I tried my test machine using both ways. The full January, said I still needed many updates. Then tried the December with January upgrade. Actually with the upgrade I had a couple fewer updates I needed. Both ways left with with WMP 8.0. I'm running it again like someone else did previously to see if anything changes. Good luck Flish!!

Well, I'm midway through my VMWare install of XP... let's see what happens. :)

Flishfun I hate to be the annoying, stupid, person that asks "are we there yet?, are we there yet? are we there yet?"

BUT

how is the debugging coming along :D ?

I ask because my rig is SCREAMING(!) from the other room to install new Jan Autopatcher and the new ATI OMEGA drivers and da new NFORCE2 drivers and the newest update to BF1942's Homefront (HALO) mod and .... yea

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D  :D :D :D :D :D :D PINES & NEEDLES MAN!

Workin'! Got pulled away, now am back. Soon as I find somethin' out I'll tell ya, I swear! :D

Sorry I didn't post earlier. I've been puttin' in alot of overtime at work this weekend. I'm havin' the same problem using the Full January release on a clean install. ie... Runs all 135 patches and reg tweaks I saved as defaults in about 15 minutes (I saved as defaults on a clean install system so no conflicts with logs). Afterwards Windows Update reports 15 critical updates, WindowsXP says 19 updates. 34 total.

Now here's the weird thing. At the same time I burned the AutoPatcher CD, I replaced the AutoPatcher files in my Unattended WinXP w/AutoPatcher CD and it installed without any problems. It takes alittle over an hour total, which is what I expected. Windows Update shows everything is updated.

I figured everything was good until I read these posts about problems, that's when I tested the Autopatcher CD (see above paragraph).

I can't explain why the Unattended WinXP w/AutoPatcher CD works and the standalone CD doesn't.

BTW My unattended CD installs AutoPatcher from the CD without copying the files to the HDD, just in case you're wondering.

I don't mean to add to the confusion, I'm hoping this might be a clue to what's wrong.

Well I can attest that I have had a problem installing it with 2 systems. Flish is aware and we are both looking into it now. It worked fine on 1 clean install, but failed on 2 other clean installs. But my question to you who have had the problem. Did you burn it to CD then run it that way? Let us know the detailed way you did the install.

I am thinking my situation was a bad burn. I took the contents off the CD and put on the HDD to run on the other 2 systems instead of running the install off cd. I burned 2 cds, tested one system and it installed no problems then gave it to a friend. The 2nd cd I burned for myself I had problems.

I have tossed that, and did a new burn and will be testing it further with 4 systems I am working on.

with an Unattended install DEC worked fine whe I ran JAN full edition Unattended install, It went smooth (no errors) came back to the PC at the desktop looks like it took all the winnt.sif stuff fine sunjava was installed and everything looked good did a windows update and found that most of the windows updates had not been installed tried it 2 times with an original WinXP cd without sp1 and with a slipstreamed ver with sp1 still nogo same issue most of the windows updates not installed.

HD installation worked for me. I reinstalled Windows and tried to apply the AutoPatcher using 2 different CDs with no success. After reading about the HD installation, I copied the AutoPatcher files to the HD and applied it from there. Everything is now fine and dandy; I have all the updates installed :D .

Thanks,

Kajouma

can someone check this cause i'm away from home:

check if there are any read-only files on your hdd jan autopatcher folder...

maybe this is causing it (like the cd installation, that shows the problem to some, solved by copying the files to their hdd)

will surely get to the root of this problem...:-P

After using win update, which showed loads of available installs.... I rebooted and tried the install again, selecting only the Critical Patches and Hotfixes, and same aditional windows components....

This install was successful.....

I am going to try a new clean install, then run the above again, without bonus and registry......

Thanks for your help in narrowing this down... I have AgEnTsMiTh workin' on 4 systems tryin' to figure it out as well. As I said, if even one of the people I had beta-test this had this issue, it wouldn't have been released.

I'm trying to DL the full version this morning so i make it part of my dorm CD.

My boss gave me the go ahead on putting the files on the web.

I was wonder if you think it would be best for me to wait until this problem is resolved?

If so then just PM me with a DL link and I will try and get the files up ASAP

FlishFun: Ive attached a few files, so you can see which bits dont seem to be installing; my .apm file, 2 AP log files, screenshot of Add/remove progs, and text files showing what updates were available for my system from win update.

Ive just been reading the apxplog file which have the top line:

Log generated by AutoPatcher XP 4.2 (4.2.29)

Using database file build Gold - Update 02 (December 2003) - English Version

Im pretty sure I did use the Jan AP Full, or is this just an old textline that has not been updated?

These files are from a clean install XPSP1 with the Jan Full AP installed...

Last time I did this, I reinstalled AP with the same settings and all worked fine. I will do this again, and see it it works second time around.

Had to remove the database file, as it would not upload... it was about 700k zipped??? OOps just spotted the 250k restriction...

AP_Docs.zip

@DrScouse - This is quite interesting... do you feel up to testing something for me? Try a fresh Format/reinstall/AutoPatcher with: "Q329059 - Themed Programs May Stop Working During Long Operations" unchecked... I notice that's where the updates stop (all before seem to be okay, and none after show up).

iam also haveing the same prob, just tried installing it on 5 brand new out the box compaq pc's and there is still loads of stuff to download from windows update.

i have one more to do so if theres any thing you want me to try just ask

Yes, if you would, do this last one with "Q329059 - Themed Programs May Stop Working During Long Operations" Unchecked. It's in the "Recommended Updates" section. I notice this seems to be where the updates stop.

I will reinstall my ghost image (pre AP Install) in a few moments...

Ive just tried running AP again, over the top with the same settings, and everything installed ok, the install took about 30mins, whereas the first install took about 7mins, although visually there were no obvious errors, other than the lack of pop up installers (which ran as normal on the second install).

I will try to mod you suggested and get back....

Well if it's not that update, than it has to be one close to it (possibly the one after)... and whatever it is, it allows the AP to function fine on the second install... it's very weird... if it is that patch, I can fix it easily... if it isn't... I'll have to check the ones around it. (Y)

@rcblanke - Thanks for the input... that could be the issue that's causing this issue...
