Not a major thing, but I noticed that the playlist doesn't scroll as songs are played.  Any chance to get the list to scroll down as songs are played?

Have you activated the feature "Follow song" in the Settings -> Features screen?

Build 211 is available as usual here.

It adds the light theme and an option to follow the windows color for the dark and light theme.

It also fixes a nasty tag saving bug. If you haven't experienced an infinite closing loop, you haven't experienced the bug :)

App would not launch after installing Build 211, it would hang on the splash screen.

A repair install didn't fix it.

Removing first, then reinstalling did fixed the problem (Y)

It was probably upgrading your library structure after changes since the last build you had installed. Depending on the amount of files in your collection that can take a while. There is no indication to the user though what musiX is doing at that time. I'll have to improve that.

Good to hear a clean install fixed it though.

Only a very small part of my collection is indexed at the moment (1135 files), but I suppose I wasn't very patient

You have to manually restart the app for theme changes to take effect?

Would be nice if the change was instant. If not, then an Apply button would be ok.

For the moment yes, because the color resources are loaded at startup. But that might improve in the future.

Hello everyone,

Build 216 is available here. This is a maintenance build (no new features, just fixes and fine-tuning). These are the changes:

- Fixed a bug when sorting by artist

- Fine-tuned the light theme

- Improved error messages (added more specific errors instead of just one general error message)

- Better collection management (in the xml, not visible to the user)

- Added a notification when the collection is being upgraded at startup (so now it won't hang on the splash screen anymore when upgrading the collection takes a long time)

This build upgrades your collection on the first startup due to small changes in the main xml file.

If you install an update while the app is running, the installer will offer to close and restart it for you.

It does close the app and complete the installation, but it does not launch the app for you once it's finished.

Not big deal at all, just thought I'd mention it.

Edit: "upgrading your collection" doesn't sound right. "re-scanning" or something along those lines would be more accurate, I think.

Why does it need to be re-scanned again anyway? If I point it to my full collection, I can imagine this taking quite a while.

Edit 2: When sorting by Album or Year, I think those things should be the prominent heading in the list, where at the moment, it keeps the same layout as if you were sorting by Artist. (hope that made sense)

Oops never tried installing an update while already running. I'll check if that's something I can do anything about.

Upgrades of the collection occur when musix.xml has structural changes (for example, extra fields in the xml, which are required due to new functionality which was added in the new build, or improvements to the xml because I have learned new things :)) compared to the build you have installed. Without automatic upgrade, musiX would crash when trying to access the outdated xml. Once the major features are implemented, and the final xml structure is defined, upgrades won't be necessary anymore.

I actually had 2 options concerning xml changes:

Option 1: force my users to delete their collection before installing an upgrade and restart from scratch (not user friendly)

Option 2: automatic upgrade of the collection xml (more user friendly, but you have to wait for the upgrade to finish)

Your "Edit 2" makes a lot of sense and sound like a nice idea. I'll try something out :)

A totally automated update process would be cool, but I suppose there are more important things to deal with first :)

The collection updating makes sense now, thanks for pointing that out.

Hope you don't mind me nit-picking, I think what you are doing is great (Y)

That's not nit-picking. I can't think of everything, and that's where your or user feedback is priceless. Also, most ideas and requests have been pushing the boundaries of my knowledge a little further each time. That's really good :)

You're developing this at a remarkable speed. Imagine what a company with a handful of you's could achieve!

How does this handle libraries with 20,000+ songs? I suppose I'll try but I don't have a Windows machine available yet. Might convert one tonight just for this! Clone thyself and write a Mac version!  :woot:

Great program! Thank you for coding it.

Now I've just begun using my Windows 8 PC and right away took musiX to heart. Now I'm in the situation that all tracks that I have taken out directly from my iTunes library which appear correctly as being on seperate albums in iTunes doesn't appear as being on the second album for example within musiX.

For instance I have an album from Miss Kittin that has is purchased in iTunes but has tracknames like "2-02 Cosmic Love Radiation.m4a" and so forth. This track comes right after the 2nd track on the first album.

How can this be done better? Is there a way around it while still keeping my iTunes installation as is?

Edit:

I think I have got it all wrong. The track mentioned comes before the actual second track on the first album. I've seen similar behaviour within the Music application on Windows 8. Sorry about the confusion and poor explanation on my part.

musiX doesn't take the "Disc" tag into account yet. These track probably have the same album name but a different disc number. MusiX doesn't understand that and just puts all these track under the same album header. Could you verify in Itunes is the disc tags for these albums have values?

I've been meaning to add disc tag support, but forgot about it. I'll plan it for the next build.

Haha thank a lot! :)

I have no idea how it would react to that amunt of songs (I've tested with 6000+ only). Please let me know how it goes.

    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.

    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.
