[Review] Logitech z-5500

Recommended Posts

One thing is that my motherboard's optical connection doesnt make the sound touch control centre show the 96/24 symbol, I tested the audigy 2 zs with its 96khz digital out signal, and then its 48khz digital out signal, the 48khz was horrible and the 96khz was quite nice, the way it sounds now with optical sounds pretty much the same as the 96khz.

hey i just got mine (from amazon) and i'm taking them out of the box. there huge! im gonna have to get used to them for awhile. I can't set them up yet since amazon didn't ship my audigy 2 zs yet so i have to wait. i'm a little sad because I got the old wires but there not that bad, are they? they won't take away from sound, right?

I just got mine too (also from amazon). I couldn't be happier.

Everything i've read in this thread says that the speakers were using RCA inputs instead of standard speaker wiring...well, mine takes standard speaker wiring.

Is this a new revision?

Edit: Nevermind, i'm an idiot.

quick question, I currently have the Z-5500's and the Z-2300's in my house so I said what the hell and hooked them up side by side to my Audigy 2 ZS, my 5500's using digital coax and my 2300's using the standard Lime hook up. I'm wondering if having the 2 subs really close to each other (less than a foot) would cause any damage considering how powerful their magnets are?

Btw this sounds absolutely AMAZING! :D

Audigy LS. Yes, I set the audio option to SPDIF passthrough in the Device Control. And its not the constant hissing you get when you play it on something that can't decode DTS. It's like it's decoding very badly and the songs are in the from of pops and cracks instead of words and melodies. :(

anychance its the internal wiring from your cd-rom to your sound card?

Hi guys

I have ordered these speakers and was just wondering about how to go about connecting them.

Basically, I have a nforce3 shuttle (SN95G5) which has optical out and RCA digital out aswell as the normal 3 miniplug sockets. which would i be best to use? I was advised that buying a card such as the audigy 2 ZS would make my music sound a lot better and take strain off the CPU during games, and that the digital/optical on my shuttle was only useful for DVDs. What do you guys think? Do i invest in a ZS and fiddle about with adaptors or just stick with what I've got? I use the system for mp3's (usually 256kbps), DVDs and games (stuff like CS:S, HL2 DM etc)

couldnt of asked a better person, I've tested it both ways, read that thread

Interesting.  So are you saying that if I don't already have the ZS then it's not worth me spending ?45 on one?

When it comes to using digital out it's gonna be pretty much the same, depending if your onboard sound supports dts 96/24, my onboard didn't so the symbol doesnt show on the logitech control centre unless im doing the Audigy 2 ZS digital out.

I have to admit though I'm not a fan of the Pro Logic 2 presets, I can't get it to be the way I like it so I end up using the 6 channel direct most of the time, that way I get my music the way I like it. Stereox2 kinda sucks cause you cant get the centre speaker to play anything, and the Pro Logic presets simulate surround sound so the rear's arent really used that much, so its not as loud.

Does your motherboard use Soundstorm? If so don't bother with the audigy at all cause it's just as good. But if you find yourself in the same case as me and want to use 6 channel direct then the creative software is quite nice.

Nvidia dropped soundstorm as it was getting too expensive to keep the license IIRC, so my board has the Realtek 650F (I think) codec. Supposedly not that fabulous...

I think I'll test each socket out when I get my speakers (weekend) and then make a decision. Cheers for the help.

I was just wondering if it would be worth buying this to use it as a home theater system in a small room. I am planning on using them to listen to music from my computer and watch movies from a dvd player.

Besides the cableing would I have to buy any other hardware to experience the digital stuff for movies.

Sorry don't know much about audio

Thanks for your responses in advance

It would probably be a good system for you. There's no other hardware that you would need to buy except for the necessary cable to hook things like the DVD player up.

anyone else try using a higher brand speaker wire yet?

I'm using these

it definetly feels a lot nicer than the included speaker wire but I doubt it makes a big difference.

i'm using this stuff but only for one satellite speaker because the one speaker is a bit further than the rest and the in box wire wouldn't reach. i can't really tell that it makes a big difference but the monster wire is rated for the wattage that the z-5500 puts out.

u have to set it to 2.1 speakers when using spdif passthrough with a miniplug.

    • Can you read? I've said I'm willing to pay more for a notchless (no notch) 3:2 screen.
    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.
    • make your own notch - it's not that hard

Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
