Valve shows off Steam Community Market overhaul, wants your feedback

The next update to the Steam store is aimed at its community market, with Valve upgrading the item pages, discovery, search, and more.

Valve tends to deliver updates to its Steam platform in small chunks, targeting various features and portions of the store that have been laying dormant for a long time. The latest such update has just landed in beta form, and it's all about making the Steam Community Market a nicer place by updating the item pages, listings, search, filtering, and more.

For those unfamiliar with this portion of the store, the community market allows Steam users to buy and sell in-game items and community-specific items with other users, gaining funds in the Steam wallet in the process. Valve says that over 13,000 games now use the market and that the available tools aren't enough anymore for browsing and discovering items.

Heading into a game's own community market now opens up an overhauled page that uses a larger view for getting more information about items faster. This means a wider layout that uses the full width of the screen being used to browse the market. Scrolling will also load more items to browse automatically.

Counter-Strike 2 players will see major improvements to how items are presented, specifically with Valve generating 27 million new images for the game alone to showcase skins while also integrating accessories and grouping variants of the same items into singular pages.

Searching for market items will now make use of new dynamic filters while also being faster. "These filters are built from existing item data, so you can filter (and sometimes search) against anything we know about," said Valve.

Users going into an item page will also see that new category links, better graphs (showing volume data alongside price), and dynamic filters have now arrived to these sections too.

The new changes have already rolled out to the Community Market's item pages and search results in beta form. However, Valve is letting users opt out and switch back to the original market pages until all testing is completed. The company asked users to provide feedback on the changes on the Steam Community Market discussions page here.
