Excellent! Thanks for the tray Icon changes!!

With the toolbar, I am talking about something like the buttons that Outlook has on the side to bring up the different views (contacts, mail, etc.) except yours would be to show the radar, extended info, and forecast. You could use a collapsable splitter/side window, or just have an option to show the toolbar if wanted. (this is just to make it easier to use for children and computerphobic spouses)

why does the system tray "Condition" icon have a transparent background and the "tempurature" icon have a solid background? Is there a way to make it transparent also?

very good program otherwise though....you seem to have fixed all the bugs before I start to care about them.....

except one: the program doesnt seem to handle loss of internet connectivity during an update very gracefully. I regularly lose my net connection and im not always around to reset the router so when i get back the weather program has displayed *TONS* of error message prompts and I cant cancel them...I end up having to killing the program manually.

Because one single color will not behave well with both light and dark colored taskbars; I will somehow work it in there as an option (you have to give me credit for continuing to cram all these settings in there without making a mess ;)).

Hey, I have to be able to use it too ; )

I will test that and try to fix it; I thought I was handling them gracefully but I haven't tested it as such in a while.

edit: I see what you mean; I had since altered the radar imaging...I seem to have been shortsighted about connectivity within it. You know, this is why I put the error reporting feature in...at any rate it's fixed; use the auto update feature...let me know if that works for everyone too (it should, but I don't make multiple-version hops because I can't think far enough ahead to keep old versions; besides I often release little tweaks to that too as I go along).

OK I've release version 2.2 beta. Lots of changes; I'll release it via auto-updates once I've completed testing. You can download it on the main page.

Changes in this version:

- color settings for tray icon temperature now has a full GUI (including transparency ability)

- changelog is now successfully cropped, so that it displays only changes since your version

- only one progress bar for animated radar

- eliminate download of static weather before animated

- some improvements and fixes with respect to how animated weather is handled when it is hidden and reshown

- fixed problems relating to selection of menus and such when window is resizing

- added ability to remove secondary location

- small improvements with the tray icon with respect to showing and exiting the settings dialog

- forecast now has link to weather.com forecast/weather data as requested

- added a "view toolbar" as requested

Main thing that needs testing is the view toolbar...try it out and let me know how it works!

Also you can hide the ads: you need to create HKCU\SolSoft\WeathAlert\EnableAdHiding and set it to true. There will then be an entry in "Preferences".

umm when i choose forecast mode close it to tray and load it back it comes up all crunched up....

but when i choose it again its normal and if i do the same thing again it gets messed up again...

oh and another thing... in how much time does it update the temp?... and is there a way to change the next check it says 10:47 for the next update...

I haven't labeled it version 2.2 yet. 2.1.16xx.xxxxx is 2.2 Beta. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway I've released another small update; status bar now has icons, and the view toolbar's "forecast" and "radar" icons now change state to reflect whether they will be below or next to the extended info.

This is version 2.1.1652.24756

If all goes well I'll release 2.2 fully tomorrow; it will then show up in auto-updates. Then I would deem it ready to be listed on the front page if you still desire to do so, Mr.Magoo. Let me know if you have any issues, and make sure to send error reports so I can fix crashes...I can't test every situation, and although I've tried to make it robust, some quirks do occasionally come up.

No it's, not intentional, I just keep neglecting to fix it, and keep hoping that no one has 3 digit temperatures. I figured the small cutoff would be a decent tradeoff for legibility's sake. I will fix it though, perhaps by using a different font.

If I can offer one more piece of feedback?

It looks like the temperature in the systray is the forecasted temperature and not the actual current temperature. Would it make more sense to display the current temp instead? That would be my preference.

/edit.. fyi.. the temp in the tray updated when I exited and restarted the app. bug?

something else I just found... see picture. The right line of the box that goes around the "nighttime forecast" disappears when on the Today tab. All the other tabs have the line present.

FYI.. I love this app. I'm not trying to rag on it.. I just do SQA for a living  trying to help make this app perfect :)

/edit .. this line just appeared but it was after I changed to different views quite a few times. It seems the auto-sizing of the window performs differently if you change views quite a bit.

also, if you're in any of the different views, the bottom most box line seems to be too low and actually touches the status bar.

Don't worry spyder, I appreciate you telling me about the problems so I can fix them. The problem for me is that since I'm continually working on it, I tend not to notice problems with the app being open for a long time (since I'm constantly compiling and running new versions). The temperature in the tray bug probably has to do with the timer that normally draws the icons when you have both enabled (which I'm guessing you don't)...when it updates the data, I seem to have forgotten to have it call that update (since normally the timer would handle it). As for the right-side night forecast, I'll have to examine that. Does it start out fine and then become like that after a while, or is it like that from the start?

As for the bottom box touching status bar issue, I think I see what you mean (the view toolbar being higher from the bottom than the others, which I've already fixed) but I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to.

At any rate, thanks for the feedback...I want it to be perfect too!

Aha, finally figured out the bug with the right side of the night forecast...how it works is, if the daytime forecast is hidden because it's past the daytime, it resizes the nighttime to take up the whole thing. Well if the main window is hidden, technically, the daytime forecast is hidden too...so it was making it the large size instead of normal. I couldn't figure out why it was saying the daytime forecast was hidden...grr!

Great program! Does it work on computers with dialup access. I am asking because I am experiencing problems trying to get this wonderful program to connect to the net.

When I check for updates, I get:

Error checking for updates.  Could not download version data.

and when I try to get it to check weather for my local town, Mt Morgan, I get the following error:

weather.jpg

I thought it was the firewall but I shut that down to try but it did not still work. What would be the problem? :(

    • Lethal fake phone chargers are still being sold on Amazon and eBay, UK watchdog warns by Paul Hill Credit: Pexels The UK consumer rights organization, Which?, is claiming that “potentially lethal knock-off chargers” are still being sold on online marketplaces seven years after it exposed the danger of these chargers. In its latest investigation, it bought 15 USB phone chargers from several online marketplaces and found they were missing key information, meaning they cannot be legally sold in the UK. Which? bought the 15 chargers from seven online marketplaces. These were Amazon (including Amazon Haul), AliExpress, B&Q Marketplace, Debenhams Marketplace, and eBay. It said that the chargers were so badly made that anyone using them was at risk of electric shock. Over half the chargers also posed fire and explosion risks. Of the chargers purchased, one was a fake Apple USB-C 35W power adaptor charger. To confuse buyers, the box was branded with an Apple logo, but testing found it to be a fake. Further testing picked up arcing sounds after 10 seconds of use, where a current jumps between two parts of the electrical circuit, which can cause fires, explosions, or electric shock. The manufacturers of this particular charger also put modeling clay inside it to make it feel more weighty, robust, and genuine. Not all of the chargers were technically faulty; however, some were missing key packaging, markings, and documentation, meaning they can’t be sold in the UK legally. Which? said that it is now campaigning alongside a coalition of safety groups and businesses for new laws that make online marketplaces responsible for ensuring the safety of products that they choose to list on their websites. It also said the government needs to start using powers under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act, which was adopted last July, to impose safety requirements on online marketplaces via secondary legislation, but so far, there have been delays. No matter what country you are in, be sure to properly research what you are buying and only buy authentic chargers to prevent fires. You can read more about Which?’s research here.
    • Visual Studio finally gets long-awaited feature that developers will love by Usama Jawad Visual Studio Code is Microsoft's popular, lightweight, open-source code editor, it is actually Visual Studio that is the company's flagship integrated development environment (IDE). Although the IDE already offers a boatload of useful features for developers, Microsoft has finally introduced a long-requested capability that will be loved by many. While developers have already been able to create Git pull requests (PRs) directly within Visual Studio for the past couple of years, it had not been possible to review a PR without switching to the browser, until now. Microsoft revealed in December 2025 that it is working on UX that enables developers to do just that, and fast-forward to June 2026, and Visual Studio finally has native capabilities to open and inspect a PR, discuss feedback, and wrap up the review, all without switching to the browser. This integration works for both GitHub and Azure DevOps (including on-prem). Developers have access to multiple surfaces to open a PR, including Git Repository, Git Changes, and the Git menu in Visual Studio. Once you open a PR, all the important details will be immediately visible to you, from where you can navigate to various levels of granularity and branch states, depending on the reviews that you are engaged in. As you would expect, you also get a diff view that enables you to see code changes inline or side-by-side in a separate panel. You can also review commit-by-commit. Additionally, this UX fosters collaboration as you can leave comments, reply to threads, and resolve conversations easily. Naturally, you can also leverage Copilot to apply a code suggestion to fix a potential issue. When you are done, you have the ability to approve, complete, and merge the PR. This is a pretty major feature as it has been requested heavily for the past few years. You can try it out in Visual Studio 2026 version 18.7, made available here recently. Microsoft plans to enhance this experience further in future releases with comment filtering, a timeline of PR activity, and more.
