Bah, thanks, I'll have to look into that printer crash. Hopefully I can bring back the drag file into window area soon. Right now, because of the abnormalities of the .net 2 framework, it leaves a damn file link in the text area that I can't seem to remove programmatically.

is this compatible with .nfo and .diz files?

I know notepad is but at times the nfo art is messed up and only look good in the

DAMNFO viewer.

Also maybe get it to hav an option were it uses Microsoft Office spell check and the wordpad Replace all?

It should work pretty well with those files. Spell checking will probably not be an option, but replace all already exists in the replace bar.

I really want to get the next version out, but the current beta of .net 2.0 has a huge bug in which mdi form activated events don't always fire. This app relies on that event majorly, so I am stuck until the bug is fixed. It's been documented so MS is aware of it and has supposedly fixed it on internal versions.

 private void frmMain_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
 {
 ?// Checking if the process is already running.
 ?if (System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName(Application.ProductName).Length > 1)
 ?{
 ? // If application is already running.
 ? MessageBox.Show("An instance of this application is already running");
 ? // Exit the application.
 ? Application.Exit();
 ?}
 ?else
 ?{
 ? // Do all as befor.
 ?}
 }

But there is something right with that code, when there are more than one people on the computer and they use fast user switching, because if one user has your program running the secord user can not use your prog:(mat all.. :(

You should only check is there is another instance running in the same session, to handle the FUS scenario.

You can report bugs, yes. I will be referring to this thread when I start work on it again. If you are going to report a bug where it crashes saying invalid index, please don't, though. That's a bug caused by the failure of the firing of the activated() event. There's nothing I can do about that until MS fixes it. Like I said, it's been acknowledged by them, so it should be fixed inthe next release. Any other bugs, please do report them.

Allright :)

Here they come...

1. Bug: default font size is too big.

Two workarounds available:

- Edit settings.xml and change the dot <fontSize>9.75</fontSize> into a comma.

- Change font settings in the application

2. Bug: Pasting text in Find bar, using Ctrl+V does not work.

Current workaround:

- rightclick in the inputbox and choose paste

3. Bug: Find feature doesn't work 100%

If I have text in the clipboard and paste it and search, it works.

When I then select some other text and press "Next", it flashes the new selected text.

There was also something with an empty inputbox but I can't reproduce that at the moment.

4. Request: when selecting text and launching the Find feature, make the selected text appear in the inputbox

5. Request: when the focus is in the Find inputbox, make pressing ESC close the bar (FireFox style)

6. Request: make a context menu appear when you rightclick a tab. With items: minimize, maximize, restore, close, reload file

7. Request: replace empty "Untitled" tabs with manually opened files.

Can you reduce the flashing (when switching, minimizing, maximizing, closing pads)? Please do if it's possible.

1) Default font is size 10 tahoma. I won't go any smaller

2) I'll look at that, not sure why it won't work.

3) Again, will have to look at that. The problem comes with you selecting text when you shouldn't be.

4) Good idea

5) Good idea

6) Funny thing, they are in there, I don't know why they aren't working. I have to look at that. It's probably something small

7) I don't think I'l lchange that behavior.

The flashing is part of .net 2.0 behavior, I'm not sure if I can fix it.

Update: well, for 0.5 I already fixed #6. I have no idea where that one line of code went lol.

1) Are you sure the size is 10? Hint: Check the settings.xml in the archive.

3) What if I want to compare or remember a piece of text? That's why I select, so my eyes can focus and remember.

7) Allright. No big deal.

3) for three, use the highlight option. That's why I put it in. Ill tweak the behavior some, but its pretty similar to how notepad does it already.

Allright.

Another suggestion:

Get rid of the Pads menu. Put the 3 first items in the file menu.

There are so many things you could add.

I'll name some:

- Go To Line. Ctrl+G

- Execute/Launch/Start current file. Ctrl+L

- Bookmark lines. F2 = go to next bookmark, Shift+F2 = go to previous bookmark, Ctrl+F2 = toggle bookmark on/off

- convert selected text: uppercase, lowercase, sentence

- File history/ recent files list

- Line: duplicate (Ctrl+D), move up/down (Ctrl+Shift+Up or ...Down), delete (Ctrl+E maybe)

- auto-indent

- (un)indent block of text using (Shift+)TAB

- choice to use spaces instead of tabs for the indenting

- line numbers bar visible left of the window.

all of that stuff is not what I want this app to be. I clearly stated I want it to remain a simple piece of software to basically be a notepad with tabs. I don't want all that extra stuff.

Too bad. Your application looks mature enough to have those features.

I guess if I want something badly, I need to do it myself. I definitely will.

Good luck with your project.

It's not "too bad" at all though. There are a billion apps out there, designed by more skilled programmers, that do exactly what you need. I went with the simple approach because its what I like and it's different from all the other "all in one" notepad apps.

Bangbang023 you should revise your settings.xml file.

As fontsize you use a double (9.75 in this case), this can result in pretty weird things.

Some countries use the comma to as a decimal sign, others use a point. In this case when your PC uses a comma it will screw up and blow the text size out of proportions (as it simply reads 975 instead of 9.75).

So in your settings.xml file you can better set it to 10 or something else as long as it is an integer. This way it will never go wrong.

0.5 won't be release til the framework goes final, I'm thinking. It'll be best that way, for everyone. It will come, I promise. I haven't done much work on it recently, but it has a decent amount of work (for such a small project) in it since 0.4 already, so anything from here on out will be tinkering.

    • Google are hyprocrites for signing this. They have been pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft, only they do it on Android and ChromeOS.
    • In some countries the law has forced Microsoft to display a menu on a fresh install of Windows which asks which web browser you want and it will install that browser. This doesn't add any bloat to Windows. It simply an additional step when setting up a new PC.
    • Chrome is also a first party browser on Android and ChromeOS. And on those systems, Google is pulling the same dirty tactics as Microsoft does on Windows.
    • Unofficial script lets you install unreleased Windows 11 features without Microsoft Account by Sayan Sen Microsoft has been steadily evolving the Windows Insider Program over the years, introducing new channels and testing paths that allow enthusiasts to experience upcoming and yet-to-be-released Windows features (some interesting hidden ones too) before they reach the public. However, one long-standing requirement has remained largely unchanged as users are generally expected to enroll in the Program and with a Microsoft account. That's where a third-party tool called "OfflineInsiderEnroll" can help. OfflineInsiderEnroll is said to be a lightweight script that enables access to Windows Insider Program builds on systems that are not signed in with a Microsoft account. Essentially the tool configures the necessary Insider settings locally and hence allows users to select and switch between available preview channels while continuing to receive builds through the normal Windows Update channel. If you are wondering how it manages to do so, it is made possible by a Registry value known as TestFlags. When configured to"0x20", Windows stops communicating with Microsoft's online Insider enrollment services thus preventing locally configured Insider settings from being overwritten. This allows the script to apply its own channel configuration directly through the Registry as Windows Update does not verify whether a device has been officially enrolled in the Insider Program or not. Previously the utility has had already supported the traditional Insider branches including Dev, Beta, and Release Preview. However following Microsoft’s recent restructuring of its preview channels, the script has now been updated. The latest OfflineInsiderEnroll version, 2.6.6, adds support for the newly introduced Insider channel lineup. As such, users can now choose from several Experimental channels in addition to Beta and Release Preview options. The update also retains tools for refreshing the Insider cache, resetting Insider settings, and completely stopping Insider enrollment when needed. Keep in mind though that will need elevated privileges when running the script (run as Admin). You can get the latest version of OfflineInsiderEnroll from this page on its official GitHub repo.
