That's a fallacy. My Radeon 9600SE is three generations ago (now that the next round is about to launch), and it still runs Doom III, HL2, and anything else I throw at it. The only thing I've had to upgrade in three years has been a larger harddrive.

Here's my specs:

Compaq Presario 6400NX ($400, best buy) 1.5 ghz AMD Althon, 512 mb ram,

120GB Maxtor HD ($60, Craig's List)

Radeon 9600SE ($80, Microcenter)

M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Sound card (Free, since it came out of my last system).

Monitor is from work, some old IBM CRT.

Not the latest and greatest by any means. One more year, then I strip out the parts and move to another, juicier compaq. Now, to stay on the bleeding edge, true, you do need some cash, but to just play games, any halfway decent system will do.

So, let's test the logic here. I buy a $400 computer, upgrade it over time, and end up $540 down, and able to play any PC game available, surf the web, do work, etc.

I buy and Xbox, $180 right now, but two years ago? It came out at $250, right? What's the projected price for the Xbox2? Let's say $250. So to stay current, it's the same outlay over four years, plus a forced upgrade to a new console, and you need Xbox live to go online.

What's a better deal here?

GET PS2, if you can't get a PS2 get A PC. All other consoles suck like mad!

    • The level of stupidity at Google and Microsoft is beyond belief. All they are doing by killing this is forcing people to jump over to Firefox and ditch them all together, therefore giving Firefox the market boost it needs to finally crush them all in the end.
