Chanser
My speakers won't work anymore today as I normally switch the master switch on or off as I get humming noise from the Subwoofer, no Standby light or anything. I checked the main fuse and theirs no continuity just stays at 1 on my multimeter. Man this fuse only lasted me for 2 months from new . What size, type and power of fuse am I meant to get? Gotchaforce
logitech needs to put a disclaimer, the master switch is NOT meant to be turned on and off almost everytime you turn off the speakers for a good amount of time. Everytime you turn off your PC do you turn off your power switch as well? it works the same way. freestyle_web
I thought that this model had inputs so you could plugin stuff like a dvd player , TV or console. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585717996 Share on other sites

freestyle_web
I originally thought that the control center had lots of inputs on the back so I could hook up my dvd player to it for sound. Guess they don't have any inputs ;( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585718478 Share on other sites

But your dvd should be connected by coax or optical if you want the control centre to decode the signal Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585718509 Share on other sites

Consoles also have those connections, though you may need to buy an accessory or something. funkychicken9000
Just out of interest, what connections do people use with their speakers? I've currently only got optical plugged in, but I'm wondering if the 6ch direct sounds better for music and games etc. Anyone? Not a 'normal' size fuse like the ones in Plugs (UK) I think it says 270V. Logitech need to sort this. I will unplug mine in future, im not touching that Master Switch :| Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585727137 Share on other sites
Liquid
Just out of interest, what connections do people use with their speakers? I've currently only got optical plugged in, but I'm wondering if the 6ch direct sounds better for music and games etc. Anyone? 585727127 6-Channel direct is better for games, but Digital (Coax, optical) is better for everything else. Reason for 6-Ch Direct being better for games is because games do not support Dolby digital or dts. Unreal 2K4 does, but its a different type. So use 6-Channel direct for games, and Digital for DVD's, Music, and everything else :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585727138 Share on other sites
plaskos
To be honest I use 6 channel direct for everything except for dvd movies. I prefer my custom equalizer settings with the creative software compared to the dolby pro logic II emulated surround sound. I like it when its the same signal played over every speaker with my mp3's. Guess they don't have any inputs ;( 585718478 What are you talking about? It DOES have lots of inputs. In addition to the analog connections (which can be used as a single 6.1 connection or three independent stereo connections), there is a coax digital and an optical digital connection. Both of those digital connections are on almost every DVD player made. ascullycom
Liquid or anyone else with these speakers, can you hear a buzz/hum coming from your subwoofer if you put your ear near it? I just bought a set and have them hooked up in my home theatre room, there is a distinct hum coming from the subwoofer even without it being hooked up to any source. thenaes
I'm really thinking about getting a set of these for my graduation present. Only thing is, starting next fall I will be living in a dorm and I'm not sure if these will be worth it since I can't really set them up in such a way to get the full effect. Right now I have Klipsch Promedia 2.1's... Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/229771-review-logitech-z-5500/page/25/#findComment-585787422 Share on other sites

It sounds like it has dirty power. Try plugging it into a different power strip. Otherwise, you may have a defective set. plaskos
I never heard a buzzing hum coming from my subwoofer and thats the first thing I looked for when I got these. I was on a cheap power bar at first but now im on a 1000joule surge protector and theres no real difference. I also live in a college dorm room and Ive had the Z-5300's, Z-2300's, and now the Z-5500's, still a blast :) Definetly recommended to anyone that can afford.
