Picked up a Wii U, this weekend

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone :)

My wife and I picked up Wii-U this weekend, thought I would share about it.. I have posted in a lot of threads saying that I would get one eventually, was waiting for the "right game" to come out.. But, we got excited and went ahead and picked it up.

We got the Wii-U Mario and Luigi edition, Super Mario 3D World, and the Pro Controller.. Got home around 11:30 or Midnight? Set everything up and powered it on.. The console is a nice size and stays very cool. When I turned it on, there were a couple of updates I had to do before I could play anything.. It took about two hours to get everything updated and setup to play.. The PS4, updated within five minutes and that was it.. Not sure why it was such a task with the Wii-U..

The next morning, (feel asleep during all the updates, wife watched the Santa Clause, lol) I put in Super Mario Brothers Wii-U.. I have to say, it is A LOT OF FUN! We have played it for ours and still enjoying it. We will play the new Super Mario 3D work tonight. The Pro controller batter doesn't last too long, maybe four hours? There are a lot of other games I want to pick up like Sonic All Star racing.. This will give us something to play until the PS4 gets some more titles.. What other games should I be on the look out for?

The games on Wii U seem to be pretty fun. Too bad this console is going to be pretty much ignored, like the TurboGrafx and Dreamcast.

I'm sure the next Zelda game will be a lot of fun.

Also, get Super Castlevania 4 for the Virtual Console. It was one of my favorite Super NES games.

I think Super Mario 3D World is the only Wii U game that I'd consider to be brilliant. So you've pretty much bought all there is worth buying at the moment!

Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD are excelent exclusives.

Also Rayman legends is incredible and great for two player, along with Sonic Racing.

The above 4 games and what you've already got a imo better than anything available on the ps4/xbone right now. With Mario kart, Bayonetta 2 and donkey Kong coming next year, you've made a great choice!

If your looking for games to play with your wife, Wii Party U is great fun and comes with a motion plus controller so basically costs next to nothing.

It's alot like mario party.

I have the Wii U and the Mario and Luigi U games.  Beaten them both in 3 weeks lol, then play them all over again on a new save file.

Some other retail titles currently available that could be worth checking out would be:

Wind Waker HD

Wonderful 101

Pikmin 3

Nintendo Land

Rayman Legends

Sonic Lost World(it's better than many reviewers say, imo)

Some also say things like zombiu, monster hunter 3, and lego city are good. But i haven't played those myself.

Lego City: Undercover is a great game (I say  this from experience). Only complaints are loading times and lack of multiplayer. Otherwise, it's an excellent experience (perhaps the best LEGO game out there, in my opinion). The map is enormous and the loading times are only an issue if you're going from story level to story level.

Others I've played or plan on getting are Nintendo Land (great multiplayer experience), ZombiU (my brother enjoys this), New Super Mario Bros. (it's still decent), Super Mario 3D World (looks awesome), and Wind Waker HD (I've clocked in like 200+ hours on GC Wind Waker, so it'd be nice to try it in a genuine HD experience).

They just need a new Zelda... Mmmm... Imagine if it looks like the E3 tech demo. That would make me cry tears of joy.

That'd be great and is what i'm really hoping for. It to look like the e3 2011 demo.

It's not an exclusive, but I would like to throw in that if you don't have one of the now last gen systems, Arkham City Armored Edition is a pretty great buy at about $20. If you've already played it then disregard.

Congrats - my suggestions are:

Mario Bros

Mario 3d World

Lego City Undercover (great underrated game, if you are a completionist .. good luck with this one)

Zombie U

Nintendo Land (great demo use of the gamepad)

eShop - Wii Sports Club (only tennis and bowling are availble at the moment)

If you are into the Wii Fit games, if you buy a Wii Fit meter by 12/31 I think you can still get the Wii Fit U download for free

im pretty sure the white version was discontinued. is that true?

Yeah, I think it might be. I think there are still some on shelves, though.

Dividing a console into 2 different types seemed stupid to me from the get-go.

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought myself one for Xmas as I could get the Zelda edition for a good deal. It seems Nintendo didn't plan for anyone to get them as the online services have been down since yesterday.

In terms of server issues, Nintendo have been experiencing huge demand not just from new devices but from the release of Pokemon Bank in Japan, expect more delays tomorrow when it's released to the rest of the world.

It seems to be only certain things. For example, i'm having trouble getting into the eshop, but miiverse is up and running great.

    • WTF! Nah, not this one. If you were back then using computers in the 90s or you had a clue, you'd know this was huge and was seen and overused absolutely everywhere and you'd take this article as no more than a retrospective story. That's all it is.
    • these "editors" get paid by the amount of articles and not the quality of content; hence why we get this random stuff from the same "editor" time and time again.
    • 256 times the quality of an audio cd? I think audio cd's sound good so even twice as good as that would be something.
    • It’s not about the NOx. It’s about the electrical field.
