[Review] Logitech z-5500

Recommended Posts

My speakers won't work anymore today as I normally switch the master switch on or off as I get humming noise from the Subwoofer, no Standby light or anything. I checked the main fuse and theirs no continuity just stays at 1 on my multimeter.

Man this fuse only lasted me for 2 months from new .

What size, type and power of fuse am I meant to get?

I originally thought that the control center had lots of inputs on the back so I could hook up my dvd player to it for sound. Guess they don't have any inputs ;(

You can always flick the switch down to Stereo 1-3 and it'll give you 3 extra independant inputs. But your dvd should be connected by coax or optical if you want the control centre to decode the signal

Doesn't your dvd player have optical or coax connections? If it does, you connect it that way. Consoles also have those connections, though you may need to buy an accessory or something.

logitech needs to put a disclaimer, the master switch is NOT meant to be turned on and off almost everytime you turn off the speakers for a good amount of time. Everytime you turn off your PC do you turn off your power switch as well? it works the same way.

Ive 'Broke' 2 sets doing this lol.

The fuse is a no name white little thing. Not a 'normal' size fuse like the ones in Plugs (UK)

I think it says 270V.

Logitech need to sort this.

I will unplug mine in future, im not touching that Master Switch :|

Just out of interest, what connections do people use with their speakers?  I've currently only got optical plugged in, but I'm wondering if the 6ch direct sounds better for music and games etc.  Anyone?

6-Channel direct is better for games, but Digital (Coax, optical) is better for everything else. Reason for 6-Ch Direct being better for games is because games do not support Dolby digital or dts. Unreal 2K4 does, but its a different type. So use 6-Channel direct for games, and Digital for DVD's, Music, and everything else :)

What are you talking about? It DOES have lots of inputs. In addition to the analog connections (which can be used as a single 6.1 connection or three independent stereo connections), there is a coax digital and an optical digital connection. Both of those digital connections are on almost every DVD player made.

Liquid or anyone else with these speakers, can you hear a buzz/hum coming from your subwoofer if you put your ear near it? I just bought a set and have them hooked up in my home theatre room, there is a distinct hum coming from the subwoofer even without it being hooked up to any source.

I'm really thinking about getting a set of these for my graduation present. Only thing is, starting next fall I will be living in a dorm and I'm not sure if these will be worth it since I can't really set them up in such a way to get the full effect. Right now I have Klipsch Promedia 2.1's...

Mine doesn't do that. It sounds like it has dirty power. Try plugging it into a different power strip. Otherwise, you may have a defective set.

Well that could be an issue and people complaining about you at like 25% volume.

I never heard a buzzing hum coming from my subwoofer and thats the first thing I looked for when I got these. I was on a cheap power bar at first but now im on a 1000joule surge protector and theres no real difference.

I also live in a college dorm room and Ive had the Z-5300's, Z-2300's, and now the Z-5500's, still a blast :) Definetly recommended to anyone that can afford.

Visual Refinements: Corrected visual gaps when pinned, fixed zoom anchor offsets, and restored smooth horizontal auto-scrolling. Dual-Mode Slideshow Spotlight Mode: Added a slideshow mode inspired by Picasa Spotlight, which dims the background and focuses on the active image. Normal Mode: Standard fullscreen slideshow functionality. Fully Customizable Hotkeys Custom Keyboard Mapping: Added support for completely customizing and rebinding all core keyboard shortcuts and navigation hotkeys directly within the Settings menu. UI/UX Adjustments & Window Snapping Magnetic Snapping (#90): Window borders now snap to screen edges (100% magnetic snap) when resized. Vector Icon Compression: Compressed static vector icon coordinates to 16-bit integers, saving 54 KB. Code Devirtualization: Replaced std::function callbacks with C-style function pointers and devirtualized core controllers to reduce overhead. LTO Debug Fix: Removed obsolete compiler flags (/MERGE:.rdata=.text) from Link-Time Optimization (LTO) builds to fix minidump crash debugging. Decoding & Memory Fixes Hybrid Allocation: Implemented a hybrid memory allocator to balance preloading and tile rendering. Access Violations: Fixed crashes when rapidly switching images. HDR in Archives: Resolved an issue where HDR images decoded from ZIP/RAR archives lost their peak luminance metadata or failed to render in float format. • There was a Spider-Man game back in the day that had these as well. When other people played, they got gamer ads. When I played, I got ads for Visual Studio on the billboards in the city.
