As soon as i get pantehr jazzman im getting u to install it for me, I don't know dos LOL.
ahh, kids - to young to remember the golden age of computing :p
anyone played around with more of the config file?

I'm leaving that for now ... gonna wait and see how this install turns out

I'm having trouble with PPC recognizing the hard drive .img file that I downloaded. I extracted it with WinRAR. Is there a way to tell early on if the "Mac" recognizes it?

That might be something you're doing wrong in the config file? This is what my config file looks like:

# PearPC Configuration File

#
# Resolution
#
#	0: 640x480x8 (indexed)
#	1: 640x480x15
#	2: 640x480x32
#	3: 800x600x8 (indexed)
#	4: 800x600x15
#	5: 800x600x32
#	6: 1024x768x8 (indexed)
#	7: 1024x768x15
#	8: 1024x768x32
#
#	The indexed modes are unsupported.
#
#	default: 4
ppc_start_resolution = 4

#
# Redraw interval (in ms)
# must be between 1 and 999
#
# If you set this higher, PearPC will spend less time doing redraws (and so run faster)
# but feel less responsive. You should adjust this to your computer speed and personal
# preference.
#
redraw_interval_msec = 100

#
# Loader
#

#
#	Boot method
#   this can be
#   1. "auto", prom will boot the first bootable partition found (default)
#   2. "select", prom will show you a list of bootable partitions
#   3. "force", prom will load and boot the local file prom_loadfile
#
prom_bootmethod = "auto"

# Example of how to use "force":
#prom_bootmethod = "force"
#prom_loadfile = "test/yaboot"
#prom_env_bootpath = "disk"

#
#	bootargs: don't change unless you know what you are doing
#	machargs: set to "-v" to get a verbose startup
#

#prom_env_bootargs = ""
prom_env_machargs = "-v"

#
#	This is needed if you want to boot Mac OS X
#

prom_driver_graphic = "video.x"

# This will adjust the position of the initial page table (don't change)
#page_table_pa = 104857600

This is the error I keep getting that is keeping me from following my own guide (which has helped several people get to the installer).

Could it be something wrong with the image you ripped? I could get the software you mentioned in your guide to work. I used the free Alcohol 120% trial instead

If you are buying a PowerBook why are you buying Panther seperatly? It comes with it. Plus Tiger should be out this fall/winter.

Not to speak for him... but possibly two reasons.

1. How many powerbooks on ebay, clearance, etc come with Panther?

2. If he is going to give away panther he will need two in order to be in compliance with copyright law.

Heres the exact reason.

My powerbook will be brand new, exact same as timdorrs infact which i find is pretty cool. And secound, My neighbour is paying for these as she wants to upgrade from 10.1 to 10.3. So ya she said I could use the CD(s) for this.

Still won't recognize the hd .img file. I even uncommented the line in the config file that says "hd" just to be sure. How did everyone decompress their .bz2 file and how can I create one from scratch?

EDIT:

Ok, Disk Utility recognized the HD img. I formatted it, quit Disk Util, and Installer said that it could not install OS X on that HD.

Thunder getting VERY bad here in NJ. shutting down.

    • Personally, I think these things are way over rated and way over priced, even at this price. I recently had Frontier Fiber installed with 2 of these devices and although they worked, I switched back to my own router and AP setup and get way better consistency on wireless speed than with Eeros. Wired speed seems to be more consistent also. Will be returning Eeros soon. I had told Frontier I didn't want them to begin with.
    • Yes, exactly what I have been thinking. Don't make the context menu simpler, make it smarter to learn what I actually use. And then, give me the ability to pin settings that I rarely use but need forget where they are.

    • Here's how to watch Summer Game Fest 2026 and what to expect from the 2-hour showcase by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The June game showcase schedule is packed, and with the Sony event already behind us, it's time for the next major presentation to come in swinging. Later today, Geoff Keighley will be bringing the 2026 edition of Summer Game Fest live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. For anyone wanting to tune in online, the Summer Game Fest showcase livestream will be kicking off at 2 PM PT | 5 PM ET | 10 PM BST later today, June 5. The jam-packed show is slated to run for about two hours, with platforms like YouTube (4K at 60FPS), Twitch, Facebook, or X being available for catching it. Like in previous years, separate streams featuring American Sign Language and Descriptive Audio are available on YouTube as well. Keighley has only dropped a few teasers about what gaming fans can expect to see at the show. This includes a new look at Star Wars Zero Company from EA, a major announcement from Guild Wars developer ArenaNet, more Clutch gameplay, and some sort of Sega presence. As for fan expectations, there is hype building about a Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 reveal here, and we might see new details about announced games like Alien Isolation 2 as well. If you want even more games, keep in mind that right after the main kickoff event, the Day of the Devs showcase will begin its own festivities at 4 pm PT | 7 pm ET. This is focused entirely on upcoming indie games. Following this, the next major games showcase is slated to happen on June 7. Here, Microsoft is bringing the big guns with its Xbox Games Showcase and Gears of War E-Day Direct. Check out the full calendar for all of the June events over here.
