Cool thanks for the responses. I was about to by them at amazon for 269.99, but they have just listed a vendor by the name of Altech which sells them for 299.99. How can I make sure they are the ones with regular speaker cables since I am planning on mounting them on the wall.

Thanks for the help

I'm 100% sure you are setting up the speakers wrong. Sending back the speakers is a total waste of effort and money at this point. Please just read the last half of this thread, at least since 99% of the issues faced have been faced and resolved.

Believe me when I tell you that reading this thread will solve ALL of your problems and teach you how to properly use these speakers in any given set up.

Really, just grab yourself a nice drink, sit back, and read.

jsfk01, there is no need to return your speakers. All you are doing is setting it up wrong. First, you do not need an adapter for the coaxial cable on nVidia soundstorm motherboards. Secondly, return the coaxial cable and the adapter and get an optical, the motherboard you have has an optical connection that you can use for digital sound. There is no coaxial input on that motherboard. The optical input is black and you take out the cap to plug in the cable.

I'm assuming your motherboard has SPDIF input.

hi ok i will try to read up on the other posts.the reason i wanted to ask u guys first was cos i have very slow net connection so i thought i would just tell u what i did and maybe get some responses.oh ya dennis yes i do have optical cable.yep the coaxial doesnt work so i connected the optical cable from my mobo to the optical port in the control pod.i didnt use the analog jacks provided.still the sound is really low ESPECIALLY the bass.all the functions are working like dts and dolby digital(for dvds) plII etc.i just wanna reconfirm with u guys....the z5500 is much stronger than the 680s arnt they?cos honestly speaking my 5500s are much lower compared to my old 680s in terms of volume and bass performance.so im thinking something must be wrong somewhere.i will go and read the rest of the forums now but yeah just letting u all know my setup.im using the sstorm onboard soundcard and the abit nf7-S mobo.i think i have connected everything correctly in terms of cables and stuff.so any help would be great thanks.

when used properly these speakers are better than any other logitech model hands down. (on par with 680's)

keep playing around with your setup, make sure your settings are correct, and make sure you read this thread. you should slowly make progress.

uhh what? the z5500s have a whopping 5 more watts than your z680s

ok ive read thru all the posts and i discovered:

1)no one here seems to have the problem im having which is very very low sound especially in terms of bass.(im using optical connection by the way)

2)not many ppl are using sstorm here(im using them).most of them use audigy2.and the ppl who are using sstorm arnt getting much probs from what i can see in here.

so if theres anyone out there who can help me out that would be great.i have decided to keep the speakers still and not send them back just yet.here are the pics of my connections and stuff. If anyone can tell me what i have done wrong that would be great cos I have exhausted all my efforts reassembling it and reading thru these forums with my slow connection.thanks guys heaps!oh ya im in australia if thats any help:)

Sorry, I got the price wrong.  They are selling for 229.00 by altech on amazon.

i know it's a bit late but if you haven't ordered them yet you can get them on newegg for about $267. with shipping it came out to about $299 and it came super quick.

it also has the standard speaker wire and not the proprietary speaker cable.

watched the incredibles on this and it was incredible.

are you referring to the bass set by the POD for the z-5500 or the bass set by the software mixer (in this case your nVidia mixer)?

the bass or subwoofer controlled by the z-5500 pod should come through clearly even when turned all the way up. i'm not sure about the mixer setting. i've bumped my up in my creative mixer (there are two settings, one for bass and one for treble) and even just raising the bass level above the threshold causes distortion.

when i first got my speaker system i didn't think that this was abnormal and now that i read it from someone who has a different soundcard and setup but having the same problem i feel confident that i was right.

yes i hav selected the dolby digital live dennis.in the pod it says that its got DD when im connected with the optical cable.i also used the speaker wuzard.the sound is the same.iknow what u mean when u say tat u get distortion when u just pump it out alil.but trust me for mine even when i pump it to max on the bass level its just equal to like 2 bars of bass for the 680s.Now u know why im so confused here.and plasko i did try using the direct channel jacks and its the same theres no diffrence in the bass level.when i put the bass at the lowest setting its like a small thud almost non existent:(((.this shouldnty be the case as i remember 1 bar on the 680s would get ma room already vibrating just alil bit im sure u all know what i mean.helllpppp!!!

i turned evrithing up on both the pod and the nvmixer.its still the same.no distortion whatsoever.the bass is too low in intensity.my room is not even vibrating at the max volume!no thumping whatsoever:(

Maybe return it in exchange for another set. It sounds like it might be a defective one if you tried everything.

    • I think it depends on what you're looking for to do, and the time you have to spare. With my Dwarf 3, I easily spend 3-4 hour sessions; half an hour driving to an un-light polluted place, another half hour unpacking and setting up the smart scope + tripod for equatorial tracking, then 15 more minutes mucking around with settings and shooting calibration frames, spending a few hours shooting, merging with past photo sessions, etc. It's crazy how time flies and I often get home later than I expected. It's something I still need to set aside a good part of an evening to do, all in all. For one session, where you often need like four for best results when it comes to deep space objects. Even with a smart scope like Dwarf 3, regular non-astro photography is still way more approachable to people getting into photography. I find this is a time consuming niche no matter how I go about it. With practice, I can probably begin cutting time here but I think where smart scopes find their home is among people who love to shoot the night sky but don't have the spare time to go deep with the "navigator level" attunement to the night sky itself in addition to everything else. Having said this, _if_ you have even more time to spend on this hobby, it will probably be even more rewarding to do it more by hand and learn the skies and the details of how it all works.

    • Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn't to blame by Sayan Sen Last month Neowin reported on a major issue on Dell systems wherein a bug in its official support tool was leading to endless blue screen of death (BSOD) and restarts. Following our report, Dell officially acknowledged its SupportAssist-related crash issue, confirming that the culprit is not Microsoft's operating system but rather a faulty version of its own remediation software. In a newly published support advisory, Dell stated that version 5.5.16.0 of Dell SupportAssist Remediation and Alienware SupportAssist Remediation can trigger blue screen errors and unexpected system restarts. The company notes that the problematic component operates independently of the main SupportAssist application, meaning users should not remove the primary SupportAssist software when troubleshooting the issue. According to Dell, the crashes are linked specifically to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which is bundled with SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools, and as such it has since released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, which is said to resolve the problem. Affected users are advised to first verify whether version 5.5.16.0 is installed by checking the Installed Apps section in Windows Settings. If so, Dell recommends updating SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools through either SupportAssist's "Update Software" feature or Dell Command Update. Dell also advises users to back up important data before performing the update and to ensure systems remain connected to power throughout the installation process. If you are still having issues though make sure to report to the Dell support forum. As it turns out though Dell is not the only PC maker currently dealing with update-related headaches as HP is also facing a separate but probably equally frustrating issue involving recent Windows Secure Boot updates that were released with recent Windows 11 Patch Tuesdays. Similar to Dell, HP also put up its own support article where it explains the issue. The company says that affected devices could hit a brick wall when booting as they run into a BitLocker recovery loop after the April 2026 updates. The problem appears to affect systems wherein the new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply properly. As such affected users will find themselves entering their recovery key over and over again despite the system otherwise functioning normally. HP says such PCs should be updated to the latest available BIOS version and configured with the necessary Secure Boot certificates before installing Microsoft's Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. Systems that are already experiencing the problem may require BIOS configuration changes to restore normal boot behavior. Admins can find information regarding that in the support article here on HP's official website.

    • If its the devs fault you would think Unreal would help M$ take full advantage of Unreal and work with them to fix the performance issues. Otherwise they are catching unwarranted bad press.
