cool, this program is so awesome..

showing my support :p

one thing though, can you have a confirmation dialog for the uninstall, today i accidentally clicked it and i had to redo the settings. lol not that big of an issue but just sayin...

also on my computer, the box that hte program runs in is a lil small, the weather.com logo gets cut off a bit at the bottom.

Yeah that would probably be a good idea. I'll also fix the logo. Thanks for the support ;)

OK folks, 2.2 has been skipped. I have completed a significant overhaul to the program, so it is only fair to call it 2.3, since much has been changed. Most of the changes are internal, in the form of better organization of the weather data, in preparation for the inclusion of detailed and hour-by-hour forecasts. One external change you might notice is that the cache directory will stop being so cluttered. It is recommended that you uninstall the program so that it can delete the junk that has probably accumulated from previous releases. Now, each location's cache is in its own directory, and when you change the location, the previous location's directory is deleted. In addition, all of the empty folders with the version number are kept in check as well. Their creation is outside of my control (they are created when I call the built-in method to retrieve the application data directory) but the current version's empty folder is deleted on exit.

I also have completely overhauled the radar system. I still consider it experimental at the moment, since I haven't done in-depth testing, so please alert me to any problems that occur; in the end it ought to be more stable. Radar is also cached now with an age of 30 minutes. The program also keeps track of the last radar image you were viewing when you exited the program, and restores it when you start the program again. A very small, if not handy, improvement. Please test out the radar and report back any problems.

So, the "to-do" list stands at this:

- implement hour - by - hour and detailed forecasts. this will replace the link to weather.com on the forecast pane

- implement full support of national weather service alerts. now you won't have to worry about getting killed by tornadoes, supernova ;), since it will be aware of and use the alerts from the national weather service. I'm fortunate that there happened to be a tropical storm (and thus a nws alert) while I was examining the XML feed, since that's how I found out how to use it.

Get it from the first page link, I am not putting this one through auto-updates until I've proven the efficacy of the new radar system. I am aware at the moment of some kinks when you are not connected to the internet.

Oh and BTW this version has basically full support for any font dpi (e.g. large fonts).

This is version 2.2.9.1, aka 2.3 Beta 1

umm, its sorta messed up for me its no in the try but its like the blue bar(minamize, maximize, exit) then everythign else is hidden and i can resize it wihich is a pain becasue i cant see anything >.<

any fix for that? :D

It would help if all of your words had all their letters; I'm guessing you mean that you tried restoring it from the tray and it got stuck as just the titlebar. Sometimes windows screws up when it restores the window and keeps it as a stupid little half title bar only. I have tried a few different things to fix it, so I suppose now I will try something different. In the next release it should hopefully be fully fixed.

whoops just got this pop-up after leaving the latest beta unattended for several hours.

That's extremely odd; it's certainly not a message I put in there, but it doesn't look like an official MS one; they're usually particular about formatting (i.e. capitalizing setup and not putting a period)

Also, it should throw a simple null reference exception. Very odd. Does anything look screwed up in the main window?

It would not open from the system tray.? The reason I knew it was WeatherAlert was because this error was in the taskbar titled "Setup Error" and the icon was a picture of a yellow sun.

That's very odd. To be honest I really have no idea what it could be from; I always have fail-safes when reading resources, and the error thrown is always a simple null reference, but I guess it is from my program. I guess I'll look it up on google and see what happens.

Ha, looks like this is not the only program with the error...this was on an airport scheduling screen in munich, apparently (I found it while looking for this error):

454993municherror.jpg

Unfortunately I have yet to find an instance of the cause of this error being resolved among the many instances I've read about. I assume you have v1.1 of the framework and all.

One thing you might try is going into administrative tools->.net framework 1.1 wizards ->fix an application and try throwing it in safemode or something

done....i will post if it happens again in safemode

Thanks again everyone; your support is appreciated.

Trajik-I will have a site for you to link to by tomorrow

Anyway, here's 2.3 beta 3 (version 2.2.9.3); get it on the main page. Enjoy.

New features: National weather alerts are now displayed when they are received. The program will play a thunder sound (this will be configurable eventually, of course), show a balloon tip, and the tray icon will blink. You can see the text of the alert where the forecast would normally be.

Next on the agenda: detailed forecasts; this will be somewhat involved, so it may take a little while. Play around and break this in the meantime ; )

    • I recently tried edge. It seems a lot better. A lot of the junk in it is gone. It seems less bloated and snappy.
    • Lethal fake phone chargers are still being sold on Amazon and eBay, UK watchdog warns by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels The UK consumer rights organization, Which?, is claiming that “potentially lethal knock-off chargers” are still being sold on online marketplaces seven years after it exposed the danger of these chargers. In its latest investigation, it bought 15 USB phone chargers from several online marketplaces and found they were missing key information, meaning they cannot be legally sold in the UK. Which? bought the 15 chargers from seven online marketplaces. These were Amazon (including Amazon Haul), AliExpress, B&Q Marketplace, Debenhams Marketplace, and eBay. It said that the chargers were so badly made that anyone using them was at risk of electric shock. Over half the chargers also posed fire and explosion risks. Of the chargers purchased, one was a fake Apple USB-C 35W power adaptor charger. To confuse buyers, the box was branded with an Apple logo, but testing found it to be a fake. Further testing picked up arcing sounds after 10 seconds of use, where a current jumps between two parts of the electrical circuit, which can cause fires, explosions, or electric shock. The manufacturers of this particular charger also put modeling clay inside it to make it feel more weighty, robust, and genuine. Not all of the chargers were technically faulty; however, some were missing key packaging, markings, and documentation, meaning they can’t be sold in the UK legally. Which? said that it is now campaigning alongside a coalition of safety groups and businesses for new laws that make online marketplaces responsible for ensuring the safety of products that they choose to list on their websites. It also said the government needs to start using powers under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act, which was adopted last July, to impose safety requirements on online marketplaces via secondary legislation, but so far, there have been delays. No matter what country you are in, be sure to properly research what you are buying and only buy authentic chargers to prevent fires. You can read more about Which?’s research here.
    • Visual Studio finally gets long-awaited feature that developers will love by Usama Jawad Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's popular, lightweight, open-source code editor, it is actually Visual Studio that is the company's flagship integrated development environment (IDE). Although the IDE already offers a boatload of useful features for developers, Microsoft has finally introduced a long-requested capability that will be loved by many. While developers have already been able to create Git pull requests (PRs) directly within Visual Studio for the past couple of years, it had not been possible to review a PR without switching to the browser, until now. Microsoft revealed in December 2025 that it is working on UX that enables developers to do just that, and fast-forward to June 2026, and Visual Studio finally has native capabilities to open and inspect a PR, discuss feedback, and wrap up the review, all without switching to the browser. This integration works for both GitHub and Azure DevOps (including on-prem). Developers have access to multiple surfaces to open a PR, including Git Repository, Git Changes, and the Git menu in Visual Studio. Once you open a PR, all the important details will be immediately visible to you, from where you can navigate to various levels of granularity and branch states, depending on the reviews that you are engaged in. As you would expect, you also get a diff view that enables you to see code changes inline or side-by-side in a separate panel. You can also review commit-by-commit. Additionally, this UX fosters collaboration as you can leave comments, reply to threads, and resolve conversations easily. Naturally, you can also leverage Copilot to apply a code suggestion to fix a potential issue. When you are done, you have the ability to approve, complete, and merge the PR. This is a pretty major feature as it has been requested heavily for the past few years. You can try it out in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, made available here recently. Microsoft plans to enhance this experience further in future releases with comment filtering, a timeline of PR activity, and more.
