....where are you trying to extract the file? just to a temp folder

do you have NTFS permission to write to that directory? dont have NTFS just fat32? does it have to be NTFS ?

I do have the DEC full, but after applying the Jan-update it just corrupts the autopatcher files... gives an error saying missing file then aborts, without any error message.

And the Jan full ive been trying to d/l, completes OK, but is full of errors...

Edited by pakrat

nope thats where all the errors are... over 300+ of them, most seem to be in the progfiles dir. but 7-zip wont let you copy the list of errors, so i could paste them all here...

have tried every site thats still up, including the bit torrent links as well...

dont know what else to try...

Well..... it has to be something... either the HD is going, or a COMPLETE reinstall of XP+sp1a is needed..

Just extracted it on another system, FINALLY without any errors.

Now i just have to extract the files from the jan-patch to it and i'll be all set...

thanks for all the help, suggestions...

Will be a good time for an image before the initial update, just incase of any problems.

Because newer hotfixes have the latest copy of the files in those redundant hotfixes.

I seem to recall repeatly telling you to get rid of 329256, but you never listen. I'm disappointed

;) :D

Did you?? And can you help a bit more... what other hotfixes contain newer version (just so I don't have to dig)? :)

I only went through the critical updates list (I'm going to make unattended XP crap), i'll go thru the recommended updates section and post back.

OE/IE/WMP patch list is A-OK

Thanks, yeah, please hook me up w/ the Crit and Rec (which hotfix I can remove because which hotfix has newer files). If I could get rid of some of the size, that would be great. :D

guys, I've installed autpatcher several times on xp with sp1 slipstreamed and everything is ok... but I have a few questions:

DCOM was still available, and I got the blaster virus.. shouldn't autopatcher have the patch for that? DCOM is only disabled after I run a windowsupdate post autopatcher.. which makes me wonder... If autopatcher is from January... why do I still get about 15 critical updates on windowsupdate? ... some from about April...

Thanks for any replies :D

That fix is in the AutoPatcher, it's in the Update Rollup... unless you didn't install it... then it's possible to get the virus.... judgin' by your post, I assume you have the Jan release and you need to run this: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=135553

    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
