NEW YORK (AP) -- Pizza Hut plans to start offering pizza by the slice for the first time in two locations this week, part of a test to refashion its image and court diners in their 20s and 30s.

The chain says the two locations ? one in York, Nebraska and Pawtucket, R.I. ? will open Tuesday.

A slice will cost between $2 and $3   and take three to four minutes to heat up. They'll be made with new recipes more in line with the thinner pies sold in the Northeast.

The tests reflect how established restaurant chains are scrambling to keep pace with a rapidly changing industry. Diners are increasingly flocking to places such as Chipotle, where they feel they can get restaurant-quality food for just a little more than they would pay at fast-food chains such as Burger King.

Litchenburg says the Pizza Hut test locations will be equipped new ovens to heat up the slices, but they'll also have the traditional ovens to cook other pies.

He said the company, which is based in Plano, Texas and has 6,400 U.S. locations, will test variations of the concept throughout the year before deciding how to proceed.

2-3 bucks for a slice?  Yea, that is going to do well  depending on a size considering a personal pan pizza starts at $4.

$4? Damn. Pizza Hut is the biggest ripoff there is in Belgium. A small one is at least ?12 (usually around ?15) and large ones are all over ?20. Other pizza places charge about ?6 for a large one.

Hello,

You can buy an entire pizza for a cheaper price from the supermarket, so why would anyone pay $3 for a single slice? :/

You never buy food at a restaurant. You always buy the preparation, cooking and serving of the food. NEVER forget that...

In that case, the slice price should be lowered.  Its not like Pizza Hut is fine dining.  My nieces/nephews make better pizza from ingredients bought at the store.

I think pizza cake sounds better...

Hmmmm.... Pizza caaaaake /HomerDrool ;)

Last time I was in the states I tried all the fast food which had confusing names to me to see what it was. Was disappointed to find Pizza Pie was not a pizza with a pie crust on top. And Cheese Steak is a kebab with melted cheese. :(

their pizza is not worth $2 or $3 a slice. I lvie on long island. A suburb of NYC we have some of the best pizza in the USA. I can get a mom and pop pizza slice that is twice the size for $1.50 - $3 depending on the place. why would I buy a smaller worse tasting slice at pizza hut for the same or more?

    • It's expensive, but I bet it will still sell out just like the Steam Deck and the Steam Controller
    • This is listed as a preview in WU for me. I usually don't grab them as previews; what's your opinion on it so far?
