Yeah I heard similar. It was, however, added in certain regions because it was felt it would address the fan disconnect, which some bean counters attributed to lack of awareness. It wasn't a reboot, it was a prequel, just like Discovery is. No one asked for Discovery either. At least Enterprise paid more respect to canon than Discovery did. Hell, they even managed to explain the smooth browed Klingons from the TOS era... margrave and shockz 1 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1277086-official-star-trek-discovery-thread/page/47/#findComment-598440788 Share on other sites

And yet it hasn't begun production... Time will tell what happens with Kurtzman, but apparently the powers that be are not happy at early screentest results for Picard. Note: What I think of Kurtzman as a showrunner is irrelevant. What is NOT irrelevant, is that Netflix are not happy with Disco and have dropped it, CBS execs are not happy with that OR the poor numbers on its streaming service that Disco was supposed to boost, and they're not happy with how Picard is looking so far. They've lost quite a lot of money on Kurtzman's shift due to this and the massive budget overruns in the first 2 seasons, and that's not a good way to impress your bosses. Just my humble opinion, but it might serve them better to dump Disco and go with a series based around Pike, Spock and the Enterprise. THAT part of Disco seemed universally popular with all sides of Trek fandom. The end of season 2 seems to have been received as something of a redemption and Netflix seemed pretty happy with it. Initially yes, and he was. But they changed that relatively quickly. Besides which, it's primarily Pike who was the most popular one. And even Emo Spock is better than Mary Sue Burnham. macrosslover 1 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1277086-official-star-trek-discovery-thread/page/47/#findComment-598456836 Share on other sites

No, they had an arc and it played out. The issue wasn't the character or the arc, but supposed "purists" who felt they were having their cannon trod all over and got all pissy and demanding as if (once again) they even matter. LOC Veteran Posted October 5, 2019 Veteran Share Posted October 5, 2019 Was just coming in to post this, looks good. I kinda figured they'd go with the whole "Federation is gone or diminished" future and the Discovery crew helps rebuild it somehow (only Burnham can do it though!). I wonder if we'll see a Dax symbiote since they go to Trill and Burnham goes into the Trill pools there. I also wonder if they are doing a splinter timeline, where its not what the prime canon universe would actually end up as or something. Who knows at this point, especially now that CBS has access (lol get it?!) to the full on Star Trek mythos and canon (whether you believed that 25% bologna or not is up to you). The merger deal is done isn't? So after this point they can do whatever and bring things back inline with the canon more and more as the show goes on. Like, yet again, through time travel tricks.
