Up to 20k citizens now and everythings running smoothly. Need to re-do bus/train networks at some point tho.

Have a formula to expand now, think 1st few citys i just hadnt got things ticking over effectively enough. Tho this time I cant not make money unless I do something crazy.

Going for a green city aswell, LOTS of parks :p

My first city lasted about 5 minutes, I put my sewage drain down and forgot to hook it up to power. Before I knew it everyone was leaving because of the sewage, I was loosing so much money I couldn't fix the issue and loans weren't unlocked!

Got off to a slightly better start next time around, got around 4k citizens but the pace of the game took me by surprise. I thought there would be a lot of sitting and waiting for cash to build but if your not constantly improving and expanding then people start to leave and your loosing money again.

Still too early to bother showing anything but enjoying it so far.

My city has completely stalled @ 200k and has dropped down to 190k. Everyone seems happy. Fire, Crime, Medical, Schooling, Parks, Everything all good.

Just very little demand for anything. RCI doesn't seem to budge anymore. Not sure what to do!

Only thing i can see is traffic noise in some areas, but in order to fix that i have to destroy roads, which removes the houses/businesses, which doesn't help.

My latest. I haven't played for the better part of a month, partly because this city started having problems shortly after I began expanding past the original chunk on the right side.

Lol @ Farmville.

Aye, this happened to me, though my city is around 47ishk goes up and down from 45. Traffic is eating at businesses, dead aren't getting picked up. I've upgraded various roads  using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy_of_roads  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_hierarchy   But for the life of me, I can't figure out what to do with the thousands of garbage trucks

I want to try rebuilding something ala:

However trying to keep as "real" as possible, how many times in a lifetime do houses/roads get rebuilt?

Anyone know of any other specific types of city designs? Paris below is called a "spiral", then we all know "grid"

Will post my own screen shot in a bit.

did this increase dam throughput?

I'd have to check, I already gave up on that city cause it was with unlimited money (and I decided to just delete the dams and see what happened).

As for the traffic that's a tough one. There's a delicate balance to be had between alternate routes and too many intersections in proximity (the more often vehicles stop, the more traffic that results).

The only efficient way i've found of handling traffic is one way's.  While stop lights don't hurt i dislike ANY traffic at all

I can't believe how much time I've put into this game already. My city is now up to a population of 150,000 and money isn't an issue (over $6m in the bank). However, I definitely advise saving regularly as even relatively small changes can cause chain reactions that can collapse your city. The road system is a challenge but there is definitely some logic behind it. When you isolate and address problems it's really satisfying.

I'd played a few of the earlier games in the series and while they had potential they just weren't fun to play. This game, on the otherhand, is seriously addictive. This is the follow up to SimCity 3000 I was waiting for.

This pretty much nails it. Most traffic issues I've seen are addressable if you think about it properly. Some of the issues of traffic only using one lane could be caused by a left or right lane turn congestion. With how easy the game actually is to be running in the positive, I think the traffic is a needed obstacle given it's not actually bugged.

Creating metro, bus, and train lines needs some work though. With as many as you end up making, there is no way to pick out one line and edit it. You can't tell one line from the 5 ones right on top of it.

I agree, though it would be nice to be able to see traffic flows in order to help determine where improvements could be made. Even a small mistake with the road system can lead to a build up of dead bodies, followed by properties being abandoned and the city collapsing.

If you click on a bus you can edit the colour of the line (the bus changes colour as well), which allows you to quickly tell each route apart. I haven't found any centralised option for bus lines though, which would make it a lot easier.

I bought the game less than a week ago and I've already put in 37hrs. It's like Civilization, where you completely lose track of the game and suddenly you look up and it's been eight hours (I'm not kidding!). This video inspired me to start a new city and experiment with some more creative designs:

PS - I noticed that it's the 12th most played game on Steam.

tunnels?

Yup, that's what it looks like.

They also tweeted this earlier:

The only thing in that screenshot that would be awesome to have in the game that isn't there now is the tunnels, so that's gotta be what it is.
