Issue with no sound in certain games, unknown what could be causing it

Recommended Posts

I am noticing on a handful of games that I play, that the sound (music and dialog as well as any ambient) is completely non-existent. I have just now updated the Realtek audio driver in an attempt to troubleshoot. The 2 games right now that I am noticing the lack of sound is 1) Pinball Fx2, and Kings Quest: A Knight to Remember. Other games that I play have sound, but not intro sound, such as Dying Light, the music and dialog does not start until the game has began and there used to be sound at the beginning (program launch). Nothing hardware has changed since I began to notice the issues, and I have troubleshooted by enabling the sound to go through my monitors speakers, and the issue does not change. So I am wondering is the issue the games, the OS, the ...? Also what steps can I take to further troubleshoot this issue?

This is just a guess, could your audio device be set to output 5.1 or 7.1 with your speakers not matching this configuration?

Nice thought, wish it were that easy. :) But sadly they are set to stereo.

Oh with music and cut scene video etc it could be missing old codecs.

http://filehippo.com/download_klite_mega_codec/

Install that with the "Lots of stuff" dropdown.

Also installs Codec tools where you can tweak the priority of different codecs so the right one loads first, but unlikely you would need to consider that.
