I don't know if this has been posted before, but as you can see in the shot below Google has fixed the UI for Chrome in Windows 10. The ugly and uneven border is gone, everything looks fine in the Canary build, which is the most advanced of the 4 release channels. I honestly didn't try the beta or the dev channels (more conservative and stable) (update: just tried the beta, still no Windows 10 UI fix), but since the Canary is a parallel profile you can install it without overwriting the actual Chrome stable profile and installation folder.

Here you can see Stable channel vs the Canary. BTW, Canary for me seems pretty solid. No bugs or glitch for now.

I think it's time for Google to drop this Windows 7 look, and go for something more flat and modern like the tabbed UI used on Android:

How can i stop the Mail app in build 10162 being synced with my outlook account, as i have a password set for my office outlook so it pops up a password box all the time, i need to turn off syncing or delete this account from the app as i don't use it although it already says syncing is off, but i can't get anything to work?

Turned the settings for syncing on and then off again and saved so i hope that fixes it.

Still can't turn OFF syncing or delete the email account, even though syncing is turned off already according to the button.

I am a Windows Insider so if I download the Windows 10 Build 10162 ISO and do an upgrade over my "genuine" Windows 7 SP1 Pro computer will it automatically be upgraded from insider preview to RTM on July 29?

I'm pretty sure this has been covered but yes, if you have it set to reserve your copy, it'll download the files and then ask you if you want to upgrade to the RTM when the time comes.  I'm guessing your pc came with 7 Pro pre-installed right?  If that's the case your 7 key/license is in the bios/uefi, you'll get RTM without issue.

I was told this is NOT the case. I was told you need to be running 7/8 in order to qualify for the free upgrade. The exception I think being if you want to continue being an insider.

He's starting from 7 Pro SP1, upgrading to the preview and then upgrading to RTM, as far as I know it'll work fine.  If people are still not sure when the time comes then just wait a few days, all of these processes will be tested and retested by others for you.

Yeah similar to me. I'm starting from 8.1, upgrading to TP, then waiting for RTM. I was told that in order to get the free upgrade, you have to be actually running the OS you are upgrading (7/8). So, we would have to remove the TP from our computers and be running 7 or 8 in order to upgrade. If you decide to remain an insider, then you can just stay on 10 and get the RTM without having to revert to the previous OS. This is what I might just do.

Volume license keys and such won't be valid for upgrade, Technet keys count as this, sorta. depends on how well their system differentiates keys.

Yeah that does make sense I suppose. Technically, the Technet keys are for testing/developing purposes and not for every day OS. However, I was a Technet member for many years and I think the last OS I purchased was XP. I really hope I don't have to buy an OS after all the money I put into Technet. I suppose I can just upgrade and remain an insider and just not worry about it?

EDIT: Saw this browsing around: "In order to qualify for the free upgrade, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 with Update 1 must be installed and running. "

I want to put Windows 10 on my main i7 920 4 monitor workstation, I also want to clean install it but god, I don't want to have to reinstall everything. That is why that system only gets clean installed when major versions of Windows get released

I only clean install once every 3 years (Or when ever the next version of Windows is released)

I prefer to clean install major versions too. I don't really care for this system of having to upgrade and then clean install later but I get why they did it that way.

I understand that but you must upgrade to 10 from 7 or 8.x in order to have a free offer.  After that, you can do the clean install so your computer and windows data are stored in MS server ... that way, you can do clean install anytime as long as the data is matched between your device and the MS server. If not matched, the windows will ask you to enter new key in order to activate.

Yeah not only is it dumb that we can't change it, but what kind of idiot do they have in charge of UI design? Making windows all white regardless of active state? For such a huge company, you'd think they would dedicate a team to making a nice UI like they did with Aero.

EDIT: And I love the black Edge theme. It would be nice to have that a system wide option. Still that theme needs to differentiate active and inactive windows.

A: Evidently that team thought that white on white was interesting.  Keep feedback coming on this via the feedback channels.

B1: "dark" theme: If you go too dark you start washing out title bar elements.  Just something to bear in mind here.

B2: differentiation: Most definitely.

Right now, inactive windows are noted by: 1px border changing from [accent color] to gray/white, and the title bar text and widgets changing from black to gray/white. I also believe the drop shadow lightens a bit, but I'm not sure. It's not very obvious, but noticeable. Obviously, having a title bar of a color other than white would make the inactive state more obvious. (And, of course, the taskbar buttons also change visually, too.)

Yep, plus inactive border is also blurred to background instead of solid color.

Never heard of this. Technet keys are retail keys, not volume license keys. Only MAK/KMS is volume license. Technet did offer MAK keys, but it was for Enterprise editions only, so if you used Standard, Pro or Ultimate as as your 7/8.x install you are using a retail key,

If you used a Technet key that was a retail key and not the MAK key (WIndows 7/8.x Enterprise only) it should be fine.

So are keeping syspreped version of WIndows on SSD's :D  .. current to the last month :)

So it's the windows install and updates I don't mind. It's all of the apps I use and to configure windows just the way I like it,. Which isn't so bad because after I get it how I like it, I image it to a spare 500GB 2.5 inch drive I have for each computer.

Kind of off-topic, but I remember you posting a sysprep guide some time ago.

Can you post (or pm) a link? Search is pretty useless on this (and most) website.

Many thanks.

in this case google

If you search sysprep warwagon on neowin you get the x-files, a broccoli joke and pretty much everything else that has nothing to do with sysprep

Good, Chrome looks ugly just now. Hope it hits dev soon.

    • Microsoft making much needed change to Windows 11, 10 Patch Tuesday security updates by Sayan Sen Recently, Microsoft delivered its latest Defender patches for Windows 11 ISOs. These definitions are released from time to time alongside the general security updates available during Patch Tuesday. Speaking of Defender, the company has now announced another important change that affects how security updates are delivered to enterprise devices running Windows. According to a recent announcement, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's endpoint detection and response (EDR) updates will no longer be bundled with the monthly Windows security updates or Patch Tuesdays. Instead the company is shifting delivery of these updates to Microsoft Update, bringing EDR servicing in line with several other Microsoft Defender components. If you recall, Microsoft last year moved PowerShell updates to Microsoft Update (MU) as well since it provides automatic updates for Microsoft products and services. Thus the move is intended to allow Microsoft to deliver EDR improvements and security enhancements independently of the OS's regular monthly update cycle; this should enable faster deployment of protection updates without requiring organizations to wait for the next Patch release. For those unfamiliar, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's EDR capabilities are designed to help organizations detect, investigate, and respond to advanced threats across managed devices. Keeping these components updated is critical for maintaining protection against evolving attack techniques. The rollout has already began for Windows 10 devices in late May 2026 (last month) and Microsoft says it will gradually expand support to Windows 11 and the remaining supported Windows versions over the coming months. The company expects deployment across Windows 10 and Windows 11 to be completed by fall 2026 or around Q3 of this year. Once the transition is complete, EDR updates will be delivered through Microsoft Update using KB5005292, provided the required prerequisite updates have already been installed. Microsoft is also introducing a new Defender Update Service as part of the change. Following installation of the first update, devices will automatically create a new directory located at %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Microsoft Defender\Defender Update. Microsoft notes that restarts may occasionally be necessary in case of "rare" failure scenarios. For most organizations, the tech giant says no action will be required as long as Microsoft Update is already permitted within their update management strategy. Admins who rely on manually deployed update packages, however, will need to adjust their processes to ensure the new Defender update package is included. Microsoft also recommends reviewing internal documentation and notifying helpdesk and security operations teams about the updated delivery mechanism to avoid confusion during the transition. As a prerequisite, the tech giant notes that systems must be running Sense version 10.8798.25857.1000 or later and have one of the following Windows updates (or later) installed: Win11 24H2 KB5062660 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 23H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 22H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 22H2 KB5062649 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 1809 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2019 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2022 KB5063880 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2025 KB5063878 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) As always, organizations should verify that their update policies align with the new servicing approach before the broader rollout reaches all supported Windows platforms later this year. In case of major problems, the EDR update can be rolled back to the inbox version stored in %ProgramFiles%\\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) using: MpCmdRun.exe -RevertMde -Product Edr -ToVersion Inbox For those who have access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal, you can view the message here under ID MC1381119.
    • My problem with these smart scopes is that IMO they're not really an entrance into astronomy, they're an entrance to looking at pretty(ish) pictures that you take by essentially pressing a button and letting the scope do the work. I still maintain that getting some binoculars or a solid dedicated telescope (which doesn't have to mean expensive) and actually spending time learning the night sky and using a telescope is a much better way to actually learn. But, granted, the learning curve is a bit steeper (as it tends to be).
    • I never played Crazy Taxi before, but this looks like a fun game!
    • The perception of Microsoft Edge is unfortunate as it's a world class browser. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best browser I've ever used with its feature set, speed, reliability and advanced security. Running the extension Ublock Origin is a must though to deal with advertising and trackers.
