[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Its great, the way they tell the story, the graphics, the engine, the surprises, its amazing, my favorite part so far is feeding the barnacles with explosives, HHAHAH

Cant wait till i get back from school to play more!!!!

Did i mention the game is awesome????

I'd say so dude...

Anyway, I'm stuck again. I accidently shot threw a window with a grenade or something (out of the gun...) and as i jumped through the window, the valve seemed to be broken. Now I have idea where to go!

I guessed that one - the answer is right behind you. ;)

I'm stuck having killed the combine helicopter in the airboat section we saw at E3. I can see the controls I need to push to let me make the jump, but dammit I can't see a way up there. Has anyone worked it out yet?

I need a little help guys!

I am on a University network where they block most of the ports. Steam can't connect to its servers, because the port is blocked.

Does this mean if I buy the game today I won't be able to play it?

Your gonna need to talk to your schools net admin and see what can be done. If you cant get it, then bitch to valve or who ever about not being able to validate without the internet.

I think they've done a great job with the physics engine, although glitchy and a bit naff sometimes, the overall feel of it is great.

Anyone hit any bugs?

I've managed to pick up a cement block, and somehow pass it through a wire fence whilst still holding it, and still be able to move it around... now thats MAGIC!!

 So, I installed Steam last night in readyness for my HL2 DVD arriving the morning :)

So... I started the install and the bloody installer will NOT let me install the game to my drive of choice... It seems you MUST install games into your steam folder and nowhere else, which is a bitch as the drive I installed Steam on doesn't have enough space!! I keep all my games on various drives, depending on which one has space at the time....

Had to remove Steam & reinstall it, but this drive only has enough space for HL2... I'm stuffed if I want any other games from Steam...

Those guys at valve need to look in to this... Restricting the install location is bloody STUPID!!!

I have the same problem but are using hopster (http-tunnel) and sockscap to get around it.

Sorry mate, right behind me....there's nothing there?

I just need to know, was that valved borked like that...when you first got to it? Because I shot through the window (i think i hit the valve also...) and blew it up. now it doesn't work, and i've got nowhere to go.

EDIT: Nevermind, worked it out...i already blew up the barrels. I just didn't know I had to go back into my little air-boat :p

Hmm, my Steam folder is on my G drive along with HL2. I don't recall having any problems getting it to install to a different drive ... Maybe getting the game via Steam is a better option than retail after all.

    • Bluesky COO warns social media regulations could destroy competition from small startups by Paul Hill Fears that increasing government control of social media risks regulatory capture by the biggest social media firms were raised again recently. Bluesky’s chief operating officer said in an interview that social media bans for children and tighter regulations for social media firms risk creating a world where there are only a few social media platforms run by companies with the deepest pockets. Regulations on social media firms have been very lax since they appeared for mainstream users in the 2000’s. This gave Meta, Snapchat, and Google time to build up their user bases and get entrenched, with Meta being the most successful. Now that Meta has succeeded, it has been attempting regulatory capture. By pushing for more regulations of social media, Meta hopes to make it more difficult for rivals to challenge it. For its part, it doesn’t need to worry about the cost of regulation because it has a lot of money to spend, whereas startups do not. Speaking to CNBC, Rose Wang, Bluesky’s chief operating officer, said: “I support the protection and the safety of youth, the question that we have then is at what cost, because essentially what I’m scared of is in the long term, we’re headed to a world where there’s about three to five platforms, and extreme heavy regulation of those platforms, and basically the whole compliance teams of these platforms are 10 times the size of our entire team. So, basically, we’re living in a world where it’s almost impossible for smaller entrants to come in and build healthier spaces. These platforms have led to a place where the bottom line is the thing that drives what they do... so I understand why governments have to step in and regulate, because the platforms have done nothing right.” She said that while she is not against regulation, there needs to be more channels between the small to mid-sized players and regulators to help protect them. She says that big tech players, on the other hand, “who we know are circumventing regulation,” need to be regulated. Essentially, the Bluesky position is one of nuance, rather than absolutes. While Bluesky’s proposal may preserve competition in the social media space, it still doesn’t address the massive privacy implications these age verification measures introduce, such as handing over sensitive identity documents to access age-gated content.
