I really enjoyed both episodes and I’m excited for where it’s going.

Does anyone else think the Discovery is going to be some sort of Black Ops (S31) or temporal ship?

I was thinking that as well the way it ended. I do like how it was more movie like in look as well as duration. I wonder if it will be 2,3 parters like the did with Enterprise season 4.

They also cover the Klingon mutations in cold station episodes that season.(mentioned earlier)

That's the thing, the klingons have looked different and been changed before, so changing them now for Discovery somehow has "fans" up in arms, it's laughable.    The thing is, though I can't find a source atm, it is said that the klingons in TOS look more human because of genetic modifications, maybe a way to blend in during this war for spying and so on?  I don't remember where it's brought up though.  Anyways, them in TNG is probably the look you get when they've tried to undo the genetic changes from TOS and go back to their original look that we're probably seeing now in Discovery since it's set in the past?     This is a war and I expect a number of klingon houses/clans etc to be lost by the time it's over.   So when we finally get to the klingons we know in the later trek movies and TNG we're down to only a few types that mostly look the same.

I am not upset about it at all.  Just want to know the full story.  I just don't remember it fully explained.  Just hope they explain it this time....or explain it better.

I am rather upset with the whole CBS access streaming.

I enjoyed the two episodes, but I already pay for Xfinity, too much, and Netflix. Enough is enough. The fact that it's on Netflix in other countries is nothing more than an insult. I would gladly watch it, but I'm not paying EXTRA for it.

And to me the Klingons have been made into space orcs now.

didn't they keep saying something like the federation want to mix with them or something like that.. maybe i was reading into it too much but i thought that they where referring to the story in enterprise where Soong created that virus and made them more human looking and now they're kinda getting back to looking more klingon..

Ahh, ok.  I did not finish enterprise.  Guess I need to go back and do so.

I just watched the first episode. Overall it's enjoyable and I'll keep watching. I'm not sure I agree with the Klingons and how they look now; they'd be quite suited for Middle Earth. Not sure about the hologram communications either, it doesn't really fit.

I'd jump right in to episode 2, but work calls... :(

Yeah I'll admit I only found out that it wasn't on Netflix in the US earlier today, and it seems like a bit of a d*ck move for US watchers.

I wouldn't want to pay $10 a month just to watch this show, so what can you do? Pay $10 right at the end when all the episodes come out and binge it? Hope that no one spoils it in the meantime?

It worked in TNG, DS9, and in Enterprise when the TOS sets were re-built. Not sure why it wouldn't work on Discovery.

A 30 second clip for Scotty in TNG and a mirror universe episode or two in ENT is entirely different than having to look at that set for the duration of a series. DS9 tribbles episode was a homage to retro throwback for anniversary.  Being a purist really is getting old... no pun intended. Tech advances... for a show set in the future, I want it to look like the future... not some retro 60s throwback set that literally is outdated by today's tech... it'd be so cheesy. Same thing with makeup.

I plan to just skip it.

If they don't want me as a viewer, so be it. There's plenty of SciFi out there.

No different than a show ending up on a premium channel like HBO or Showtime... HBO go is thriving, and just as All Access gains more exclusive material, so will it. Cable is going the way of the dino, CBS is ensuring it won't end up like blockbuster. I'm betting everything will be streaming in a decade or so, that or cable companies will have packages that contain all these new streaming services.

Get with the times, otherwise you'll really have no shows to watch except your local news and re-runs.

Well, so far, I have no opinion, as I've only seen the 2 episodes available to me right now, I would have liked Michelle to have lived, but hey.

As much as I'd have liked her to stay, I doubt they could afford her for more than a few eps.  We may yet see her again in flashback episodes, but that's likely to be very rare.

New shows don't usually get the big big budgets until season 3 or so, after they've proved themselves.

I kinda get his point, I have a Netflix and an Amazon Video sub alongside others, I get it's a sign of the times, and shows are funded by relevant streams. But the cost has a habit of getting out of hand if left unchecked, and for the sake of waiting, there might be a chance it'll be picked up by mainstream.

True, I was just wishing, as I grew up on eastern philosophy/combat/action movies, and her method of getting rescued in the pilot episode, was something that triggered some old, fond memories.

Didn't Klingons steal the cloaking tech after stealing an old warbird, and reverse engineer it?

Don't recall that ever happening. The reason for the Romulan/Klingon collaboration in TOS was to allow reuse of the Klingon battle cruiser rather than having to design build and shot a new model for a Romulan ship

A rough summary is that the Klingons attempted to copy human genetic augmentation experiments by using Augment DNA on some volunteers (from an Enterprise story arc).  One of the volunteers had a flu virus which mutated and resulted in a genetic plague that threatened to wipe them out.  They kidnapped Dr Phlox to force him to find a cure, and he eventually did, but it had the side effect of destroying their ridges, making them look human in appearance.

It's a time of "great shame" to the Klingon Empire, and so as Worf said, they don't talk about it to outsiders. :p

Just remembered 'something', I could be mistaken, not sure.

Thanks for the history lesson.  (Y)

This is a real comment? Get with the times? How are you comparing HBO/Showtime to this CBS all-access crap? I ALREADY PAY FOR CABLE AND GET CBS. I want HBO/Showtime I will pay extra for that but it's a whole network of high quality original content. Who in their right mind is going to pay a monthly fee for basically for one show? My options is to wait until the season is done and buy the whole series or watch now via other means.

Typical bating from you, not surprised whatsoever.

CBS all access is using Discovery as a launching point, and already have multiple projects in the works to add to the service. Not sure where you're getting the idea that Discovery is the only thing available on the service, nor will it be the only exclusive content on the service.

Try harder next time. (Y)

You try harder writing something that makes sense. You have a habit of not doing that so you get the responses you get. You really think I should start paying monthly now and wait for more content later? #facepalm AGAIN, I ALREADY PAY FOR CABLE AND CBS (AND NETFLIX AND UFC.TV) These media companies all seem to think we all want to pay separately for their content. I thought the future was 500 channels not 500 different monthly billed accounts.

I'm not sure how many other ways I can rehash what I said... it's not on me to make you understand after the first few posts. I'm not the one that seems to have problems making sense of something.

You don't pay for CBS all access though, so not sure what you're getting at with paying for cable, unless of course somehow your cable company has packages that include all-access. Which "again", I've stated will probably be the way of future, as broadcast companies move to the CBS all access method. Fox is already doing this. So is NBC. I also believe ABC might as well. Disney too. etc etc etc. Should you get access to Disney streaming services, because you pay a cable bill that includes the Disney channel? You're comparing Apples to Oranges. It's an entirely different service. You can't get Discovery on cable or local CBS affiliate. Just because it's got CBS in the name doesn't some how make you entitled to get it because you're already paying for cable. That's like saying you want everything FX has to offer because you already pay for FOX on a basic cable package, or again, see Disney arugment.

Btw, have a Snickers. You need it. #facepalm.

I guess I'm behind the times.  CBS All Access is where to view ST Discovery?  And for the commercial free it's $99/year with a 2 day free trial?  The only thing on CBS All Access of interest to me would be ST Discovery, I couldn't care less about their other programming.

No thanks, I have been a Star Trek fan since the watching TOS when it was first broadcast.  TOS was an inspiration for me as a young soon-to-be teenager and I have continued to enjoy the Trek universe.  I'll probably wait for the season to be released on bluray.

P.S.

I do understand the need to find ways to generate revenues to pay for the more costly and elaborate shows.  If the acting, story telling and the quality of the production is high I would be glad to pay for it.  I subscribe to HBO because of the incredible quality of the shows they produce, Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, GOT and others including a new show called The Deuce.
