The pre-release versions of WU are for testing purposes only! Please do not depend on pre-release versions of WU to help keep your computer secure and up to date; if you are not a Windows XP SP2 beta program participant, go to the <http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/> site. If you are part of the Windows XP SP2 beta program, please take extra care regarding computer security, as you will not be able to visit the WU v4 site. Special Registry Key A script is available in the WU section of BetaPlace. Please note that any modification to your PC's registry can create issues. Do not run this script on a production computer or any computer holding critical data. 1. To download the script, click BetaPlace <https://beta.microsoft.com>. 2. Log in using your passport. 3. Click the Windows Update link. 4. Click the Downloads link in the left pane. 5. Click the ssrk_edw.zip link. 6. Follow the directions for the download application. 7. After the file is downloaded, unzip it. 8. Double-click the ssrk_edw.reg file to set the key in your registry. Once you have completed these steps, you should be offered Windows Update SP2 when you visit the WU site. Depending on your settings, AU may also offer build 2162. Please visit the BetaPlace site and ensure your contact information is up to date. We want to be able to invite you to participate in future beta programs. While at BetaPlace, please complete the survey located under the Survey link in the left pane of the WU section. The WU beta team will continue to send out news updates. Please send content suggestions to wuv5beta@microsoft.com <mailto:wuv5beta@microsoft.com>. If you have comments regarding the layout or content of the WU beta pages, please post them to the newsgroup or send them to wuv5beta@microsoft.com <mailto:wuv5beta@microsoft.com>. Spyder Veteran Posted July 16, 2004 Veteran Share Posted July 16, 2004 If I attach it. I'll get into trouble with the mods. Won't I? I guess you could always send it to me personally :) Regarding getting in trouble and such.. I don't know. The opinions on this stuff are always widely varied. Personally I see this as okay, though I'm sure some of my colleagues would disagree.

Steven
Well if this needs to be removed go ahead. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\M5Deployment] "XPSP2"="6E7EA86C-BBC2-476A-8C68-FA5474577712" Save that as a .reg file using notepad and merge it to your registry. Run WUv5.
