Samsung News is getting a dedicated Sports tab and stock market module powered by Yahoo

Samsung has announced its "first major features expansion" for the Samsung News app, in partnership with Yahoo Media Group, bringing "up-to-the-minute" sports information from Yahoo Sports, as well as financial data from Yahoo Finance, directly into the app.

If you're an English user in the US or Canada with a Galaxy phone or tablet from 2023 or later, you'll soon be seeing a new Sports tab. The integration lets you check scores, schedules, standings, and stats directly from top sports leagues. You can also follow your favourite teams and sports to personalize the feed.

On the financial side, the app is getting a dedicated Yahoo Finance module. This new section displays real-time information, tracking major U.S. indices like the Dow Jones and S&P 500, along with other market data as it moves. The module will appear next to a curated stream of financial news from what Samsung calls a variety of "top news sources."

As mentioned before, the update is only limited to users in the United States and Canada for now, and only in English. Samsung promises that it will bring the features to more languages and regions "soon", but there is no specific timeline for that international rollout yet.

Samsung News was launched in beta in the US back in April 2023 as a replacement for the old Samsung Free app. The newer service offers several features like customizable news feeds where users can follow topics from content partners, including Yahoo, NBC News, ESPN, Fox Business, and new additions like Complex and Time Out. It also provides curated "Morning Briefing" and "Evening Briefing" summaries compiled by a team of human editors.

Last year, the app added content through a partnership with LALIGA to bring Spanish football news to the platform. In addition to that, Samsung introduced a dedicated hub for coverage of the US presidential election. This section included things like regularly refreshed polling data, a calendar of key dates for debates, and detailed profiles on the candidates.
