Raspberry Pi has launched a new 5” variant of the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2. The new display is available to buy now from Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers in various countries around the world. This display offers a smaller, more compact form factor compared to the 7” version and is priced at $40, which is $20 less than the 7” model, which launched last year.

The new 5” display has a 720x1280-pixel resolution and a true multi-touch capacitive panel supporting five-finger touch. It is fully supported by Raspberry Pi OS, offering seamless integration with the rest of the Raspberry Pi product ecosystem. The display is designed to be plug-and-play, working out of the box with full Linux driver support. It also comes with the necessary cables, connectors, and mounting hardware. This 5” model shares almost identical specifications with the 7” model, with the main difference being size and price.

Here are the full specs for the 5" model:

  • 5″ diagonal display
  • 62mm × 110mm active area
  • 720 (RGB) × 1280 pixels
  • True multi-touch capacitive panel, supporting five-finger touch
  • Fully supported by Raspberry Pi OS
  • Powered by the host Raspberry Pi
  • All necessary cables, connectors, and mounting hardware included

Commenting on the new product, Raspberry Pi said:

“Touch Display 2 offers a straightforward way to integrate a high-quality user interface into countless applications, whether those are personal builds, research projects, or commercial solutions, and our new 5″ variant provides an even more compact option if you’re targeting the smallest form factors.”

The new 5” and existing 7” variants of the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 are available to buy now. They can be purchased from Raspberry Pi’s worldwide network of Approved Resellers. So, if you’ve been looking at the 7” touch display but thought it was too big for the projects you’re working on, check out the 5” model, as this may be a better fit, and it's cheaper too.
