Huel? Anyone tried this alternative to food?

I think it's going to take a bit of will power to keep this going for a week or so until I get used to it. My head just can't get around not eating something, I kinda miss chewing :p

I don't mind the vanilla flavour at all, I ordered Chocolate and Mocha Flavourings with my order but stupidly only ordered two bags of the Vanilla instead of half and half so that should be an interesting combination.

I tend to have a cereal bar alongside it, or a packet of crisps. Helps out a lot. :)

There's a comedian (Louis Anderson maybe?) who would recommend adding a couple of scoops of ice cream to this stuff!

I think it's just a mental issue to get over, give it a few minutes after I'm finished and I can tell it's filled me up. I'm using this to try and control lunch cost but mostly to lose weight so I'm trying not to give in to any temptations at the moment. I have some fruit at work for desperate times but even that I try to leave as a lost resort.

Got some unflavoured Huel and Mocha flavouring today, looked a lot more watery which I'm not looking forward to but we'll see how it goes.

Well it's interesting, not sure if I like it though, as you;ve said maybe just some time to get used to it.

Tastes quite pappy though, and I think the flavour is a bit too bland for me.  But I'll give the 3 packs a go and see, might try a few variation with milk, smoothie and maybe some juice.

@John., @Jack W @Skiver any suggestions? (other than the flavour packs, don't want to invest in those until I'm convinced.

Add some honey, or hot chocolate powder

Blend it into a smoothie in the morning with bananas, berries, bit of peanut butter. Lovely!

I had to throw the unflavoured away, It just came out very watery and I couldn't stomach it. Glad that was only one of the samples and not a larger pack.

Yeah this is something we're looking to fix, but it's a little bit of a contentious issue.

People want the unflavoured version to be as natural as possible, so they don't like us adding too much of the gum arabic, which is the thickener/emulsifier that we use in Vanilla Huel. There is a little bit in unflavoured, but not enough to make it as thick. We probably will add more of it to the unflavoured as views seem to be changing, but thought I'd explain why it was less thick!

Thanks for the reply - to be honest I'm happy to say that stuff just isn't for me and always buy the flavoured stuff. I'm hoping the flavours will go OK with the vanilla but if not it's not a big deal, I like the Vanilla stuff, I was just hoping to add a bit of variety as I'm sure it can get boring very quickly.

Is it potentially worth posting as a suggestion to people to maybe drop the water to Huel ratio when using unflavoured?

Hey Gulliver! Glad to see you found the website! :) I emailed earlier today about the effects on diabetics! My mom said it looks like a excellent choice for me to use as a meal supplement for when I'm at work. She's going to speak to her co-worker. She wants to know when you'll ship to the states! Haha.

I think they already do ship to the US, at a bit of a higher shipping cost - I believe it is calculated at time of purchase.

Whats wrong with eating normal food thats made out of things like ... food ?

What is normal food? Normal food is relative to each and every person.

Is everything we eat considered food, or only what society overall accepts as being food?

Ahhhhhhhhhh snowpiercer! good movie

Well, the problem with food, it is, in no order:

#1 to hard to cook

#2 to mainstream

#3 takes too much time, to grow, harvest, clean, cook

#4 is not trendy anymore

#5  lulz for anyone who takes me seriously

Well for that matter - if you are weary of being labeled as normal or mainstream, or normal - you can eat feces - from your POV - it would still be food as it is consumed.

As for what I was talking about - I think you know what I was talking about.

You can have all the hummus, kale, akai crap you want.

Everyone has their own reasons for the choices in what they eat, I'm sure I've read at least 3 or 4 different reasons.

For me, this is a way of keeping costs down and controlling with massive ease how much I'm eating. I'd love to eat whatever the hell I'd like to eat but unfortunately my metabolism seems to have packed it's bags and left and I put weight on easily.

A few years ago I hit what I thought was a stupidly high weight and I fought hard for around 8-9 months of what felt like starving myself or eating food I didn't really enjoy and going to the gym/running as much as I can. Once I got to a place I was happy with I got lazy, oh it won't matter if I eat that, it's just one gym session it won't make a difference. Then over the last few years I've slowly let that get out of control until I'm pretty much back where I started, it was slow and it crept up on me.

This time around I'm really struggling to be as tough as I previously was, First it was I'd lose weight by March, Then May and now it's June and I've not really done anything because I give in. Yep this is a will power thing and completely down to myself but it's easy to make excuses for things and I do it far too often. So if trying one thing that actually saves me money by a substantial amount and helps me lose a bit of weight I say that sounds like a good deal to me.

I'll be hunting this year. You want some Deer/Elk? Going to see if I can get a Moose tag for Idaho/Montana, or a Grizzly tag for Washington State. I think it'd be epic to get a bear tag!

That's where I'm at now. I've gotten so fat that I'm replacing muscle with fat, and it's making life difficult. I've started doing push ups before bed, and before I shower. I get about 10 - 12 everytime I do it. I have absolutely no upper body strength. It's mostly where my fat is located too. Two of the biggest changes I need to do is; 1. Stop eating fast food (Non-Diabetic Friendly stuff too), and 2. Exercise. It's actually really rough for me to exercise. I'm one of those people who feel ashamed to be in a gym, and I'm self-conscience about my appearance. I don't want to moon a hot chick, or have my fat flap out. So, when I get in a little better shape, and i've gotten my diet down (Huel is going to help!), I'm going to start cycling more (100 miles a week minimum), and rowing 10,000 meters on a rowing machine. My neighbors have a bowflex  too.

Wondering why I'm telling you all this. As someone whose been fat/chubby all his life, women don't like fat guys. I can tell you that. I get looked at and judged like I'm a leper with a drug addiction. I want to change the way I look because I'm tired of not being able to keep up with people in my life. Plus, I want to wear a 36 or 38 again, not a 44 - 48. :)

Just remember to start small!

Going back to when I did lose the weight I remember my first run was about 0.5 miles and it was utterly dejecting knowing back in my youth I'd run 8 mile (not fast by any account) without too much problem. Just keep at it and keep pushing and suddenly that .5 mile is 1 mile. I was running 5-6 miles by the time I was at my fittest and that was a good enough distance for me.

I ride roughly 60 miles a week at the moment (6 miles to work, 6 back, 5 times a week) and that was tough at first but I can feel myself getting stronger through it. I'm doing it quicker each week, just sadly don't seem to be losing any weight through it.

I'm 6'6" (77" / 195.6cm), 355lbs (161kg / 25 Stones). I can barely run at all, I cycle more because it's easier on my body. Walking kills my legs, I get rubber legs if I walk too much, haha. I love to row, I'm looking into getting another rowing machine. I'll check out my neighbors bow flex too.

My goal is to ride to work at least ONCE before winter. It's 75 miles round trip. It has some steep hills, so going to work will suck. It's one of the choice rides because of the hills, you get a serious leg work out. I'll work a 12 hour shift, and then take off home. I need to build muscle in my upper body.

Sure, that was just an example - just apply that to cycling. Don't try and go out and do your 75 mile round trip without working up to it. My Cycle too work is mostly downhill and I'm nowhere near what I'd call in a fit state but I average around 14MPH and 11 MPH home. You do realise at that sort of distance you're talking about 7-8 hours worth of cycling?

    • Hi everyone, I'm planning a small network upgrade and was wondering how others prepare their networks for future needs. Do you usually invest in higher-speed switches and better cabling from the start, or do you upgrade only when necessary? I'd be interested in hearing what has worked well for you and any lessons you've learned over time. Thanks!
