who will complain a multi-platform game doesn't use all the latest technology available.

well that sucks.. I Alpha tested and signed up for beta but didn't get an key... Really was looking forward to playing it this weekend

They're sending them out in waves all weekend. You're not out of look yet, registration is even still open.

No key yet for myself, which would have been cool as I am taking a sick day from work today and it would have given me a chance to check out a game I am very much leaning towards not getting, perhaps it could have swayed me to do so. Still early though, so maybe one will come my way.

Exactly. They've got they're own custom rendering solution but it seems it's still highly source.

The gameplay is really balanced and fun. There's never a moment where you feel overwhelmed and it's hectic all the time. The bots are dumb, but it creates a good dynamic between what you actually hunt down. The servers and netcode on it is easily the best I've played with on a console to date. Honestly, it feels exactly like your on a decent high tick server as-if on PC.

If I get one early today I will give it to you so you can play while you are home. Then if you get one you can give it to me since I won't be able to play till late tonight/tomorrow morning anyways

    • I think you meant the "ntfs3" driver, but yes there have been a lot of fixes for it in this release and previous releases, not 100% sure if the issue you mentioned is fixed though. In any case, the new "ntfs" driver in 7.1 doesn't have that issue (at least, no reports of such have come thru), but your kernel needs to explicitly enable support for the new driver first (like how CachyOS kernel has it), and you need to edit your mount points in /etc/fstab to use "ntfs" instead of the other drivers.
    • Epic Games says Unreal Engine 6 will help developers "build content faster" using AI models by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Epic Games is rolling out the latest major update to Unreal Engine 5 today, and at the same time, the company also dropped some information on the next-generation version of the product, Unreal Engine 6. This was already revealed a few weeks ago alongside the new Rocket League upgrade reveal. The company says it is combining the features of Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite to create this new version of its popular media creation tool. On top of creating entire games, the new engine will also focus on letting developers operate large-scale live service titles more easily, whether by shipping content into their own ecosystems or into Fortnite. The use of large language models is also mentioned here, with Epic saying it will be a core part of the engine. "We see LLMs, generative AI models, and tools like Claude and Codex playing a central role in helping you build content faster while maintaining the creative control you need," adds the company. Here is the rundown of what's new about version 6 of Unreal Engine: With all these changes to the programming model, portability upgrades, and generative AI integration, Epic says the new version of the engine will "change a lot about how games are made." The company aims to ship Unreal Engine 6 into early access in late 2027, with a full release planned for 12-18 months later. Epic Games also dropped a lengthy blog post about the new Unreal Engine 5.8 update for game developers over here. The release is focused on delivering better performance, customization, and streamlined workflows for development teams. This will be the final major update for this version of the engine before Epic switches to focus fully on Unreal Engine 6's early access launch.
    • Watch Louis Rossmann's recent experience on YouTube about trying to get a warranty replacement from Samsung. It's crazy.
    • That is the thing, how many of these people don't realise they are using AI? If they use Google Search they have no choice but to use AI. So yes, maybe half of American adults do use and I expect a lot of Uk adults do to, but I bet most of them don't realise it. Myself, i avoid the rubbish.
    • They use FREE AI. They aren't paying for this meme-generating slopware...
