WMP 10 is Released

n00b question: will WMP10 fully update my WMP9 or will I need to uninstall WMP9 in other to make it clean?

f(~_~)

You can't uninstall WMP9 really, all it does is do a system restore to mess up your system

So the simple answer is: No, you don't have to, just install right on top

You cant install this on any machine other than Xp

Win2003 version should be out in a few months.

You can hack the msi file (using Orca) to install it.

It works with no problems but I am sure you don't want to install this on a production server.

I do think it is kind of funny that they are loading Windows 2003 Server up with multimedia capabilities and such. I guess if I was running a server, I'd want it to be totally lean and clean, without DirectX even. I'd only be using it for file and print serving, so guess I could not see a need for all that fancy stuff they have on the Client side.

Finally, I know the reason why the red X appeared in new WMP... Here is the screen shot of WMP 10 English version under Korean language set... ok no problem on butterfly !!

I think Microsft doesn't luanch official online music page yet .. it still beta ..

So, All of man who don't see the butterfly never worry about red X button ...

The time is the key ...

Remember Windows Media Server is a part of 2003 (not sure if it a enterprise only a option however)

So all the directx components to handle the media files need to be available.

Media Player is just a shell that uses the base system components.

Any way you use GDI only and disable DirectX functionality by changing the Video Acceleration.

j/k. Remove it then :blink::

ive been trying to remove it.

aside from add/remove windows components or add/remove programs (which hasnt helped) there is a command-line uninstall, but i dont know what it is.

ive tried re-installing it / removing & re-installing and still it will not work at all.

One of the core libraries (cURL) has been updated to address vulnerabilities and a nasty linker error that was causing the need for a dedicated patch which could now be eliminated.
