Picked up a Wii U, this weekend

I'm enjoying Mario 3D world with my 6-year-old.

We are pacing ourselves, not advancing until we find all stars and the stamp on each level.

The level design is incredible. Today, "Beep Block Skyway", the level where the platforms toggle in time with the music, really impressed me.

I have just ordered a WiiU. Said I wasn't going to, but couldn't help myself.

I have ordered the Mario/Luigi Deluxe set and as far as I am aware, you cannot use the gamepad for multiplayer "character play" is this correct?

Does the same apply to Mario 3D world? Can you play a character with the gamepad with 3D world in multiplayer? PLEASE say you can :)

I've ordered a Wii Remote and have another spare just in case.

Yes, in fact some stages require it.

Nice to see more joining the club and the network in demand (Y)

Let's just hope they get it up and running quickly. Apparently they're hiring for a new network architect after the downtime

That's a good sign

Have a Wii U and love it.  The kids have a ton of fun playing it too.  Got Mario U, Luigi U, Mario 3D World, Wind Waker HD, and Wii Party.  Had to get Ducktales Remastered from the eShop as well.  We are looking forward to quite a few games in the coming year - especially Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8.

Thanks for starting this thread fusion. Hope you're enjoying the U, but ouch on that update process. Yeah, PS4 was totally painless, more like logging in to a new device in an existing OS.

As I've decided to order a Wii U white in lieu of getting an X1 due to the latter being unofficially available where I live and therefore friggin expensive, I'm curious. How are Wii U visuals to you guys? I'm a graphics man tho not extreme, and have a beefy PC plus PS4 so Wii U is for novelty plus its affordable now. Just curious to hear what fusion and others think.

Bayonetta 2 defo looking good. BTW I'm largely getting Wii U for spite, since not interested in Nintendo exclusives save Metroid, I'll be the guy that has the console to only play the usual stuff. Might get Watch Dogs for it instead of for PC or PS4

You'll love it!

You were right, I love this game :D

Can't wait for some more game to come out now.

Will probably get Watch dogs for this, I was considering the Xbox One too, but think I'm just going to wait until it's stupidly cheap :)

Last gen I got the Xbox 360 and Wii at pretty much the same time.

The Wii U is amazing though, I love the gamepad :P I can play while in bed haha

considering the ridiculously short range of the Wii U gamepad, I'm guessing your WiiU, TV and bed are in the same room ;)

I think that would be the most obvious conclusion. ;)

Haha Yes :P

It's still great though, mainly when I'm playing I can continue playing when someone forces me off the TV :(

The gamepad's range can go farther than just the room that it's in.

Pretty much no.

Even the next room, through an open door and with very thin walls on either side. Bad connection, even standing in the door it has problems

Will be doing the same post Christmas - picking up a Wii U along with Super Mario 3D world, Lego City and getting Lego Marvel Heros for the gf.

Cant wait for the new Zelda game to get released as well ;)

Well our new Wii U is getting delivered on Monday :D

Glad we waited until after Christmas as the bundles have gotten slightly better:

1) Lego City pack

2) Super Mario 3D World

3) Mario and Sonic and the Sochi Winter Olympics

4) Sports Connection

and we got the Lego Marvel Heros game for Christmas.

Roll on Monday :jump:

Have now bought Nintendo Land (For ?14.99, new) which is coming Monday and will be ordering Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker HD next week.

Cannot wait for a new Zelda game and a new Mario game

Also really not sure whether to pre-order Watch dogs for PC or the Wii U.

If Zelda is anything like this I cannot wait:

    • Looks like the 7.1 is fake effects, can it at least do real 5.1? It says 'virtual 7.1' in all descriptions.
    • You can't, if you didn't notice, it doesn't support surround at all, it's right in the spec list.
    • Hi — I’m always interested in soundcards. Like displays, I just want to know I’m getting as much clean “sonic juice” into my brain as possible as the years take their toll. I’m not entirely sure what to take away from this review, though. It doesn’t really tell me whether the AE‑X is a good product or who it’s actually for. Most of what I’m getting is: there’s a driver to install, here’s what it looks like, and here’s what’s in the box. There’s a lot of emphasis on the SPDIF input. When you mention not needing to switch headphones between console and PC — does that mean the PC has to be powered on just to pass audio through? That seems like a fairly big waste of energy. Is this more something a streamer would use alongside a capture card? How are you testing the sound? (Also, you might want to clarify that you’re using the headphones in wired mode when you mention they’re wireless.) You mention the lack of EMI shielding — how much real‑world difference does that make compared with typical motherboard audio? On multi‑channel: what exactly isn’t supported? Does this mean Windows spatial audio (Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS Headphone:X, etc.) won’t work, or just that the card itself doesn’t decode surround formats? And are there any true multi‑driver “surround” headphones left that would even use that? You also highlight support for high‑impedance headphones — but what does that translate to in practice? How does it compare to driving the same headphones from a normal device, and does it make any difference for everyday, lower‑impedance models? In short, who is this card actually targeted at?
    • Yes, THIS is wordart, not the styling that can now be done. Wordart was all about those curvy words, that you could change the path of, like making words go around a circle. I don't think it can be done now, right?
    • Just saw a news report of a Waymo driving into a flooded road.
