As for the distance issues with Voyager and the galactic barrier, have you ever looked at a map of the Trek galaxy? Perhaps you should...

Or just go with the simpler point that ST5 was garbage. The Enterprise had something like 70 numbered not lettered decks.

That too, but what do you expect with Shatner both writing AND directing it? :p  Either way, it's official canon so has to get shoehorned in somehow. :(

Why is it that a fan of a particular TV show has to be referred to as a nerd?  Leave the derogatory language out of it please.

Get a grip mate, both you and I are old enough and ugly enough to deal with the word "nerd".  I consider myself a nerd over certain things, some of my collectables and so on.  I am not using it as a derogatory term.

Don't see why being an nerd is derogatory to todays standards.

I think people are to focused and hoping that it would be a rehash or a similar feeling to the old series.  If that was the case, they would never get new viewership.  Younger people these days are not going to watch or enjoy TOS, TNG, DS9, STV, or the movies, and know the history and story lines from back then.    People not familiar with the older series have no frame of reference and will not be be upset or annoyed that Discovery is changing things.  I noticed tonight, they used Number One a lot.  That and the sounds from the other episodes only Trek fans and those who know the other series would notice.  I kind of like it.  Discovery used to bug me as it was different, but it is just a show.  I watch for entertainment and so far, that is what I am getting from it.   And heck, if people are so annoyed by what Discovery has to offer, the show has much more technology that the other series combined.  The Trek universe is huge and need to open your mind a little.

The series with Patrick Steward will be interesting and I am looking forward to that character returning to the screen.  But even that will have a different feeling to it I am better.

But anyway, I am rambling and not sure I made much sense.  Been a looong day.

Even if it HAD gone away (it hasn't), that's irrelevant.  It's going to court and CBS have very little to stand on as the plagiarism is blatant. Hell, the actors even resemble the game characters!

I apologise on this one, I had believed it was being settled OOC.

If you're interested,  here's a very recent update on what's happening with the whole lawsuit and a summary of the background behind it.

I'm no lawyer, but appearances seem pretty cut and dried to me. They stole the whole idea of the spore drive AND several of the game characters from Anas Abdin's game, Tardigrades.

It's surprising the drive keeps coming into play given the end of season "well starfleet's got people working on new ways for it to work" line despite the designer and person with practical knowledge going off on the ship and 'command experience' Tilly being in charge of operation box up in the first episode of season 2.

Yeah, I know. You'd think they'd want to drop it given the lawsuit.  Also, as someone in the comments section of the video I posted said, the whole concept of the spore drive is very un-Star Trek in the first place... It's organic tech, which just isn't used in the Federation, and it uses a sentient lifeform as a key component, which goes against just about every Starfleet & Federation law going!

If you've watched the latest episode you'll see how they are phasing it out. 😛 It was a good episode for continuity correction.

I haven't yet; will be soon.  It IS good that they're trying to fix stuff though. Hell, one of my favourite arcs from Enterprise was the Augment's arc, where they explained why Klingons looked different in TOS! :p

It's funny how after I bring up the whole hologram communication tech not being in past trek shows could be explained they did so in this episode, at least as far as the enterprise is concerned.

... Okay. THAT was an episode of Star Trek.  Keep it up!

After a little more thought... I still enjoyed the episode, but.. Really? Drilling a hole in Tilly's head with a powerdrill and no pain relief? Really?  That was just utterly dumb and totally unnecessary.  The rest was fine, but that... Naaah...

She was already doped and high as a kite from the, uhh, parasite.  She had all the pain relief she needed already.  Besides, from what I saw, it was just a tiny hole, mostly on the surface, they didn't go deep.

Also, it was good to see them come up with some other way to do it since they were locked in and couldn't get out etc.   You work with what you have.

She made rather a lot of noise for someone sedated...

Unless you're put under fully, so you're asleep, you'll still feel something, it's just dulled enough so you don't go crazy/pass out.   It's like having a local anesthetic, which I've had on a number of instances.   I still felt enough, but it was barrable.

I have seen the videos of when people are sedated/drugged when they get their teeth pulled.  They are pretty lively and do not remember what they say or do.  I was put under years ago when I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed.  There was an hour I was walking around, talking, and doing things I do not remember.  I went to sleep in the dentist chair and the next thing I remember, I was home in my bed with a glass of water in my hands.  But I walked to the car after the procedure myself.  Used the rest room...don't remember any of it.

It was a good episode.  You analyze it to much, will find things you don't like.  Same with pretty much anything.

I have had untold surgeries (about 3 of similar level including one trefelation elsewhere) with mild sedation.  You are aware of it, you can sort of feel it, but there's no pain.  I made no noise.

However, it felt like an unnecessary scene to my mind - having to use an impromptu tool rather than a sci-fi whizzy thing that they tend to always have.  But that remains to be played out.

That was an incredible episode.

Emotional, exciting and the special effects were on point.

Was also cool seeing the s31 ship in action, as well as the Discovery get banged up and tossed around the network

Yea, but keep getting irritated when we think Spock will appear, and he does not.  My guess is he won't appear until the end of S2 and then we will have to wait until S3 to see more.  It is like they are teasing us.  haha

    • WordArt was cool. We now have color fonts as a substitute although Word only supports COLRv0 and COLRv1 (Fraud OS 11 only). The OpenType SVG color font format needs to be supported by Office. Adobe's apps support it
    • i backup my files, incl keepass to my proton drive using Syncback which i paid for (thanks Warwagon!). they have a free version but i can't remember what it does and doesn't do anymore. anyways, it's really, really simple and easy to use. i also periodically keep backups of my keepass onsite especially when i've changed or added a password that is important to me. if you don't wanna spend time on the syncthing setup, get syncback. haha i even got my dad to use it for his backups to usb and he doesn't even need my help!!! (thank god!)
