"scorch" = ablated TPS, often cork.

 

There is no igniter. Pyrophoric fluids, TEA-TEB,  are injected internally and they spontaneously ignite on contact with the LOX vapors and LOX from engine chill-down and spin-up.

It was my understanding that SpaceX used a single igniter in the center of the Octaweb to start the whole show? Hmm. Okee doke. :D

The green glow on launch ignition is the TEA-TEB flashing over, and it sets off the RP-1. 

 

There is a single TEA-TEB circuit for the center and 2 opposite Octaweb engines, so they all flash over for ignition at reentry etc. but only  those engines which have been chilled down, spun up  and have their prop valves open actually start.
