Picked up a Wii U, this weekend

Recommended Posts

Congrats, can't decide if I want an X1 or Wii U more...honestly shouldn't spend the money right now anyway haha!

I always thought about it this way:

If you want to play Nintendo exclusives - Wii U

If you aren't bothered about the Nintendo exclusives - X1/PS4

I wanted to play Nintendo Exclusives, especially Zelda and HOPEFULLY a new Mario game, so I had no second thoughts about a Wii U.

For games that aren't coming to the Wii U most of them do eventually come to the PC and I have a pretty capable PC so I shall get those games for the PC :)

At the moment, it looks like only Ubisoft have taken an interest in the Wii U and the games from them are actually quite good ports, everybody else (EA) have terrible ports from what I have seen.

The Indie side of the Wii U looks promising and from what I can see you can get a dev kit from Nintendo at very low cost, don't hold me to this but I think you may even be able to pick one up for free if you are a dev and can prove it.

Pretty much no.

Even the next room, through an open door and with very thin walls on either side. Bad connection, even standing in the door it has problems

must be your particular room. i have my Wii U in the basement and i can play the console from the 1st floor. i know it wont work on the 2nd floor, though.

Thanks Kibos, your advice is very sound. People that want Nintendo games, well the Wii U is a must buy. I'm not one of those, and while from what I've seen the Wii U is an very good multi plat machine, the X1 will be a better complement to a PC/PS4 setup. As you said, if people only want to choose one general gaming device, then PC is the best choice as it is the most versatile by default.

I had a WiiU, sold it for the money towards my One & PS4 combo.

I have to admit I was missing my first party Nintendo titles, so I recently picked up a 3DS XL on sale for $150.

I think I can honestly say I enjoy it much more than I did the WiiU.

Nintendo games on the go is awesome.

Currently playing the new Zelda, Mario Kart, and NSMB2. and just ordered Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D from Amazon along with a case.

So I now have my 1st Party Nintendo Fix but in the form of a handheld, and seems to be working out (for now) incredibly well.

Maybe in a few years when the WiiU is below $200 I will visit it again.

My main reason for picking a WiiU up initially was I was super excited to be able to play it before I went to bed (it's the little things), and due to the aforementioned horrible range on the GamePad, even though my bedroom was upstairs directly above my TV room, and I mean directly, my bed is pretty much on top of the TV, the GamePad did not work consistently at all. The 3DS sure does though!

Thanks for the feedback Larry! Yes, in an ideal world where money's no issue we'd have all three devices, but right now it's best to keep a balance between enjoying the hobby and the bank. So indeed PS4 and X1, will also wait for Wii U to become more affordable. Have to see really want to play ZombiU!

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
