Players report major issues with Switch 2 Skyrim port, Bethesda responds

Fans aren't happy about the state of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Nintendo Switch 2, with the latest port being reported to have massive issues.

In the almost 15 years that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been out, Bethesda has brought the popular RPG to almost every modern gaming platform available. Just a few days ago, the company expanded that port list to include Nintendo's latest console, the Switch 2. While this edition was supposed to bring major upgrades to the experience, it looks like players aren't very happy with its launch state.

The Nintendo eShop does not support user reviews. However, in the couple of days since the Switch 2 port has been available, reports of issues with the Anniversary Edition have been slowly growing on social media platforms like Reddit.

While the new version is utilizing Switch 2's hardware to bring higher resolution gameplay and crisper visuals, the frame rate is still locked to 30, just like the original Switch Skyrim port. Input lag has also been mentioned as being extremely high, with players recording at least 250 ms of delay between inputting an action and it happening in-game.

Another pain point for Switch 2 owners has been the installation size. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition comes in at 53GB on the platform, taking up a significant chunk of the built-in 256GB of storage. Strangely, the same Anniversary Edition takes up less than half that on other platforms like PC, even with the Creation Club additions.

Now, Bethesda has responded to the reports on its support website.

"We are investigating reports of performance issues on Nintendo Switch with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim after the Anniversary Edition update," it said. The company went on to ask players to subscribe to the issue article for when it updates with more information. Players can also report bugs via Bethesda's separate Skyrim issues section over here.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is a $59.99 purchase on the Nintendo Switch 2, while owners of the same edition on the original Switch receive it as a free upgrade. Skyrim Special Edition owners also have a $19.99 upgrade available.
