Neowin Uptime Project Group

Recommended Posts

heh im technosexual

btw it is possible to cheat. if i had a spare box around here i could throw it up with win98 and in a few hrs could have it up to almost a year of uptime. and not by spoofing the packet(s). i figure its possible in 2k/xp as well

edit: nice. now im not the only non windows os on there

Yeah - I thought that if there was a way, that it'd probably be a Windows flaw. Also - I heard once that there was a set number of days that pre-2000 vers of Windows would automatically reboot in - is that true?

hasn't XP been around for that long?

Look on the timeline scale down the right hand side of the page. It shows when beta, interim and gold versions were released:

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/windowsxp_gold.asp

The official release data according to that timescale was Oct 2001 which is 2 years and almost 3 months ago.

797 days = 2 years and 67 days as of posting right now so it is possible for "Killerjockel" to of had a proper version of XP running all this time

who's Zio-ND?

i havent created a league in the uptime project, but is there a way to kick non-Neowin users?? Cause if this guy is not a neowinian....he's just stealing our first place!!

Even if he wasn't a member (which he is as Snippet1 has pointed out) he is HELPING us go up the group charts with his long uptime. (it's not just about individual performances within the NW group, it's about overall and how we can beat other teams collectively.) :ninja:

hey guys, it was me that was talking about spoofing the packets. It is actually quite hard as they have some sort of key that you have to generate. The example of the data that it sends is:

POST /?username=adrian HTTP/1.0
Connection: keep-alive
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
Content-Length: 205
Host: uptimeserv.0rD.net
Accept: text/html, */*
User-Agent: Uptime Client++ v0.19beta

username=<USERNAME>&passwort=<PASSWORD>&key=d3616af65dca0b7f0438e1ad32a9eb02&uptime=79285&os=Windows+XP&sp=1&build=2600&version=19&mac=g1d4e704e4F3321d1b0246408ebe528c&machash=03fc7h2efa3853751952d9b1akd31cd8&

Im guessing the password key is probably encripted in SHA format? It cant be MD5 or it would be all caps.

but Adrian, you said you actually managed to spoof the packet and cheat the system the first time....and that then you couldnt get the client to update the uptime? right?

i would agree with you timko......but there's no way we're going up the charts with all those 0d Xm people in the league. someone said somewhere back in this thread that it was jsut for fun now, since there wasnt really a way to climb up on the leagues chart.....so since it was for fun now i thought we could compete between us, for FUN. nothing else. :laugh:

I hate ATI's incompatibilities...grr

Say what you will about nvidia, but I never had any problems with their hardware. My stupid Radeon 9700 is apparently incompatible with the 875p chipset, and their DVD player is bug-ridden.

It's not quite off topic, look at my uptime...and guess why I had to reboot.

,Jan 6 2004, 18:00] Heh, that's where I pinched the gfx from in the first place... when you had the Panther skin in your sig before you changed it about a week ago :)

HeHe.. I rotate the skins on a regular basis.. but you can always use any of the skins that are there..

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
    • I agree with both of you... It's absolutely imperative that science is completely based on actual proven facts and hard evidence and is not considered dogmatic in any way. Science is not a religion and it will never be, and that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
