OK per this thread and a reply from an actual Microsoft Employee - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/cant-activate-in-preview-build-10162-even-change/6cc99621-6108-4161-a770-5da4138cbeff?auth=1

So I am going to just carry on as usual.

EDIT: Mine is now activated, it must have done it on it's own. So everyone else having an issue check your system properties.

Thanks for the heads up, mate! ;)

I think this is how it will work:

The "get windows 10" upgrade app (or by some other method) will send and store motherboard and other pc components serial numbers to microsoft servers. When you install windows 10, it will gather/check these serial numbers from microsoft servers. If it finds them then it won't ask for any key and activates windows automatically and you can use windows 10.

Yeah I know, I just wish they had a verification system so that I don't have to erase Windows 10, reinstall Windows 8.1, then do an upgrade.

If you originally had Windows 8.1 and upgraded to the preview, then stop the Insider Preview and go to RTM your Windows 8.1 activation will remain intact.

Using Intel Driver Update Utility, I noticed that there was a new graphic driver for my CPU, which is a Pentium G3220. I downloaded the driver, begun the install process, but after it was "completed", there was a bunch of error. I rebooted the PC and I still have the old driver, according to Device Manager.

Why the hell in neither the Edge browser or the new photos app can I right frikkin click and set as desktop? WTF!

Could be, "It's a work in progress, we wanted to get the base app and most basic features out to testers and we'll add the extras later," or it could be, "These are basic apps, you're meant to seek out better ones of your choice to make your computer personal to you." If it's the latter, I recommend XnView. I've been jaded to Microsoft's attempts at photo viewers since MS Photo Editor from Office XP got discontinued. I loved that program. They replaced it with crap.

You know, for some reason, I think Microsoft likes developing crap, featureless Music apps. The Music app in Windows 10 is nothing more than a giant sadness.   :/

Legal issues, they can't make it too extended. However, I think it's a fine app.

Yeah that is one way to go. However, I did a clean install a couple builds ago to try and fix an issue. Are you saying that I can clean install Windows 8.1 right now, upgrade to IP, wait until the 29th, get RTM, then just stop IP? In other words, as long as I upgrade from 8 to an IP build I won't have to revert back to 8 when 10 is released?

They'll get the music app to match and ultimately replace WMP, in time, other things are of greater importance at this point in time, mainly the OS.  The apps will be updated throughout the life of Windows 10, only question is how fast.

Also WMP is pretty much done, as are any other core win32 apps that they'll start to replace, heck, if you went to the trouble of replacing calculator of all things, then WMP getting the axe later on is a given.

Companies that build apps that are a replacement of build-in apps tend to be rather agresive if Microsoft includes its own apps in their own software, hence the N, K and E editions of Windows.

That's not really an excuse to ship featureless products.

The only thing is that the Music app has largely gone unchanged since the start of the Insider's Program. It's still missing the features everyone asked for, and still suffers all the same issues which made the 8.1 app a laughing stock.

Have you actually used it?  It's streets ahead of the 8.1 app.

Like I said, the OS and other things take top right now, once they hit RTM then the apps can be quickly worked on, now that the new API changes are locked as well.

Lets stop kidding ourselves. That will NEVER happen.

An OS is useless without a good out of the box experience.

I hope in the future that they do get the music app as good as WMP......which works real well for me...been using it for a long time and am comfortable with it...I would use the app when it get's as good as WMP. I know some hate it but I really like it...Cheers

Lol what.. legal issues?

I think he means anti-competitive like the difficulties they've had in the past with IE, although in the past they got in trouble for having IE as the default browser without offering a choice, you could say they have a similar problem with media playing applications in the OS (both Video and Music)

    • "Revelation?" I was hoping for this episode to be called "Reunion". Oh, well... In a related note, the Final Fantasy VII compilation has received an EC entry, short for Ever Crisis. For those who don't know, it already had AC, BC, CC, and DC entries, short for Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. I hope it doesn't get an FC entry becaude that would be a freakin' crisis.
    • Uh, after intense testing now, 'Samsung Browser' is not the best one outside of 'Microsoft Edge' after all. Opera Air is that. It has "some" bloat, but it's far less than what both Microsoft Edge and Brave browser have.
