Running Mac OS X on x86 PC!

Question

you're supposed to run it through command prompt and run it from the config.

for example:

---

cd C:\pearpc\pearpc-0.3pre

ppc ppccfg_HD.txt

---

Or else you can make it easier and make a .bat file.

P.S - Is it just me or is the nightly build site f'ucked up right now

Hmm, weird. I've been using OS 10.3 and the 10.3.4 update popped up and I decided to do it. I had previously installed Panther and when I updated it wouldn't boot, but I decided to try again anyways. It worked, but the weird thing was, I've read everywhere that networking won't work after and you have to make changes. I never had to make any, all I did was open PearPC again after I left it overnight to update and it worked :s Would it have something to do with the version I'm using? I just thought if it does, it could be helpful to some people.

Going back to the bridging vs. ICS thing, I have mine bridged (though it is a Internet-LAN 1 (my PC's ethernet)-LAN 3 (TAP-Win32-for PearPC) bridge, perhaps that helps?) and it works (and Safari got the 10.3.4 update at an average of 250KBps, where I get things at 400 on Firefox outside PearPC--250? thats GOOD)

to clarify:

- I have bridged ethernet, which works.

- My bridge is between LAN1 (cable) and LAN3 (TAP-Win32, PearPC)

- OS X has the IP 192.168.1.105 (using a Linksys 4-Port Router, 4 IP addresses: 3 comps and PearPC)

- OS X downloads at 250KBps, good for a slow emulator

- Using the 0.3pre+SDL+newclock version

- Using OS 10.3(.4)

Wow, I'm amazed at how much PearPC has improved. From 0.1, unable to run OS X to 0.3pre with a fixed clock, 30sec boot times on a 2.53GHz P4 and the ability to ACTUALLY USE IT TO SURF THE WEB...

cool.

BTW, I own a new 20 inch iMac with 10.3, and was using the install DVD for PearPC. (I guess that's pirating anyway though...)

Need a small favor from you PearPc users. I'm in the process of doing a Panther transformation Pack http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=21&t=17277 but I need some screenies from Real Mac. I already have real Mac shots of ALL the control Panel stuff, etc..What I need is some screenies of the pop-up dialogue boxes, as many as possible, ya know , the dialogues like "are ya sure you wanna send such and such to the trash?" those kind.

If you can send me some screenies (only those please, I already have everything else) of those to [email protected] would be much appreciated. Thanx

P.s. For those that are probably asking (Hey, why don't ya just install PearPc and do it yourdelf!!!???) Cuz my play pc is too old and slow to run PearPc, and I can't be installing it on my work Pc ;)

Thanx All

anyone got Mac OS X Panther running on a Windows XP Tablet PC Computer? Can you use the pen to navigate OS X and utilize it for InkWell?

if it works in any way similar to a Wacom pen on a regular pc: no

cursor goes crazy when i put my Wacom pen over my tablet :p

Hmmm, after messing around with it a bit, all that works is browsing the internet with Safari and Firefox.  Software Update and iChat cannot connect to the Internet.

OK NM, I just needed to redo the card in OS X :)

But, I'm converted, and I just bought a G3 on ebay. Woohoo!

my config file is here:

# PearPC Configuration File
ppc_start_resolution = 5
redraw_interval_msec = 100
prom_bootmethod = "auto"
prom_env_machargs = "-s"
prom_driver_graphic = "video.x"
memory_size=0x38000000

pci_ide0_master_image = "D:\pearpc\PantherImage.img"
pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1

pci_ide0_slave_type = "cdrom"
pci_3c90x_installed = 0
pci_3c90x_mac = "de:ad:ca:fe:12:34"
pci_usb_installed = 1
nvram_file = "nvram"

how can i fix this ?

My guess is that you have too much RAM allocated to PearPC. You have 0x38000000 (896MB) set. Unless you have 2GB of RAM, this is probably too much. I have always had trouble when I allocate more than 256MB of RAM (1/2 of my physical RAM)

Change that and change this:

prom_env_machargs = "-s"

to this:

prom_env_machargs = ""

The -s is only used for single user mode (which is comparable to safe mode on the PC) and you only use this to fix things.

what do you mean by crazy...is this an issue that can be fixed?

ever tried to play a (DirectX) strategy game (Ground Control 2, for one) with your Tablet Pen? that crazy :p

they'd need to change the way they handle mouse moving. which i think they won't :p

Just a side note.

Maybe its just me, but when I edit the config to this...

redraw_interval_msec = 1

It runs hella smooth. I see that some people have it set at 100 or 200 and that does you no justice. And setting it to "1" doesnt make loading times and worse either.

I just figured I'd mention that. :D

What's your ram, cpu, res you run OSX at, and version of OSX and PearPC.

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.

    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode.
