Just a simple question, If you're travelling in a car at the speed of light, and you turn your lights on, do they do anything?

If you don't want to answer that, it's fine as my real question was...

On the Community Index, or Forum Page, one can hover (or mouseover) a username, and have options, Like seeing the Avatar Picture, Rating, a 'Find Content' Button, and a 'Send PM' Button, and of course the add/remove friend button, amongst other information.

Would it be possible to add a 'Report this User' button to that Menu?

Hell, while I'm asking, How bout a 'Block User' on the same menu?

You can block users posts from being shown.

No because the power requirements to make a car travel at such a speed would drain the battery.

Yes, but it would be a quicker way to block, or in the context that I'm asking, 'report' a user, just like how one can send a pm just by 'hovering' over the username,

Basically, removing a step or two   :)

I think it would be a good idea to have a block/report option in there.

Personally the pop ups annoy me (when you hover by accident) so I block them.

I do understand your point, but in all fairness, couldn't you just move the mouse to another part of the page?

Not that there's anything wrong with how you choose to view the site (just to clarify) :)

I could, but it is a very very rare time that I actually look at anyone's profile, so it is more convenient for me to hide them than accidentally have them show

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't reporting a post technically like reporting the user.

In a way, yes, but I was thinking more about a one step method of reporting, or blocking a user without clicking on said user's profile. If it can't be done that's ok too.

Was it something I said?

lol no just a faster way (for me at least) to report spammers. Something I actively participate in doing as the moderation of the website is also partly our responsibility.

Like if many users report some guy advertising porn, or some method to watch movies or buy fake passports and crap like that, (the system in place fir this is great)

Then there's users that spam in their status updates.

I'm faster looking for a report this user on mouseover than clicking on their profile, rather than clicking the profile.

OK I get what you mean about blocking, but for reporting a post (basically user) it is located at the bottom right hand side of every post, so you don't have to access their profile to report them.

Ah! I love reporting spammers, it's like a sport for me.

I wish we had a bonus point system for it or something, with leader-boards. That could be fun.

But then some people would report genuine members that have done nothing wrong just to get to the top of the leaderboards.

well obviously if this was done, reporting genuine members would get you no points or even penalties :p

but yeah, i agree, making a competition of it is probably not the greatest of ideas

Yes but when they're putting the spam ad in their status, you have to click the profile.

Not the end of the world, just quicker.

Oh you meant statuses, well I guess these features probably could be implemented easily, if the dev team are willing to this, but now I can see why you would want a report user link/button and not just a report post button/link and I agree since getting rid of spammers faster is good. :)

lol I've been thinking about all that space you see when hovering over a username, it just occured to me, a button probably exists, for mods, to ban said spammers :p

So it's probably not possible

Since staff don't need a report button they could still probably fit it in the unused space for members.

Yes, it is. Reporting simply the user is not as helpful, because when you report the post, we see not only who the user is, but what they did to deserve reporting as well. Unless their infraction is on their profile, we can't see what the problem is unless we go digging through their posting history. So that particular button would not be very useful.

As for the blocking, the list of users you choose to block is in your settings (under Ignore Preferences), and within that list you can select to block their posts, messages, or just their signature. It's best to manage it from there so you can adjust the "level" of the block. Hopefully you aren't doing this often enough to need a "quick" way to do it ;)

So... I'm not a dev, but I doubt this is a change that will be implemented.

I've never had to use the report function before, so I thought what it did was kind of different than how you've explained it, although It would be handy if the developers would add this for the members who use it e.g. Dushmany.

    • But building your own.. what? You can't build anything like the Steam Machine yourself. Even trying to get close costs a good deal more. Even just the CPU cooler in their price comparison is as big as the entire Steam Machine. If you want a regular gaming PC, then by all means, build that. If you want a a small console-like PC for the living room that is good for gaming, I'm not sure what else is a better deal. In the GN review, they only mentioned a small form factor Dell, which is like twice the size and hundreds of dollars more expensive.
    • Those are some popular multiplayer games. But hardly "all". Just those that don't work on Linux currently due to specific anti-cheat implementations. I think it's also fair to point out the literally thousands of games that don't work on the PS5. And it's not locked at 1080p. That's the default, which you can change.
    • Ubuntu Livepatch arrives on Arm64 to eliminate system reboots for kernel updates by Paul Hill Canonical has just announced that its Livepatch service now supports computers with Arm64 processors. For those who are not familiar, Livepatch allows users to apply important kernel updates without any service interruption or rebooting. While home users will benefit from this, it’s even more important for critical machines that absolutely should not be going offline at all. The feature is available as part of Ubuntu Core 26 for Arm64 and Ubuntu Core 20 and onwards for AMD64. According to Canonical, this will improve the security of systems that aren’t security-maintained daily or weekly, and it helps organizations work towards Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. If you are familiar with Ubuntu, you probably know that most packages can be updated without having to restart the system. There is one big exception to this, and that’s the kernel; it typically requires you to reload the system to boot into the new kernel. With Livepatch, Canonical has done something so that you don’t need to restart to begin using the new kernel. Aside from Ubuntu Core 26, users with Arm64 chips running Ubuntu 26.04 LTS can also use Livepatch. If you want to learn more about Livepatch, check out its product page. There, you can also find a button to join Ubuntu Pro (it’s free for several home devices) so that you can enable Livepatch. By linking your computer to Ubuntu Pro, you will also extend the life of your Ubuntu install from five years to ten years. If you are running Ubuntu, let us know in the comments if you have been looking forward to this feature on your ARM-based computer. If you’ve had a compatible AMD64 machine for a while and never used this feature, let us know why in the comments!
