I agree with you on Reddit and forum posts not being a strong source, but I'm not sure why you would question if it is a memory leak, it pretty clearly is. All memory leaks are the result of some other bug. That fact that you mention possible bugs doesn't change the fact that if you are right, that would still be considered a memory leak. Say a race condition exists where a function ends prior to object cleanup, that is both a race condition and a memory leak, in fact, that is the most classic type of memory leak.
