Nintendo is soon becoming the latest major console manufacturer to raise prices in the middle of the generation, a trend that has already hit both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The Switch 2 is now slated to go up in price by $50, but this isn't happening immediately.
In a press release, Nintendo announced today that price revisions are hitting Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe, saying the change is happening "in light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook."
In the US, the Switch 2 will go from $449.99 to $499.99. In Canada it's rising from $629.99 to $679.99. Europe will see the €469.99 console being raised to €499.99. These price hikes will be going live on September 1, 2026.
"We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding," added Nintendo.
The price hikes hitting Japan are broader, and they will be going live on July 1 instead. Unlike in other regions, both the Switch 2 Japanese-Language System model and the original Switch (regular, OLED, and Lite) are being affected here. Also, the Nintendo Switch Online service is going up in price too, though this only seems to be focused on Japan right now. The individual and family memberships, including larger monthly packs, are being revised upward. The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack bundle is affected the same way too.
The price changes arrive just as Nintendo announces its latest hardware sales data, which shows the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 19.86 million units so far, just in the one fiscal year since its launch. However, the company says it expects sales to decline in the next fiscal year. Reports say the company is reducing its production of the Switch 2 by a third to meet this lowered demand.
