I think hte bar should be more focused on the user, with his private messages, search, control panel links etc. in it, or customizable, (choose page, choose icon).

If its skinnable it would be good too, not everyone wants a big black bar that doesn't fit the page on their screen :p

But somehow I still think that the different News section's latest headlines should be explicitly viewable, and not in tabs(although it is VERY nice), since we want a style that can be easily understood by new comers and without tabs there won't be a need to click aroudn just to get the headlines. But I guess if new sections are going to come in place, then I think we will have to resort to tabs. :)

The Tab structure should be IMO a Dynamic Flash Applet. That way the user can click on a tab and it'll to the right and letting the topics appear.
