Get the hint, end of story!

Thanks for your valuable contribution to the discussion. You are one of the many giving Firefox fans a good name on the Internet.

Oh, and regarding restarting and so on, Opera can apply menu and toolbar setups without restarting as well. It can do most things without restarting, even adding external programs like the Proxomitron for web filtering.

Not sure if it is an extension or what causing this.. but over 15 tabs or so and Firefox commonly hangs (stops responding, not crash, I have to kill it with taskman) for me if many of the tabs have images in them. (atleast, only thing I can correspond from the many times it has happened). Opera didnt do this for me ever.. I am debating going back to usign opera as my primary browser (both are isntalled, and I even still use IE every so often).

Speaking of extensions.. I am not impressed with what is available for firefox.. Mostly cute toys to control somethign else or show me weather or something.. I can do all that in trillian.. Only usefull one for Firefox I use regularly is adblock.. Which is so so. A good local (or actual server) proxy server can do the same (ahh, the days of proxomitron) with any browser. And opera can be configured (without proxy even) to do similar content filtering as adblock last I checked. Worse yet, large adblock list (not even reallllllly large) can really slow it down. And too this day, it doesnt have an exception list of any sort. Closest thing is a crafty filter/rule that acts as an exception (seen it in ablock forum).

Anyway, I am still stuck using 3 browsers.. And yeah, one of them is IE. Neither Opera or Firefox can totally replace the monopoly that is IE. Still too many sites that dont quite work perfectly with anything but IE. For home users you can maybe say, I just wont visit those sites.. Well, may not be an option to a business/corp.

Wow.. you couldn't have said it better, it's as if you spoke my mind.

I'm using Firefox on Linux Ubuntu, and more than 5 tabs greatly slows down the browser, and I can't simply stand it.

Really, Firefox users should try some other tabbed browsers so that they realize how bad Firefox handles them.

I'd rather tweak some configurations with Opera than downloading ten or twenty extensions on Firefox and configure them one by one.

Firefox with no extension is just not usable for me, no features at all at very slow speed.

Does Opera have adblock and a web developer's extension?? and an extension for leechget?? If it does, I might switch. :D

You can block ads in Opera by using your hosts file, URL filtering (don't have an URL handy at the moment, sorry) or a proxy like the Proxomitron.

Web dev toolbar: http://nontroppo.org/wiki/WebDevToolbar

LeechGet can probably be integrated in Opera's menus if you want to.

I like firefox and opera , the only thing is with opera 8 and opera 7 when i go into my junk folder as u can see , it wont let me delete or empty the folder , the little box just sits there and i keep pressing OK ... anyone know why or happens to anyone else?

http://snbx.net/php/viewtopic.php?p=4 No acutal GUI like Adblock but works just if not even better with those filters. You can also use Proxomitron.

Dunno what exactly you want with the web dev extension, but there's lots of toolbar menus and setups for such thing for Opera. http://nontroppo.org/wiki/WebDevToolbar

Dunno about that prog though, you will probably be able through a shortcut like right click > save file with leechget. Ask the Opera forums.

It happens because Hotmail discriminates against Opera. While Firefox, IE and others get the JS file necessary for this to work, it is imply omitted for Opera users. They are specifically targeting Opera and not including an important JavaScript file which is needed for this thing to work.

I tried Opera just then, wasn't really for me, felt sort of cluttered after having Firefox, just my opinion.

If you had bothered to at least read some posts before posting, you would have seen that you should try Opera 8. It's less cluttered than Firefox by default.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, why hotmail discriminates against opera and not ff is beyond me not that i'm against FF. if discriminate against 1 why not the other?

Try using Proxomitron with a user agent header filter and ID as IE6, if that is true what he says about hotmail then it should work like this because it also worked back then when MSN sent Opera users totally crapped up homepage. Using the filter the page displayed just fine. I wanted to check myself but I forgot how ****ing retarded the MSN register process is and not willing to go through it.

Thanks alot dude :) I'll give it a shot

I find this extremely hard to believe. I'be run Opera and Firefox on a 400 MHz PC with 64 MB RAM, and Firefox was nearly unusable, while Opera ran fine.

It is a well known fact that XUL makes Firefox unsuitable for lower-end systems.

It most certainly shows nothing of the sorts. Just because Opera uses more RAM on your system doesn't mean that Firefox "ports better". This has got nothing to do with the portability of either program.

How about trying Opera 8 before commenting?

So, you haven't actually tried Opera? The search field in Opera's address bar is a multi-engine search. Click the dropdown arrow and see for yourself.

All I have to do with Opera is to install and surf. Ever tried reading Slashdot in Firefox?

"Server was unavailable"? Sounds rather vague to me. Sure you aren't making this up?

The same goes for any browser, including IE. If you set the settings too strictly, sites will fail to work. This is not an Opera issue.

I'm not even gonna bother to continue this debate cuz its going nowhere. I did try the god damn Opera 7.54 AND beta 8, alright? so how about you read my post fully before you quote what you want and give a smart ass comment.

yawn

Is this thread still going, listen girls/guys (yes girls is there for a reason this is getting down to handbags now) none of you can agree on anything, if u wanna pay for opera so u don't have inbuilt ads fine, if u like all the bits and bobs that most never uses fine, just shush, same for people who like firefox inital simplicity the minimalist browser choice and add the features u need later then fine, shush too. None of you will win this, lets just see how the browser rankings pan out, i trust all u opera users have their browsers displaying that fact they use opera and not spoofing as IE?

Lets put it this way u like it cause you like it ;) same with the people who love IE, let them have their puters invaded, credit card details stolen who cares its the risk everyone takes.

(dons flame proof jacket, just in case)

I just showed the entire forum how you spoke without checking your facts... I can understand why you get all defensive about it, too :)

Nice try. But even with all these useful features built in, Opera is still smaller and faster than Firefox.

585354803

I did try 8. That ad at the top, that makes it feel cluttered :) That's my opinion, take it or leave it.

Just found an interesting tidbit.

Google sites (search, news, etc) send Mozilla and IE pages compressed via gzip, but send Opera the pages uncompressed even though it can handle them compressed just fine.  However, identifying as IE or Mozilla tricks it enough.

Some pages were 70k uncompressed and 15k compressed.  That's a noticable difference sometimes.

I wonder how many other sites do this kind of thing?

585351909

That is just laziness, its simply a matter of checking one of the headers to see if the browser accepts gzip encoding.

What do you think guys, i need prefromance comments, i know that opera costs money and ff is free but i need some comments on the prefromance ( ex: mem usage, speed ) ... many thanks in advance :)

Hmmm I just uninstall the opera I had in my com and tried Firefox. basically I think Firefox is more like IE. Opens up faster but Opera is just as good. Just that I not used to the controls after using IE for so long.

One thing my friend mention about opera is that it will store the pages u browse on the webby and when yr next log in .. the page is still there.

But I still not comfy with that.. Now using firefox and replying :)

Cheers

    • First time clicking on a Sayan Sen article after he started making clickbait, vague headlines recently. Didn't read, just came here to say the headline doesn't look like very cheap, vague clickbait this time. Are you okay?
    • Good review, and yeah the benchmark breakdown is pretty clear but also a little messy in a good way. It’s kinda interesting to see where the RX 9070 GRE slides in between the 7800 XT and the 9070 XT , especially when it comes to AI tasks and Blender style workloads. The side by side with Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 4070 makes it feel obvious just how competitive the mid range GPU scene has gotten lately, and that’s great for creators and gamers too since you can pick based on your priorities rather than only chasing one single thing.
    • That's it. I finally uninstalled Firefox because they often keep pushing buggy updates, only to test them later and make users suffer. No longer is it my alternative browser to Edge. What a waste of energy. Firefox is bad for the environment, just like Chrome (wasting RAM/energy).

Users report that this month's security updates for Windows 11 cause all sorts of issues, including BitLocker bugs, OneDrive issues, black screens of death, and third-party integration in Office apps. Microsoft has not confirmed those yet, but it acknowledged other issues with its operating system. What Microsoft has confirmed is a bug where Recycle Bin delete prompts display internal file names instead of actual ones, and a year-old Windows JScript compatibility bug caused by security-focused engine changes.
