More gifs and such here.

People saying that's a grappling hook on his left arm, is it though?

So something that Nadella mentioned in the earnings call yesterday,  "the largest launch line-up for any console ever". Source

That's a seriously bold claim, roll on 5pm.

Also a few details about Forza 8 have leaked.

Spoiler

Headlines

  • Devs targeting 4K at 120FPS with ray tracing. GT on PS5 was aiming for 60FPS with ray tracing. This also seems very high, so huge pinch of salt.
  • Devs are also going for quality over quantity. To me means fewer cars/tracks but immense details
  • Feb 2021 release. Disappointing that it isn't launch
  • Rally racing. Be cool to see this in Turn10's more serious racer
  • Plus a bunch of other features
    • New tire pressure model.

    • Dynamic track temperatures.

    • New atmosphere pressure system, affecting air density, dynamics, and power.

    • Redesigned suspension system With ned modeling.

    • New Ranked online system.

    • New Integrated online Ghosting System. (evolution of Forza 7 late addition)

    • Tracks Have full Day and night cycles depending on race length/Track.

    • Rubber in on tracks.

    • New heat interaction with tire pressure.

    • Expanded race capacity.

    • Off-road racing on land or gravel.

    • Rally races will also be present.

    • Clubs Return

I think in "largest launch line-up for any console ever" he's including all of the backwards compatible games which will in fact be playable at launch on Series X. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Re: Forza, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's all hands on deck to help 343 finish Halo Infinite in time for launch, which is why Forza Motorsport 8 could have been moved back from launch day, if the leak is true. With Halo being so important and Microsoft heavily promoting DiRT 5, I can see this definitely being the case.

Also a fun a little thing, in case you missed the 'Exclusive' voiceover from E3:

Yeah a little sneaky. I have a feeling that's what they're going with. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that I'll be able to play all those games day one on the Series X, but I would have hoped that phrase would have been reserved for actual games launching day 1. Just me being pedantic.

Love that voiceovers people! I saw something over at Neogaf. It's the Xbox Event drinking game, you take a shot every time you hear "World Exclusive" or "World Premiere"

Probably games that were Xbox One X enhanced that will be updated day one to be better on the new console as well.

It has to be said that the CEO talking up Xbox should be a big indication of how committed to it MS is considering how rough the Xbox One went.

As far as the FM8 rumors.

Spoiler

As far as the bit about it going for 4k @ 120fps, well, they got FM7 running at 60fps on the original Xbox One, and it does 4k@60 on the One X iirc, so I really don't see it as being hard for them to actually do.  Racing games are special in that you can squeak out more FPS with crafty tricks because of the nature of racing in general.  When the environment is zipping past you so fast, you're not going to notice if the stuff to the sides is lower res then the rest.  I think FM8 will rely heavily on VRS.  So it wouldn't surprise me if they somehow manage to hit 120fps.

I think besides Kinect, all Xbox One games are backwards compatible, and it honestly would be pretty stupid of them to not include the One X Enhanced versions, where available. It'd just be work that's wasted.

I think the growth of Game Pass has a lot to do with this, and as far as FM8 is concerned, if they can achieve 4K 120FPS with DXR (DirectX Raytracing) on, that'd be quite the looker as far as racing games go, and that's saying something.

Yes.  I was suggesting they will be updated with better content, not just updated to work.  The PC versions are already likely capable of more than the X1X can do in some cases.

Even without doing much the X1X versions of games should just run smoother and load quicker on the XSX, so that's something.   I don't know how much work they'll put into them yet again, maybe adding some VRS and ray tracing to spice them up but I think it'd be better to let teams work on the next wave of games than to just touch up titles that are already 3 or 4 years old.

For more recent stuff I could easily see Gears of War 5, Hellblade, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, and The Outer Worlds getting a content update.  I doubt they all will, but a good chunk of them wouldn't surprise me.

So far I know they said Gears 5 will, don't know about the others.  Crackdown 3 was pretty much a flop so I think they'd rather forget about that game.  😛

By traditional sales metrics maybe, but I'd bet a whole lot of Game Pass players loved it.

It wasn't the best Crackdown game ever but it was still very much worth playing. :)

So much talk about Xbox Live Gold being dropped and MP going free on console, would be a huge move if true.

To be honest, since the introduction of Gamepass it has become a little muddier.

We now essentially have 4 tiers right?

  • Silver/Free (let's you chat or something I think)
  • Gold - MP, games/deals with gold
  • Gamepass - Netflix for games (but no MP)
  • Gamepass Ultimate - Gold and Gamepass combined.

With the introduction of xCloud, that could muddy the water further, so a streamline would be welcome!

Well, Dragon Quest 11 coming to Xbox looks like.  Will be part of Game Pass.   OH but it's a updated version, DQ11 S.  I thought it looked different from my version on PC.

    • I was expecting the end of the world to happen before this game or elder scroll 6 to come out.
    • OpenAI and Broadcom unveil Jalapeño, a new AI chip built for LLM inference by Pradeep Viswanathan Image by OpenAI Thanks to the exponential growth of ChatGPT and other LLM-based applications, NVIDIA has grown from a $200 billion company into the first public company to reach a $5 trillion market cap. Even though hyperscalers such as Google and Amazon have their own mature AI accelerators, NVIDIA still dominates the AI infrastructure market with multiple generations of GPUs. Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta remain among NVIDIA’s largest customers, while Google and Amazon continue to be significant NVIDIA customers as they serve AI workloads for customers on their cloud platforms. Today, OpenAI and Broadcom announced Jalapeño, OpenAI’s first custom “Intelligence Processor” designed specifically for large language model inference. The new chip is the first product from a multi-generation compute platform being developed by OpenAI. OpenAI highlighted that Jalapeño was built from the ground up for current and future LLM workloads, rather than being a general-purpose accelerator adapted for AI. Despite heavy competition from Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and others, ChatGPT remains the most used AI platform in the world. OpenAI mentioned that it leveraged its knowledge of how its models and products run at scale, including ChatGPT, Codex, the API, and future agentic AI systems, to design this new chipset. Its chip architecture reduces data movement while balancing compute, memory, and networking resources. Jalapeño will be deployed in production systems starting in late 2026; however, engineering samples are already running machine learning workloads in OpenAI’s labs at production target frequency and power. According to its internal testing, OpenAI claims this chip can deliver “substantially better” performance per watt, and a detailed technical report is expected in the coming months. While OpenAI designed the chip, Broadcom handled silicon implementation and networking technologies, including Tomahawk networking silicon, and Celestica is assisting with board, rack, and system-level integration. OpenAI pointed out that Jalapeño went from initial design to manufacturing tape-out in just nine months, which it claims is the fastest ASIC development cycle achieved for a high-performance advanced semiconductor. The company attributed the speed of development to its own LLMs, which were used during the chip design and optimization process. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated that the company's plan is to deploy the Jalapeño platform at a gigawatt scale with Microsoft and other partners starting in 2026. With Jalapeño, OpenAI joins Google, Microsoft, and Amazon to become a full-stack AI player. The company already develops models and products, and is now moving deeper into infrastructure, including chips, kernels, networking, scheduling, and deployment systems.

    • Regarding the AI photo, I LOVE AI in that regard, you ask it what you want and it gives you a lovey photo in under a minute, that would taken me an hour to make in photoshop and it wouldn't have looked nearly as good. 2 nights ago I spent a couple hours collaborating with AI.  I did not say write me an article. I would write one or 2  paragraphs, then I would ask it to clean it up so it read better but still keeps the information I was trying to convey.  Rinse repeat.
