[Review] Logitech z-5500

Recommended Posts

I don't think any pre-speaker wire systems would exsist now, it should be safe to order.

I have my speakers hooked into my xbox via an optical cable, everything is fine and I couldn't be happier, but i've tried a few dvds with DTS and when it's playing it goes silent...what is causing this, optical should allow this, the pictures of the control pod all have 'optical DTS', do I need a coax cable?? Very confusing, why isn't it decoding DTS?

I have the z5500 logitech sound system, and it is great.

The sub is awesome, rattles the doors, walls, windows and my mothers head...

But yeah, great sound system.

I strongly recommend this sound system, But make sure your grand parents ( or old parents ) don't pick up the box when it comes. It is DAMN heavy.

Thanks.

With a built in encoder from these speakers, this should mean I can hookup a normal plain-jane TV via RCA to my DVD player that has optical outputs that should give me true surround sound from my dvd movies?

as long as the dvd player passes through an un-decoded (play with the options) signal to the control pod via an optical cable, then yeah. If the control pod receives an already decoded signal it will display a "DD PL2 Movie", if you do it correctly it'll show a "DD Digital" or "DTS Digital" display.

Good to know, thanks (Y)

Anybody know how to hook up two extra speakers for this system to get 7.1?

  If you actually want 7.1, go buy a real 7.1 system. You can't make a 4.1 system by hooking up two extra speakers to a 2.1 system--you then get 2x2.1, because two of the speakers are always outputting the same thing. The same thing applies with your suggestion. In a real n.1 setup, each speaker (channel) can output individually, and you wind up with n distinct channels. So if you can't do that, why are you going to add more speakers? It's just stupid. To make it louder? Trust me, the Z-5500 are REALLY DAMN LOUD, you're not going to notice anything by splicing in two more speakers.

well it would be a little bit of a hassle adjusting volumes but you can do it. i managed to do it with my old 5.1 system and a 2.1 system. if you've got an audigy 2 zs you have to get the special cable from creative which is used for their 7.1 systems cause its 4 stereo outputs from 3 output cables. the green (front right and left), orange (center and sub), and black (rear left and right) go to your 5.1 system while the grey (side left and right) goes to your 2.1 system.

hmm i'm really tempted to get myself a set of these even though i would be going from 7.1 to 5.1 but its a crappy creative t7700.

can someone who owns a set help me check if there's a 115v/230v switch? cause i live where there's 230v in the mains.

if not would it be possible if i use some kind of step down transformer?

and 1 last thing. just how heavy is that monster? i want to get it shipped here by fedex or something but i don't want to trouble the people i know in the US.

Anyone in the UK got the separate speaker wire version yet?  If so, from where?  I will certainly hold off buying these until this is commonly available.

I phoned a couple of suppliers to ask but they don't appear keen to check the contents of the boxes!?

Thanks

I got a set from eBuyer about 1-2 months ago, wired.

I got them from Dell in February for $245 shipped.

.. great

they were $239.99 earlier this month, anyways, this is all moot.

I want to know if oddcrap is lying or not, i suspect hes lying because nowhere on dell are they $250 (or $240, like he said in his PM back to me, which still didnt contain a link).

Well I guess you did not look that good, within 15 seconds I found them for 244 from Pricewatch. From a company called ICT inc.

honestly, i dont trust pricewatch, they list a bunch of hole in the wall retailers. Plus, its not that big of a deal, i had a $100 concession coupon, so they came out to be $215 after tax, i just wanted to know if i could get an extra $50 by asking dell to make up for the price difference (hopefully they wouldnt relaly care about the concession coupon)

ANYWAYS, these speakers are AWESOME!! they look better, the sub is HUGE, the speaker clips are better, they mount better, and the stupid control pod finally increases the volume CORRECTLY! man this knob is awesome on this thing..

    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
    • Well when your game flops, you should expect this. If I do bad at work, I would expect a layoff. Less than 1600 people played it on steam. https://steamdb.info/app/1934570/charts/
