[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

Admittedly a newbie question as I noticed HL2 was ready to go this morning, fired it up for about 2 minutes, then had to head in to work.....

I noticed that there is no multiplayer "button" just new game.

Am I to believe that CS:Source is basically the multiplayer HL2? Are we not going to get multiplayer Gordon???!!!!

If CS: Source is the answer, am I the only one who thinks the graphics of CS: Source are great, but the netcode blows major chunks???

I thought Valve was going to stop all the cheating with HL2 multiplayer. CS:Source is already full of wallhack, aimbot, etc.....

Also, if there is supposed to be HL2 multiplayer besides CS:Source does it use the same crappy netcode?

After two weeks of CS:Source, I am already very tired of the crappy multiplayer experience. Again, the graphics are great, but the lag, shooting through walls, HAX, etc. just sucks. Call of Duty, UT2K4, etc. the list goes on....there are so many games with much better multiplay code. I had high hopes for HL2 multiplayer. Please tell me I'm missing something here.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

uh...congratulations?

you must also eat really fast at dinner and jump up yelling "done!" with food still in your mouth.

seriously.  did you even 'savor' the game?  take in the story?  check out anything other than the shortest line from start to finish?  and what's with the screenshot of the explosion...that might be considered spoilers for some, and you didn't tag it accordingly.

yeah for real , it's been what 9 hours max , since the game was released.

Yeah, Thanks Radish.

I really have a hard time congratulating people that beat games this fast.

If you really beat it then I almost pity you. It's unfortunate that you didn't even savor the game where some people play one hour a day and think about possible outcomes, possible conclusions to cutscenes... like watching some episodal drama on tv.

Now that HL2 is finally out, it's time for the obligatory "Where is Team Fortress 2?" question. :p

HL2 should keep most of us busy for a while, but I would like to see a non CSS mulitplayer game soon.

I jsut called up ATI and they're saying that it'll take 4-6weeks (which i knew), upon

going on their website, it says it'll take 8-10weeks!! plus additional shipping and handling charges! wtf? all that after paying $400 for my vid card???

anyways, i'm just downloading the game via steam. the thing is, i registered the cdkey, but then it said, network is busy or something like that (transaction not completed). does that mean it has registered? (cuz, i'm downloading HL2 (it says its updating HL2, 551mins left  ) as we speak).

anyways, i'm a little lost so as to if steam as acutally registered my key or not. or did it get lost in the transaction???

Back to a question that's been asked a few times but never adequately answered - I bought the bronze package a while back as I was a bit skint and didn't think HL:Source would actually come out at the same time as HL?. Do we know if it'll be available to purchase separately ie. as a bolt-on to your existing sub? I assume they'd charge ?20 for it:p:p

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
    • Everything they say you can already do yourself on the registry by changing some things.
    • Artist's renderings are so much nicer to view than the real thing, don't you think?
