First time I tried it I got in a server with horrible lag, thought WTF...then tried the original and had the same problem til I reset my modem+router.

:) Never had that happen before, but it was funny.

Hmm, I haven't seen any issues yet apart from what was mentioned on the Titanfall website around finding matches taking longer. I'm happy with that as I've had loads of great matches where the point difference at the end being < 50.

the balancing issues are becoming more severe as people keep racking up those pilot gens. The tendency to have like three G3/G4's against a team of non-prestige players indicates someone didn't think this through.

Those tags have no link to skill in any way, shape or form. I was on a team where there was no Gen'x' players and the other team was entirely gen tagged. They lost, and lost hard. :)

Textures are quite low res for me, even though I have them set to high. Random bits of geometry are rendering with mipmapped textures and I can see the scaling artifacts.

Edit: But I do like that they're looking at fixing matchmaking a bit, way too often for me it makes stupidly unbalanced teams and then never attempts to correct it. Although I think shuffling the teams would be better than just finding new ones between games.

Odd.  What card?  I haven't noticed this on a 660.  In fact I can't even tell why anyone would diss the graphics.

Yeah I hadn't either, it was just my hardware glitching is what I meant (not the game.)

I came to CS with Condition Zero (I never played the original CS); my original exposure to tactical shooters was Rainbow Six.

Arguably I wouldn't classify CS as a tactical shooter, not in the same category as RS anyway.

So, about the lockout, no one knows? If you play with a cheat and get on a cheat server are you told so? Are you told who in your party is the cheater ?

It's a 570, "only" has 1.3GB of VRAM which could be the issue (I read somewhere that Titanfall wants 3GB or so, which seems crazy to me but I was just looking at a 780 with 4GB a few months back?)

I don't think it tells you, but at the same time it's never going to put a cheater into a non-cheater party (or vice versa), the only way a non-cheater could join a cheat party was if they were invited in (And again, vice versa)

Yeah, but if you're in a group with "friends" or something, you don't know you're on a cheater server, except everyone else is having a party with killing you :) and even after you figure it out then, unless the cheater tells you, you don't know who in your party is the cheaper. granted, with like 3 people max? it's not that many to chose from :)

Ahh.  Yeah, probably.  I'm pretty sure High is meant for 2GB vidcards.  Insane is for 3GB vidcards.

I'll be buying a new card this summer.

Yes, not sure why they didn't just do an auto player shuffle every few rounds. I can see the logic in trying to encourage impromptu team building, I mean if you play with the same people a few rounds it increases the chances of cooperation and making new friends. But as much as this is an almost perfect MP experience, the balancing issues are becoming more severe as people keep racking up those pilot gens. The tendency to have like three G3/G4's against a team of non-prestige players indicates someone didn't think this through.

I've noticed this was a problem in most shooters lately that have ranking systems and unlocks. They don't seem to consider placing people of similar experience into the same game and as a result create an obnoxious matchup like this. Players with no real experience against hardened veterans. I understand that the best way to learn is playing against more experienced players but I'm tired of entering games (not just in Titanfall, but things like BF3/4, etc):

1. People yelling about how bad the new players are (despite the fact they are... new)

2. Being repeatedly dominated by players with toolkits 2x-5x larger than our own because they've unlocked most of the content.

It just breeds an unfun and unfair experience when the game doesn't consider that a level 7 player who's got < 2 hours of game time shouldn't be matched up with level 40's and who knows how much game time they have. I really hope this gets fixed because it is the primary reason I've stopped playing most shooters lately. Too much reward for experience and no help for those trying to break into the game. I miss shooters where everyone was on an even playing field and a rank actually factored in beyond just letting new players know their fighting an unfair fight.

The improved matchmaking beta seems to be much better.

So it shouldn't be too long before they move it to the main code.

Well said Emnity. Seriously, game has been out for less than a month and there are people who prestiged ten times already...this is skill through repetition. You can tell they go through the same routines every time, they know the maps by heart. It's not playing anymore, it's robotic. Honestly i don't know what personality enjoys a game when experiencing it like this. Anyway, the matchmaking has you believe three of these people are a fair opposing force for a team of players who haven't prestiged yet. Skill or not, the G10's literally run circles around the others, and after a while you stop being in a game, you become target practice and an ego boost for people who think it's ok to put 100 hours into one game in two weeks. Just look at their gamertags...most of them less than 1K gamerscore, basically Titanfall is the only game they play.

Long story short, while it's part of the game it's also why i don't stick with MP shooters long term. Titanfall got to rank 50, felt closure, moved on. May do the campaigns but those I find redundant, so maybe not. Ditto Ghosts...got to rank 49 and then fed up with the prestige X9 rank 60 people who somehow every round finish at 37:2. There's enough frustration in life without being someone's pet whipping boy added to it. It's entertainment, not an exercise in frustration.

the game has been great, from the fun gameplay mechanics to the graphics, etc.

I was surprised that you lost EVERYTHING when you increase your GEN. Specially the useful addons and weapons. I'm currently on GEN2 at lvl 15.

Perhaps making different challenges or more unlockable stuff could help.

Is it just me or does the CAR SMG suck?  I might go back to the Hemlock here.

It's really good but you have to rely on burst when firing at distance to keep it accurate enough. The addon that enhances accuracy when firing from the hip is worth it.

The Hemlock is good but I stopped using while I as trying to unlock the CAR because the speed of the burst is not that great and sometimes I missed killing someone because 1 or 2 shots didn't get to the head of missed the target. I also didn't like the 5-fire burst addon. They should have added semi-auto fire instead for single shots but that's just me.

The best overall weapon is the CAR. Many is the shotgun for the overkill power and it's very effective but not too fun. The Carbine is very useful too and it's great they have it as the default weapon for everyone.

Ahh.  Yeah, probably.  I'm pretty sure High is meant for 2GB vidcards.  Insane is for 3GB vidcards.

I have a 1GB Radeon 5850 with the textures on High and it runs very well. I had to change one or two settings to medium to improve the input lag that got me killed on close encounters the first week I started playing, lol.

I didn't try that weapon.  Hemlock with the starburst upgrade was real solid, but the LMG tears it up even more.

You are the first one I read to have liked that addon. For me it was worthless because the burst doesn't have much speed and some of the bullets don't hit moving targets fast enough. I settled with the CAR and sometimes switch to the shotgun for fun.

I haven't used the LMG but I plan to do so and see if it's worth it.

Maybe by matching the total amount of level numbers per team could be a start. Other than that, shuffling every couple of matches is good too if one team has been dominating the last matches.

One thing I noticed last week is that there are many players talking BS about d*cks and other stuff and got me irritated the first time. I just ignored that but man is so annoying. This has been my 1st MP in years so I guess nowadays every other game is plagued with players like that.

You can't do anything against people that play it like crazy everyday. The resetting stuff I didn't like because all the time spent unlocking addons and weapons is totally wasted for just a GEN tag. I think it's a little lame because there really is no incentive to keep resetting everytime if you loose your hard earned unlocks.

eh, I got to level 50, haven't bothered prestiging (I find it pointless to unlock all the ###### you've already unlocked for epeen). I still find the game fun and do pretty well in most matches.

Oh for sure, the more power to them...i don't want to do anything about them, my solution is to walk away. I would hope developers would maybe consider more sophisticated matchmaking, but if not, then so be it. With so much content out there, putting Ghosts away after five months is fine (yeah i'm only rank 49 after five months...), and Titanfall - it's been an awesome two-three week run, but it's enough. Time to move on.

Same here, just hit the regen button for the achievement heh heh, no intention of ever playing again - maybe the campaigns, maybe. I agree prestiging is pointless, to me. If people love that, why not. The quick sequence that asks you if you're sure you want to regen is pretty fun and well-executed, though.

I know, maybe with just better matchmaking this can be avoided.

Playing with against people who are only one GEN above and one below (if you are on GEN3 or more) could make for more balance matches.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
